I don’t doubt the veracity of JwJ's comment, GDJ, as I’ve heard similar accounts of lack of support and back up from HQ from various wardens over the years.
One has to wonder if this has any bearing on the current staff shortage situation🤔.

Sainsworth, Travel Lodge hotel at Gatwick is quoting £24 per night per double room in late December (breakfast xtra) . Is that an alternative to your commercial campsite for your visit to Crawley?

Not so.
When we are just the 2 of us, we keep costs down, use CLs or CCC sites, but if we invite DD along we "push the boat out" and generally try to use a site that suits her . However, within the distance she wants to travel with 2 little ones, the Club offerings are very poor up here.
No decent play areas, tired facility blocks, few or no serviced pitches.
If they invest in their own van, I cannot see them deciding to use Club sites as they just do not generally provide what families with toddlers need.

Surely this is what most families do when on holiday? Visit parkland, a swimming pool, a play park, the beach, the zoo, go cycling, go walking, go pony trekking, Go Ape etc.......
It probably is just what they do, but there are some who post on here that apparently want all that, and more, provided - possibly for free - on the Caravan Club campsite so that they do not have to go out and look for it, without any respect for those who do not want these things. The two Clubs have a USP for the format that they follow which is different from the many commercial organisations that do provide for all the above activites to make their sites into destinations.

I would agree that for us, and for DD, the site is not a destination, she spent 10 years touring with us so knows not to expect that, but is it too much to ask that sites have some decent play equipment for children?
You cannot take toddlers off site all day and expect them to be happy. Their attention span is limited, they need variety, and somewhere to play.
Our Callum is 3 1/2, and very grown up for his age, he loves nothing more than looking at my tools, trying to use them, following me around fetching water, emptying waste.......he is not your typical 3 1/2 year old.
But when he is away with his parents, like all 3 year olds, he needs somewhere safe and fun to play, supervised by one parent, while the other makes dinner, or lunch, or whatever.
Most Club sites do not provide that.

Thanks Peedee. The search for sites app is good as well, realistic reviews. We are wary of car parks overnight, too open to local idiots and lowlifes, but going to use a few Britstops I think, and some small Sites.

Exactly, you can only comment on what you see in your part of the world, but don't apply that all club sites and say I'm wrong? The ones I've seen are like I described.
Yes why should anyone use club sites if they do not offer what they want in your area.

Funnily enough, one of the best bits of family fun that I ever saw was on Nunnykirk. The Site is all grass, and seldom full, but pitches are huge and children have lots of space to play. We were pitched up opposite a caravanning family who had created a wonderful blow up fun park for their children......paddling pool, slide, water jets, slalom course and other things. All placed on grass next to van, one parent watching toddlers, other keeping an eye on a barbecue, getting outdoor eating area sorted. They were having an absolute ball, keeping cool on a hot day, nice play surface. All the stuff came out of the boot of the car.

Again you're basing this on what you have seen, many club sites do offer this. I can think of many sites where this happens, large playing fields, games rooms, playgrounds. You just have to go to sites suitable for families? I've just search for families sites and the first five or so all appear to have playgrounds. Of course they will cost more.
But having said that club sites are not resorts to stay on all day. We had four kids and the fun part happened mainly outside the site.
so your Most Club sites do not provide that is incorrect? Apart from playgrounds perhaps some simple one to one play is better?

Yet when you had the choice of various sites for your travels you chose all club sites, and in fact you chose one of the most expensive sites on the network?
You appear to be setting yourself up as the arbiter of what is a premium price and what isn't? The same for what a basic offering (which as said you were happy to pay many times).

There are a couple of upsides to what has been posted
1. Sites have been busier so far with staycations ,and the now relaxation of travel restrictions, some that still have not realised what a beautiful country they live in May now go over the channel and free up pitches
2 Those who complain about rip of Britain who have stayed a on sites and taken advantage of the reduced VAT rates ,May next year not use sites so much, and which again will free up pitches for those of us who have had difficulty ,,getting ,at times pitches
Ps that is off course if the clubs staffing levels do not deteriorate any further

There are certainly many elements of our country that are, indeed, beautiful.
unfortunately, the infrastructure and prices aren't two of them😕
we've had an enjoyable few months touring since sites reopened and have embraced our time in the UK....but roads, roads, roads (appalling quality interspersed with 'upgrades' and traffic lights) and traffic volumes, dreadful driving and stupid speeding all contribute to an unpleasant experience.
we've certainly missed the contrast of wide open, straight roads with billiard top surfaces, far less traffic and the ease of pulling in somewhere for a safe, quiet break...
we've also missed the people and the sites and towns....culture generally...
perhaps all our wardens might be 'over there' now, hence the shortage😀

It would not surprise me ,as even a conversation a few minutes ago , this site is short staffed from November no assistants extending their contracts,, so no Xmas celebrations ,
And one of the longstanding perks of working long hours(still),for not Good salaries in some grades of sites ,has been reduced to new employees, only available when working for the club, where as in the past it extended to the period of employment after retirement,

As for the roads infrastructure when we have the about the same population as many eu countries with about a third of the space, and not helped in recent years with the EU? directive upping the HGV weight to 44tonnes, with the result as can be seen in many parts of the country road works to strengthen bridges let alone the increase in "tram lines" on many major routes

Could be that they were originally designed to take that. I know that in the UK 30 years ago the Dept of Transport would not agree to increased design standards as they would not accept that a new motorway (for example) not only took expected traffic from A roads but also attracted additional traffic. I have not been involved in motorway construction for 30 years or so

Probably because when yours were growing up there were not many facilities or amenities we are now used to in a modern world. Kids now are used to fantastic playgrounds with lots of adventure equipment whereas years ago like when I grew up a slide, a couple of swings and a witches hat were all you got.
I have been on very few C&MC sites with good play areas for kids young and old, yes a few do have a games room or indoor area they can meet and a few do have some nice play equipment for a modern age but most do not.
