It all depends on where you keep the caravan as well as what make it is and what security you have. What was the quote from this Club? Was that competitive?

I had a quote from a  broker the other day for my 17 year old motorhome.  One quote was nearly £300 and when I told them that last year I only paid around £155 they came back with one for £165.  They usually try and sell a more expensive quote as it is more money for them, but I don't want a huge amount of extra cover for many things that I will not require, but obviously some people do want that type of better cover so may prefer to pay a lot more.  As you point out, it does pay to shop around but I think that biggest problem is that you don't know how good your insurer is until you make a claim.

I have just renewed my caravan insurance with the club for £350.59. It has went up £14 from last year. Not too bad I think. I tried Go Compare etc and could save up to £50 but the cover is not as good. I have new for old, European Travel up to 182 days (I wished). The value of the van when new in 2016 was £26000. I keep the van in a club storage site.

In the past I have been with Saga and C&MC, but Lifesure for last 8 years. This year is the first I have seen a potential jump in premium, so I shopped about.

Quotes are based on £25K [van, mover, awning etc] new for old, £500 contents, a low x/s of £100. Hitch lock and wheel clamp, 180 days European cover, no previous claims, legal expenses, stored at home, ins tax etc etc.

    Lifesure - 2020-21 = £255
    Lifesure - 2021-22 = £351
    C&MC - 2021-22 = £431
    SAGA - 2021-22 = £351
    Caravanguard - 2021-22 = £327
    Adrian Flux - 2021-22 = £434
    Towergate - 2021-22 = £462

Cover4Caravans 2021-22 at £268 finally got my business

We are having similar issues with CAMC insurance for our car.   We have been with them for the past 5/6 years and the quotes have always been competitive, in fact last year it was less than the previous year.  This year it has gone up massively, nearly 25%, and they seem unwilling and unhelpful in trying to reduce that price, apparently we have to send a email to Devitt with photos of other quotes etc, etc, before they will consider a reduction.  Why all this palaver?  We will just go elsewhere!

The usual big four comparison sites gave me wildly differing car insurance prices last week for wildly differing quality of policies.

In the end the best deal was when one of those comparison sites offered me a car insurance policy (5* Defaqto grade) with John Lewis finance of all people - at £121 less than a renewal with an existing company. Shop around.

Hi everyone, we've just re-joined the club after purchasing a 2099 Abbey Spectrum 540 today, I'm trying to get cover with the caravan club but i'm struggling to find a value for a new for old replacement, does it mean the price of my caravan when it was new or the price of a current new model? TIA

New for old is based on the cost of a current new model. That value may be double what you have just paid for a second hand van, so the insurance premium will be double the price of insuring your van for its present value.

I think you have a typo in your post NJ. Do you mean a 2009 model? laughing

Assuming so then it's going to be difficult to get new for old cover on a van of this age, particularly as they are no longer manufactured. Anybody getting new for old after a certain age of unit has to produce evidence of annual servicing etc. Unlikely in your case. I've just renewed my caravan policy today on a 5 year old caravan with full service history and I used the value of the same model at todays prices to replace it plus a couple of thousand pounds extra for bits and pieces. Saga insisted on it having a full service history.

I would suggest you stick to second hand value, such as the one you paid for it plus anything that you put into it that is purely caravanning items, such as aqua roll, awning etc.
