I think this year many have noticed sites being more "crowded?" than in the past with the mis conception that there are more pitches ,when it is that more pitches are being used on some sites than in the past would not have been so full, especially out of the peak periods,

The sites that have been bought or a new lease has been granted, if needed are upgraded as soon as the local LA has passed the plans and any NIMBYs have been satisfied?

Twelve years doesn’t take you back far enough to be honest JK. There seems to be a lot less room for each outfit at Marazion than there was pre Millenium. Mind, nowadays some of the outfits are a whole lot larger than they used to be. Did you recognise my post a couple of weeks ago that showed a photo of the nice little Lake that pitch 23 enjoys when it rains? 😂

Its still one of the nicest Club Sites on the network as far as we are concerned.👍

I am intrigued as to why there has been a reduction of pitiches JK. What has caused this, surely not fire regs which have been in place some times?

I would speculate at StAgnes some of the  smaller alcoves may no longer be suitable for current larger outfits.

If hardstands have been installed ,it normally envolves 3 grass pitches =2 hardstands

Whilst not wishing to dispute JK's statement, I know new pitches had been created at Marazion when we last visited (2018?) which definitely made the site feel cramped. If those extra pitches have been removed, it can only be a good thing.

The 3 sites referred to by JK are all grass.

My guesses for the "where did the pitches go" competion are:-

    1. Pitch(s) need to accomodate additional assistant wardens' outfit.

    2. Better vehicle access to something - such as to pump out sewage.

    3. Unable to trim protected overhanging trees.

Can you explain this, if the spacing needs to be the same why would you lose every third pitch?

I’m glad I’m not the only one who seems to think so. 👍We used to stay up in the top Horseshoe area, furthest point slightly uphill from entrance, and I am sure there were only ever 5 pitches in this area, back in the late 90’s, early 2000’s. Now there are seven in there. We were allowed to pitch up sideways on for a couple of years in the Paddock area, no way could you do this now, they are packed tight in there, it’s why we never use that area.

The area I noticed more pitches was across the site road from the narrowish strip where I think you pitched.

You will need to explain JV. I cannot understand how three grass pitches only make two hardstanding pitches if the spacing is the same🤔

Yes, you could well be right. We visited friends on there mid 90’s, and they seemed to have a huge amount of space. That was the area where the last three pitches on our arrival were available. Luckily, the Warden had got it wrong, someone had left a day early. One had a MH reserved sign on it, but I spotted pitch 23 was empty, no sign, so I argued the toss, and we got to stay on that pitch, which for us was brilliant. Away from all other pitches, pitch up sideways, and private gate to woods! The other pitches were terrible to be honest, not good for MH, too sloping. A lot easier to level up a van.

Sorry, JVB, but you set yourself up as the CT 'authority' on all things Club (which we poorer members aren't privy to) so I just thought that, as you made (another) sweeping statement, you might actually pause and explain it to me...

im happy to admit I don't see why the actual pitch surface would require a different spacing format that results in a third less pitches, so I'm asking you (who made the statement) to explain....please, as you "have seen the process when grass pitches have been converted to HS noted the reduction in pitches in the area concerned ,and told by a staff member"

I do not need the usual sarcastic comments and  the "likes" that follow from the less observant CT users  ,to surely have to it seems, explain every Dot and crossed T on each postcool

This is not dots and tees, this is you telling us that changing pitches to HS from grass means losing every third pitch, quite a fundamental issue for the Club when it comes to rolling out HS I would have thought.

perhaps I (and TDDA, no offence) aren't too sharp but there seems no discernible logic as the overall pitch size and spacing surely remain the same?

if I (we) are missing something obvious then please enlighten.

I can't ask any more politely than I have...

I quoted your post as you have given the impression that you hade seen this process ( Ewing implemented) as well as being told about it (the design) by staff members?

just a simple comment should help...

He does JV, but is constrained by being an active employee. I am sure there’s a great deal of up to date useful information current staff could divulge, but not on a public forum, and not if HQ has said not before a Membership announcement is made.
So at the moment, the Membership awaits (with breath bated, or not as the case may be😂) the “Day of Revelations”.

If it takes as long as the much vaunted upgrade to the website did a few years ago, some Members may never know......😱

Personally, I don't subscribe to anyone 'attacking' anyone else...

folk sometimes get tetchy but I'd never use the word 'attack' to describe the sort debate that goes on here. The words some might use to really 'attack' someone might be a little more robust than are being used here.

'Attack' is used regularly on here by a few, but IMHO it sounds far too melodramatic...

all I want is to be able to understand how digging up some grass and laying a few chippings results in a huge reduction in pitch numbers.
