Calor Gas Availability

There seems  to be quite a shortage of Calor gas around the country including here in Norfolk.  I attended the Norfolk Motorhome Show over the weekend and they seemed to have ample supplies of both 13Kg and 6Kg.

Was it a Calor stand that had these stocks and were they 6kg lightweight bottles? If so did you ask them anything about the situation.

It was a private company not Calor themselves.  I always used to get my Lites at the show but I only saw empties there this time.  The standard 6KG bottles were selling for £26.50.

I have a mixture of both Calor a Flo-gas bottles and certainly when I go to a rally in Lincolnshire I top up with Flo-gas which was only £16.50 before covid.

I keep hearing about gas shortages, but my supplier, East Anglia Gas, has plenty, even sold me an extra one last week as a spare. They supply Flo-gas by the way, no different to Calor

Does anybody know tye situation with supply on ClubSites? Specifically Hunters Moon.

It is whether I take a part empty 6kg or a relatvely new one.  Only like to carry one to reduce noseweight

One of our propane bottles ran out last night. This morning I phoned Morrison's service department, who put me through to their Bideford  Filling Station, who by chance had just had a delivery from Calor. The assistant didn't know what had been delivered but took my phone number and called me back about 30 mins later to say they had some 6kg bottles, promising to keep one for me, which I duly collected after lunch. Great customer service.

Should any one in the area need a replacement bottle Morrison's get a delivery every Thursday.

    Lucky Boy Nellie.

We called at Pewsey, the village, near Marlborough this morning and noticed that Woottons of Pewsey, the local hardware store had a goodly supply of bottles of various sizes.

Just in case anyone in the area.

It seems that the shortage of Calor gas is worse on the east coast and in the south east. Calor lites freely available here in the west!

Our  local supplier Scottish Borders hasn't had any 6kg bottles for months, wasn't too worried as had one full one. Was on Tewkesbury CAMH site and they had 6kg std. and Calorlite, and said that they had had no problems getting them all summer!

We ran out at Strathclyde Country Park and the wardens said they'd had problems with supply all summer. Tried all the local suppliers in the area and it was the same everywhere. Admittedly we use 3.9kg propane bottles (to keep nose-weight down) but it seems to be the same with all sizes north of the border.

What is the problem? The warden I spoke to said that due to Covid people weren't using their gas so there was a shortage of bottles to refill, thus grinding the whole system to a halt. That makes some sense but surely there should be enough bottles out there to cope with situations like this? Perhaps the more likely explanation is lack of drivers?

Does anyone in West Kent know of a supplier that has 6KG bottles?

Am getting desperate as winter is approaching and I live in my van. Don't want a 1.5 mtr. tall bottle as it won't fit in the gas locker nor very conveniently outside the van..

Have you tried the club sites in Kent? They could also have the phone numbers of a supplier?

Or go on line to Calors website and look for their dealers

That makes no sense to me at all.

If I am not expecting to use in the near future an empty gas bottle would not be returned into the system.

I would not wish a safefill, but living full time and perhaps using CLs in particular, I would seem to be a good choice for one of your bottles redface

No problem filling up with LPG t a BP garage just off the A30 near Oakhampton but it was 76p per litre. Also saw availability on the A380 but at 85p per litre. Check out the App FillLPG.

Have you tried ringing round your local Morrison's Supermarkets, redface? I appreciate that it's not local to you but we got a bottle from one at Bideford by contacting them, and they had just had a delivery and held onto a replacement till we could get there. Great customer service.

    Evening

Interesting how lpg prices are fluctuating. Here in Aguilas  (southern Murcia) the local bp garage was 76 cents yesterday but this afternoon it has risen to 96 cents!. Repsol exchanges are today here 13.50 euros. It was 28 degrees at 16.00 todaycool

Anyone seen the local news in this area about the fire at La Manga campsite? 12 touring units destroyed in a fire started by a sparking electric pylonyell

Thanks - have tried sites and rung round dealers with little success. As for LPG there are very few garages and whilst a good option most that I have come across will not allow loose cylinders to be filled - only LPG vehicles..

Widdicombe Farm Caravan site had plenty of 6Kgm calor gas cylinders for sale.I passed the same garage on the A380 and their new price for LPG was 89.9p per littre yesterday while at Asda Cribbs Causway it was 56.7p per litre! They also had plenty of fuel, filled up with diesel at £135.7 per litre which was was just as well because I had to drive miles out of my way to avoid multiple road closures.

Not a lot in some instances. I looked and measured on google maps. 16 plots in 120m length and back to back with another 16. In that length I would expect 8 plots on a CMC site and the rows behind to b staggered. Room on a pitch between hedges for an awning and caravan with perhaps a metre either side and car in front. . separation 1m to a flammable hedge and a further metre to next unit if also using awning. No thanks
