Mikey is quite right JVB and I've used enough sites over the years(well over 70) to know.
I've used 3 CLs this year where a club site would have had twice as many pitches to that allocated.
Don't misunderstand I'll use club sites when I need to, and happy to do so, but your blinkered approach permeates every answer.

Well according to you that is, I'm not sure how you know this and can speak for many users or indeed how you know you can't see these things as you haven't used club sites for some considerable time, if ever?
many people use club sites to enjoy better-facilities and better-security, neither of which you will see on a CL
You get the point me writing that doesn't make it any more true than your statement?

Again AG how do you know this, if you have never set foot on a club site for many a year?

MikeyA posted: Many people use CLs to enjoy lots of space and individuality, neither of which will you see on a Club site.
To MikeyA; exactly what I was going to post. To JVB: how many club sites does one have to use before being able to "make that sort of comment"?
Well, I'm going to comment, having used 40+ club sites in our time, which surely is a fair number of them, none of them have the space and individuality of CLs. For example, the one at Wharfedale, Grassington, is in a lovely area, no disputing that; however, as a site, it's no more than a glorified carpark, with pitches in regimented rows. We recently stayed at Meathop, not as regimented as Wharfedale, but still hasn't the space a CL has.
No doubt there will be some sites which have a more creative design than Wharfedale, and I don't claim to have stayed at every CAMC site (life's too short!) but CLs for us are the best option overall.

I have also used quite a few Cls over the years and I agree some are quite nice ,as our quite a few Club sites so as for Bliinkered Veiw ? that is the very type of post I come to expect from some who seem not to have used sites as often as we have

But one person's space and individuality are another's...
It's all down to personal taste and viewpoint, some like club sites and some like CLs and some like both.
In my view one is not better in any way than another, choose whatever is the best option for yourself.
Btw the first picture is not my personal idea of a car park and has plenty of space and individuality, while the second may have space but has all the individuality of a field.
Yes I know just two examples and others could post opposing photos and views but it is all down to personal preference and the field may really appeal to some, if so great, everyone is happy, your choice, but perhaps people shouldn't post one is better than another? Just choose what is right for you.

Well said corners speaking with the voice of many of the membership,
We have used quite a few CLs over the years but none we would use again ,which is very different to this clubs sites some we use regularly m quite a few would be our first choice in any area,

Once again you resort to attacking the poster rather than the message.
So is what you are saying is that my experience of club sites doesn't give me a legitimate balanced view of how pitch spaces are compared to CLs? What utter cobblers. Just because I haven't used as many as you doesn't lessen my experience of them or reduce my ability to offer a balanced view of them.
I have said that I am happy to use club sites shen necessary. AD summed it fine up thread with his description of them (just to dispel another oft used phrase of yours about not reading all of the posts).
But Mikey does have a point. CL users have other reasons for using them and not just price. Location is often a factor.

Spot on, WN. We have used plenty of club sites over the years to know what they are like, and much prefer the individuality and space, among other things, that CLs offer compared to club sites.
JVB, there is no one on here that has a more blinkered and confrontational attitude than you have, IMO.

The difference the VAT rebate to staying on a Site made all the difference for us in Cornwall this year. It was actually cheaper for us to use Marazion Site than to go to a CL. Same with Exeter Racecourse. So we did understand and take into account what the actual cost of our stay would be. Both are Sites we know well, and like, both are at the cheap end of what the Club offers. We like to tour for around £14-£18 per night average. We will pay a good bit more if it suits, but our needs are basic, a Site is usually just somewhere to sleep.
Plenty of space is in our top three preferences. 😁

Well, if you want to count, how many different Club sites have you stayed on, you can count in affiliated sites too.
Looking through my records, we have been on 87 Club or affiliated sites, most still exist, but some are long gone. Some we have used more than once.
Best play area we have seen on a Club site was at Barnard Castle.
The reason I have referred to sites in Scotland is that that is where we live, more precisely, just outside Glasgow. When you have toddlers, or invite someone with toddlers to join you on a site, you/they do not really want to be travelling more than a couple of hours max to your destination, but you also do not want to be just down the road at Strathclyde Park, especially with it being next to a busy and noisy motorway.
There are not many Club sites that fit the bill, within a couple of hours travel from our place when towing.....Ayr.......Edinburgh....plus affiliated ones ........The Woods.....The Ranch. I believe The Ranch has a good play area, Ayr is hopeless as far as play areas go.
Overall, Club offerings for members in Scotland are not great, if we wanted a weekend away on a Club site, our choice would be very limited. There are large areas of the country with no Club sites at all.

you can count in affiliated sites too.
err no, it's my count so my rules
AS are not club sites in any shape or form at all. They are completely independent of the club, have their own set of rules, bookings and procedures. Some even charge deposits and not subject to the cancellations rules of the club! They just get (for a fee I imagine) the use of the club's name but that is it. It has been discussed before and those that 'expressed a view' all said they are not club sites with no one saying differently. I'm sure they are good sites but not a club site.
Indeed you appear to be short changed club site wise in your neck of the woods. I assume it is only the CL network that keeps you a member?

Then that field should do you just fine, it's never had more than three vans on it even in high summer, it's within walking distance of Durham too
Each to their own TDA, we book club sites and really cost hasn't come into it - yet!

you should be in politics then
Post edit - It would appear that many is greater than most?
many means "a significantly large number," whereas most denotes a group large enough to represent the default case — which will most often but not invariably be more than half
I said most sites are like that, you said many sites are like that. So thanks for proving my point!
Like I said if you're debating many v most you should be in politics!

I was going to ask where it was😂 Honestly, we like places like that so long they are quiet and safe. Useful that one, we are up there quite a bit. OH has used a £5 a night field near Consett. He takes me to posh places though......£8 a night, not far from Corbridge😁

The C&Cc took 9 sites off their list, 2 are due to re-open next month. CAMC have just closed 3 sites, all due to labour shortages.
It's quite disconcerting to be on the receiving end of a cancelled booking especially if like us you were hoping to go to a certain area for a particular reason. There is a likelihood that local CLs might save the day in these circumstances!

You mean I have to count again?!
We do not often use affiliated sites these days, and in the past 23 years I can think of only 2 in Scotland, one on the IOW, one in Northern Ireland, 2 in Wales and 3 in England, so that leaves 78 proper Club sites.
We do use CLs more often these days, but you would not remain a member purely to use CLs in Scotland, they are also in short supply! Especially if you want EHU. Other parts of UK are better served.
To improve our choice up here we are also CCC members, on our recent trip up north we used 1 Club site, 1 CL, and 3 CCC sites.
We are also looking around more these days at non-club sites, having searched out a few around here with toddler friendly facilities for DD, and used some of the small sites in other parts of UK, having found them from the thread on here.

No you don't have to
I've just been looking at some AS in Scotland and there are seven and best kept away from booking wise in my view! Some don't just charge deposits but non refundable deposits even if you cancel well in advance
Yes with family you have to choose what is best for them.

Not what my dictionary says!
"many" is defined as a large number, whereas "most" is defined as the majority.
I seem to remember, when learning English at school about 65-70 years back that it went ........ many.......more.....most.
To me that means that most in any one group of items, such as Club sites, must be more than many.
However, time for bed, I have to drive to North Berwick tomorrow, leaving here at 8am, to pick up our caravan.
PS........waiting to hear what your count of Club sites is. Or did I miss that somewhere?
