Perhaps you don't regard 'wild camping', AKA seeking to camp for nothing along with other issues raised by the article as 'anti social'.

In seeking clarification of your post, I asked "Who's defending the anti social actions?" as I don't recall seeing such posts. I made no comment about wild camping or "other issues". You seem to be making assumptions there, GT.

I think the 'should be' bit is the key element, Easy.  A typical loo could well be challenged with 20-ish litres of 'business' which hasn't broken down, especially as it could already be compromised if earlier users have flushed wipes down it.

It does seem that anyone not complying with your convention of staying on a campsite is somehow anti-social. The are lots of places where it is perfectly legal to park or stay the night which is not on a campsite which you seem unwilling to accept? My motorhome is a registered motor vehicle and as such can stop anywhere unless there are restrictions in place. With the ever increasing number of motorhomes being sold it will bring pressure on local authorities to either clamp down or more wisely think how that can make provision. If they do the latter there is every prospect that those areas will enjoy more tourists and might even mean more revenue depending on how they decide, or if, how much they decide to charge.

In general the ones on CAMC sites that I have visited for many years, are those that were there before the grid was installed. I assume they remain because it wasn’t worth removing them and for the rare event of an American type RV that needs to discharge black waste as we do grey.

Two separate things there for me. 'Wild camping' is perfectly fine by me, though personally I wouldn't want to do it even if I could, what isn't fine is the mess and other issues caused by some, a minority, leave behind. That's all I could object to. In any case I haven't seen any defence of this kind of behaviour?

And I said the minority may spoil it for the rest.

When we were in Scotland a couple of years back, (I can't remember just where it was), there was an area with what appeared to be several 'wild tent campers'. There was a free public car park adjacent, with a sign saying No Overnight Camping in the Car Park, and in which there were public loos, undoubtedly used by the tent campers, In the loos was a big sign saying 'No Cassette Emptying in the Toilets'. Surely this is encouraging MHs visiting the area / carpark to empty their cassettes in totally inappropriate places if emptying is becoming a must.

Personally I've never found it to be problematic emptying our cassette in the loo at home. Everything just flows down and round the u bend as per a 'usual' flush. Solids are less likely to be in a solid state when emptying a cassette than a freshly deposited 'solid'. yell If public loos are sited in a popular area they must expect them to be used quite heavily. I don't think there are many times when there would be a queue of MHers waiting to empty their cassettes, though. My guess is the odd one each week - but I may be wrong.

Bit more than that J20. North Norfolk was rammed with Motorhomes last September when we were there for a couple of weeks.

It’s just another symptom of a country struggling under a staycation epidemic to be honest. If it jogs some councils in the right direction in terms of improving facilities that’s good, but councils are strapped for cash at the moment so its a vicious circle. It’s chicken and egg, areas are desperate to get cash into the businesses, but the supporting infrastructure is buckling and bending, particularly if a minority spoil things for the majority. Some of the thinking isn’t joined up either.....we went to Scotland back in June, shops and cafes back open. But, public toilets were locked🤷‍♀️We were fine as we took our MH to the cottage with us, but there were some desperate folks skipping around looking for a loo.

For me, the one thing this pandemic has exposed is just how fragile and understaffed, under resourced some of our basic services are. Our area had nine Fire Engines off the run last week, ban on all staff holidays in place as well. And now the army is in supporting Ambulance Services in a number of areas around the country. Things are starting to crumble..........

If you stop to think about it "the business" of which you speak has to travel down a 50mm pipe to exit the cassette.  If it can do that then there really is no reason for it to block a normal toilet with a 100mm exit.  Quantity is irrelevant as it should just flow on down the drain.  I very much doubt that anyone using a cassette toilet will also use wet wipes because the cassette will block and be very difficult to empty.  It is the other users who are at fault so why blame MHers.

Casting my mind back to the days when I used to attend centre rallies you could get as many as 20 to 30 LVs emptying two days worth of effluent at the rally close down a manhole  giving access to the domestic sewer. I cannot ever remember one blocking up even though there was little if any way of flushing away the waste.

Quantity is entirely relevant. A domestic toilet is designed to process and empty a typical load at one sitting, a sewer or Elsan point considerably more.

Talking about motor home owners behaviour that annoys people - seen today and no, they didn’t display 4 tickets!

it hardly looks to be a full car park - did it prevent you from parking? ....

if the MH had done its best to park in just one space, then either the front or back of it would have stuck out at one end of the space or the other. On Tesco/Asda carparks, I park my ML across 2 side by side spaces at the far end of the car park. If the vehicle is too big for a space, no matter how its parked, it'll upset somebody if it's stuck out passed the white lines. If I'm towing, then the outfit is generally too long for service stations' parking spaces

Most considerate folks would go for a maximum of 2 spaces and buy 2 tickets if required. That’s all that’s needed. How busy it was isn’t relevant, but if it matters to you cars were queuing to get in when I arrived earlier in the day.

If you can’t see what’s displayed on a dashboard from a few yards away MAYBE YOU SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING ANY MORE? - HOPE THE CAPS HELPS YOU READ THIS. 🤣🤣🤣

Mmm, no, you'd not see from where you were stood unless you're 8ft tall😄

PS. Nice looking van. What brand conversion is it?

You don't need need to display tickets anymore. On car parks in the lakes and on the ones I've used round here I use various parking apps on my phone. You set it up with the payment details, enter in your reg and select the time you want, press OK and that's it, no tickets.

You even get a reminder text 15 minutes before if you want to extend the time which you can do even away from the actual car park.

I think we’re all familiar with the modern marvel of parking apps, some enlightened places even accept credit/debit cards and are available in areas with a mobile signal. However, in you statement you forget to include “other than those that do require tickets to be displayed” for example the car park in question.

and how would I now the car park in question is one of those SB? You didn't give that information did you? But it's good to know you actually checked or knew anyway before taking your pic.

I can't think of one that I've used that doesn't use these apps, maybe we're more tech savvy up here.

But as said unless that MH would have stopped me parking I certainly wouldn't take a photo or make anything of it.

Hang on - WM21- isn't that a local registration code? One might almost suspect the offending vehicle has been parked deliberately to cause a supposed offence - though I'm certainly not casting aspersions!  surprised

"Antipathy towards motorhomers is very evident in this thread...."

In fairness, CY, it has to be pointed out that the latest cause of steam rising was noted by a motorhomer anyway! laughing

It looks like a few fairly typical Cornish car parks, where they sometimes have a loo block, or folks pull into for a few minutes to photograph the view, deliver a parcel, etc... Might even be Praa Sands, looks very similar. If it was a full car park, it would be very annoying, but it’s simply a snapshot in time, and the van owner might have arrived back and driven off within seconds of it being taken🤷‍♀️
You could send it to Cornwall County Council meantime SB, let them decide to contact the owner/user. 😎

Is that ‘local’ as in 150 miles away? Wow, that’s some conspiracy theory!

Some of you seem to have lost sight of what this thread is about, that is, behaviour by some motorhomers which alienates others to our hobby.

I included this simply as an illustration of the type of thing I think annoys other people. Make if it what you will, and if you think it’s ok, go ahead and park across 6 parking bays if you feel that is your entitlement.

If someone parks across six parking bays and pays for all of them then that would be fine by me, what about you?

btw where did six parking bays suddenly come from, and/or why choose the number six?. You said it was four?

SB, it’s a hire MH. Company based in Devon, so you could contact the hire firm and take up your (valid) point with the firm as they will have hire details. Vehicle is called “Rufus”. Only you know the full circumstances around the photo you took, which does at first glance appear selfish, but no one other than you has the full picture, we cannot know how long it was parked up for, what time it is, or even where it is. They might of course have popped to the loo to empty and dump, but again, we don’t know. They might have stopped off for that last memorable “Cornish Sunset” photo, before heading home, never to come back to the SW again. A 30 second whim👍

Where is this car park, anyway, Bill? Looking at your photo it looks to be a lovely day, blue skies and all, taken possibly in the early afternoon, and yet loads of empty spaces just behind the offending MH. We're always looking for relatively quiet spots like that; it'd be an ideal day out for us when we're down next week.

    Do tell!   👍
