A question to all you Petrol Heads
My OH has a 2007 Kia Carens 2ltr crdi diesel 78k miles on clock, Engine management keeps intermintantly glowing orange, Kia diagnostics says it needs a new Exhaust Gas Regulator Valve (£500 fitted) anybody else had a similar problem ??, or know of this problem, car is only worth £750 as part exchange if fault fixed and £500 as is

It might be possible to clean it yourself. Google how to clean EGR. The replacement part appears to be quite cheap, so maybe shop around local garages for fitting. Don’t even consider letting a Kia dealer do it🤷♀️

Thanks guys have tried most of what is suggested on here, well the simple stuff like removing the air intake pipe and spraying with a cleaning agent but to no avail, looks like i am going to have to bite the bullet and replace the valve. Car has done quite a bit of motorway driving over the past couple of years 200 mile round trip to Tring everyother week so it is not coked up due to only pottering around town.
TTDA, my local KIA garage is not much more expensive than non dealer garages and having 2 x Kia's we have been loyal customers for nearly 10 years so I like to stick with those that I know.

Bit the bullet and had a new EGRV fitted, so glad i did, the differance is quite remarkable, drives like new, ok had to shell out £500 but has to be good for another 100k miles now and at aporox 4k per annum expected mileage that is going to take a long time to achieve that, and the other alternative was to spend £k's on a new/2nd hand motor...result.

£500 seems to be the starting point for opening the bonnet these days so money well spent.

Likely the EGR will just be coked up with burnt on gunge. The oil which gets sucked into your EGR from the turbo, gets burnt on by the hot recirculated exhaust gas fed in by the EGR's valve, when at a tickover. The EGR was a measure introduced to reduce Nox emissions.
The EGR gets choked up, as does the inlet manifold and the inlet valves. Long term the net effect is much worse emissions, than without the EGR.
You can remove and try to clean them up, along with the manifold etc. by scrapping the horrible gunge away, plus engine cleaner. Some even make use of the dishwasher whilst SWMBO is out, if they are quick enough ;-)
