Motorhome facilities and rules

On the whole it's not something that gives us much concern, as said by many on here you don't have to rely on m/h service points, there are other ways of topping up and emptying.
How strongly do I feel about this subject after 10 years of motorhome ownership, not very. I've come across all sorts of access from field taps to well planned bays. Occasionally things could be easier but it's camping not domestic living.

How about trailer caravan users emptying their Wasemasters (other names available) into the motor caravan waste grid . . . ?

I left a club site this morning and headed towards another () that has no shower/toilet facility, so, as the MHSP was just a few yards from our pitch, it made sense to pause and fill the tank so that I didn't need to on arrival here.
the MHSP was free so I started filling, just afterwards another van arrived and queued behind me. I gave him a friendly wave and continued to check my inside tank gauge.
as it hit full, i strolled back to the hose and let it gently brim the tank.another wave and a smile and I was on my way, with the other driver exercising the required amount of patience...
all very civilised...
however, close to last leaving time, I imagine there might be potential for a longer queue which then impacts on the ubiquitous narrow one way road...
perhaps then those waiting caravan owners might exercise the same level of patience?
ideally, as a std, two MHSP would site better with the rising number of MH....we will see

As posted earlier depends if a site has the room to install more MCSPs which seems is happening at sites ,and even more so at those that are being refurbished and revamped on purchase/new leases ,there are several on the network that the leases are coming up for renewal ,and i know of one that the ground is worth far more for house building than any lease in the short-term at least would ever bring in

It's dumping the grey that seems to take longer. My previous Moho had a pathetically sized grey waste tap which I changed for something a little larger which about halved the time. There's room for a Moho and a wastemaster if the MHSP is properly designed.

Last post from me on this subject. I'm beginning to remember why I leave Facebook to my wife, but its good to see that there is an active forum to discuss these things and I'm recovering from my initial outrage.
BTW. My mention of 60 years was an exaggeration. My first memory of camping was 59 years ago in a tent in Uganda with no tap to wue for and hole in the ground that I was told had snakes in it. Led to some constipation!

Sorry, I really dont see why, if I am not blocking a road way, I cant fill my motorhome from a service point. If I had only just started to fill up, I would stop to allow someone to fill their aquaroll. But the position of some motorhome points is in themselves an obstruction.
I think it is the one at Battle where in order to fill and dump grey at the same time we were sticking out slightly into the narrow road, and that is with a 6.4m van. Goodness know what happens with longer ones.

I don't need to. There are 'some' sites with a full width open grid so they do know how to do it. Easy for a Moho and a wastemaster at the same time.

Maybe due to the rapid growth of motorhome use we have a club originally designed around caravans somewhat wrong footed and floundering to be all things to all people with diversification into holiday pods at certain sites etc. Would focusing on getting things right for the core of the membership be a better approach than experimenting at some cost with developing and marketing these additional public facilities?

Not trying to defend how this club is changing (the pods etc are a separate business off shoot "experiance freedom" ,self financing? the future maybe?) Motor caravans owners have been part of this clubs accepted membership from the about late 1960 early 1970s? and service points have been evolving since then, and as many sites be it owned or leased, have been open many years some before even EHUs , when LVs and tow cars were much smaller also,IMHO think it will be many years yet before all sites (if still viable) for touring as we now know it?,will be able to cater for the minority who are not satisfied now

No, they’re doing good👍🏻. Progress is needed on all fronts at once evolving is constant a forward thinking & looking business never stand still. Dynamism is needed dust gathers on anything that doesn’t move.

Agreed. They might be doing 'good' (well) in some areas but it's often difficult for a business to strike out in too many directions at one time.
as JVB points out, the pods are a separate business...however, outsourcing the WiFi hasn't been a huge success as even outsourced businesses need a service manager from the host to ensure that the paid for service is meeting all performance targets and costs...
I have no idea how the club decides, plans, resources, manages and delivers a network wide project like revamping MHSP.
perhaps it should just find the 'groundworks' equivalent of Air Angel and let them get on with it..
many on here know what makes a good MHSP....they use them regularly when abroad...yet I've still to see any repeating satisfactory standard being delivered...
perhaps there is no 'blueprint' and different areas are using different designs?
either way, its not happening at any great rate yet...
focus is what will get this delivered, not a piecemeal approach...it's fairly easy to see whether 'pods' or 'MHSP' is the higher priority...

I think most of these things are fairly easy to work out. Take motorhome service points. I am pretty sure the Club have probably completed the work on most sites they actually own or the work is planned in where refurbishments are in the pipeline. The problem is where the site is leased, a surprising number! I imagine the club wouldn't be keen putting new waste points in where they don't know from year to year if they will still be running the site.
With WiFi I don't know what options the club have. I am pretty sure that it was the right decision to contract it out. I have been on non club sites which use Camper Connect as a supplier which have provided perfectly reasonable WiFi but whether they could cope any better with the demands of Club sites I have no idea. The trouble with WiFi is that the demands of the service have far outgrown the provision. I am not convinced that even the provision of 100GB connection will really solve the problem. Strangely we are currently on a no facility site with just a hotspot but almost outside the site City Fibre is laying fibre optics capable of at least 900GB if its the same as the City Fibre network at home.

If the Club was designing a brand new Site from scratch, then it’s likely they could plan and deliver a very good MH service point. But they very seldom do this. Most of the improvements are carried out around existing, sometimes very old Sites, they have a lot of leased Sites, as DK points out. Or they are buying up existing Sites, and making do again with existing infrastructure.
Dumping waste water, and filling up with fresh is such a tiny part of our overall holiday, in fact we seldom notice what’s on offer, and we certainly don’t base a stay somewhere on the MHSP. We deal with our fill and empty daily, so our waste tank never gets very full. We prefer it this way, makes life a lot easier.

We visited some friends on the St Agnes beacon club site last week, firstly I was surprised at the level of occupancy for this time of year and secondly the apparent number of pitches had increased since we last visited. It looked like a pack em in approach. I may be wrong but I didn't notice any extra facilities. In the past this site was rarely fully booked even in peak season due to the lack of a toilet block, a sign of staycation and changing demands possibly.

Morning
Always amuses me peoples perception of increased pitch numbers on sites. Just for information, St.Agnes has lost 4 pitches, Marazion 2 pitches and Godrevy 1 pitch in the last year. There's been no increase in numbers in the 12 years I've been with the club in the south west.
Service point only sites have been rammed this year. I hope the club take this on board for future reference. This last fortnight we've been full with mainly motorhomes, the grass has stood up well.

You have got me thinking there. Facilities cost money - a lot of money. Pitches make money. Modern caravans have on-board facilities (and ancient ones are allowed a toilet tent). So maybe instead of refurbishment, demolish and install more pitches? Could easily be fully serviced ones as the pipes are there.

The above two statements make it sound as this is a definitive statement applicable to all club sites when really it is only from your perspective from the limited number (as you yourself have stated) of sites you have visited. It is not by any mean the complete picture that you're trying to suggest.
I think the opposite. Firstly you mention the rate? Now how is that (or even how do you) even measured or defined or what can one compared it to? Is the rate on non club sites far better? Secondly in the frequents flyer sites I use and many further afield across the country I've noticed new MHSP being installed from as along ago as four/five years and certainly after any refurbishment.
It is fairly easy to see whether 'pods' or 'MHSP' is the higher priority? Again you make this sound like a definitive statement but how? From what source or statistics are you basing this on? Any or just your gut feeling? It is far from easy to see across all sites. I think the two have gone hand in hand, in fact in my experience MHSP wee being changed before these glamping pods on 5 sites I can think of. But I can't/won't say that applies to all sites as you appear to do?
Of course all my experiences and observations only and I wouldn't make those applicable to all club sites but they do offer a differing viewpoint to and counters yours.
