Dealers' stock
Called in to a Marquis dealership today on the way back home from getting the car serviced. What a shock, I thought they were closing the branch but no. Normally they would have at least 40-60 motorhomes today 2 ex demo/used and 2 new that's it everything else sold out. Apparently mostly new owners cash purchase so no part exchanges in for sale. I was told all branches are in a similar state including caravans. Plus there's a forecast shortage of sevel chassis for next year's production. Any observations from other dealers?

Hmm, while there is undoubtedly a shortage of all LVs on forecourts at present, I remember this company being in a similar situation once before. It was followed by a big change within the company.

A few weeks ago we were travelling from Beechwood Grange to Cayton village site Mon the road we passed a motor caravan dealership? and was surprised to see their forecourt looked well stocked with vehicles and they were it seemed, as we passed new

Marquis are owned by Autosleepers and AS are only getting half of the motorhome cabs/chassis (Peugeot/Mercedes) that they wanted for the 2022 production run. We have traded in our motorhome and preordered a new model for delivery next year and our traded in model would have sold first week except that Marquis couldn’t get the parts to fix it before selling.

I noticed on the Bailey website the other day that for 2022 they are only running two ranges, one based on a Peugeot and the other on the Ford base vehicles. Of course I don't know whether that is due to shortage of Peugeot base cabs or lack of production capacity? The Ford based range (with automatic gearbox) has clearly been successful so perhaps in time they will move towards the Ford base as AT seem to be doing?

I took mine to Marquis, Northants for hab check + Fiat service last week of Sept & this was situ there..... they said they were down to 3 vans in the summer.....
Whilst it will keep Used prices high for now, they'll plummet once stock starts flooding back!

I commented before, the docks at Bristol are virtually empty, very few cars, vans and flat bed trucks. So no surprise to see shortages on van conversion production lines.
I've also read that some secondhand cars are selling for higher prices than the purchase prices from a year ago.
Probably a good time to sell?!🚐

We drove past Lady Bailey Caravans at Winterborne this afternoon and they had stacks of vans/MHs on their forecourt, and OH noticed that they were advertising for staff too.

A trade source advised me very recently that SEVEL, the collaborative factory which builds Fiat Ducato and Peugeot/Citroen base vehicles in Southern Italy is not in production meantime due to the worldwide lack of semiconductors.

I work in automotive manufacturing and can confirm that a shortage of semi-conductors is severely restricting the manufacture of all types of vehicles. Worth remembering that your LV on board systems (fridge, heating etc) also use semi-conductors therefore these components are likely to be in short supply as well. All adds up to a perfect storm for the LV dealers....

I have heard this too. A friend went to a local dealership who had a Fiat 500 for sale. Cash purchase. He was asked if the car he arrived in was his trade in. He said 'no' he just wanted to buy the Fiat. The dealership refused and said they would only sell if he had a part exchange to keep their stock levels up..
He was also told that if he wanted a new one the lead time was a full year because of the shortage of chips.
