Leaving dogs unattended in van

I'm replying to your post about leaving a dog on a CAMC.

Surely one answer is to stake the hound next to the Caravan/MH so that it can crawl underneath to get out of the sun, has plenty of ventilation and provide it with water.
Depending on the dog's own personality it can then sleep whilst still being able (when woken) to bite the legs off any intruder.
Never had a problem with my mutt on the odd occasion that this was necessary.
Could it all be down to training said animal?

That's still unacceptable and irresponsible, RF. I don’t care if you have done it, I still consider it in those terms.
The dog could soil the pitch, could bark and annoy others, could get free and run off, could still overheat as the sun moves around, would be subject to only a 2m tether thus restricting movement to find shade, would still be unattended, would be vulnerable to theft.

Thus leading to an even more manic response to Dogs from some quarters. RF’s solution causes more problems than solutions. Tethering a Dog near a caravan could end up with the Dog entangled in the caravan itself. The only way is to keep the Dog with you🤷🏻♂️

Nothing manic about some folks not sharing enthusiasm for troublesome dogs - we’re all entitled to a bit of peace & quiet and inflammatory comments don’t help. Just needs a bit of common sense and consideration and all ‘quarters’ can rub along with each other just fine.

This has already been covered. My post was about leaving a dog all day in a hot caravan when it was obviously in distress. No one's arguing about 10 or 20 minutes to go for a shower - obviously common sense prevails in these circumstances.

Why is that acceptable? Just because it happens "over there" doesn't make it any more correct does it?

Just noticed these remarks on a recent review of Hillhead site:
”All in all we had a great week. No negatives other than one camper was upset about the noise from a very large motorhome that arrived with an aircon system that was very noisy ...all day! The people refused to turn the aircon off because it "was on ...not for them but for the dog" which was left in the van while they were out! I think the "noisy" member should have been more considerate of others. He was asked but no formal complaint was made to the admin.”
Enough said!

I do not note where it says ban motor caravans with noisy air con, but we have in the past had noisy? aircon fitted LVs near us,
I think the quote in SBs post about no complaint ,or contact ,to site staff says it all about a lot of reviews

It was intended as a wry observation of a ludicrous situation. 🤪
What next? Doggie Day Care units on club sites to keep them amused for absent owners?

You're pushing at an open door here, Bill. I think every single dog owner who has contributed has condemned the practice of leaving dogs unattended, although it's intriguing that the OP was about about dogs being left in too hot conditions and, now, irrespective of the rights or wrongs of AC the complaint is about folks ensuring their dogs are suitably cool!
To be clear, we don't even leave our dogs unattended in our static van where they would have plenty of space and either warm or cool rooms, whichever they prefer!

No sleight intended towards responsible owners of which I’m sure you are one as clearly demonstrated by your posts. However, I just wonder where all this obsessive and anti-social (imo) behaviour leads us? I find the notion that the rest us have to put up with the hum or clatter of a/c units purely to serve the needs and comfort of dogs quite bizarre and a bit troubling. Surely if the dog is so important to people, why lock them up all day in preference to taking them along with them? If that’s impractical for whatever reason then maybe camping is not the most suitable pastime?
I have a bit of a thing about peace and quiet - can’t get enough of it as far as I’m concerned. However, it’s becoming harder to find and this sort of situation is just another unnecessary intrusion into what I feel is my entitlement to tranquility.

Agree with what you say about dogs, Bill.
But here's the thing - suppose during last week's very hot weather a family without dogs had decided to stay on site at Hillhead and, with no shade nearby, stay in the MH and take advantage of their AC - would that have provoked the same reaction?

We've actually taken advantage of just that Bill - but not on a Club site!. We were staying on a small commercial site just outside Pickering a few years ago. One of the reasons for being there was to attend our dear friend's 80th birthday celebration at the Forest & Vale Hotel in Pickering - across one lunchtime. Not only did the owner's wife give us a lift to the hotel but they also looked after Meg for the afternoon. What lovely owners

What if the world stopped turning….we could go on.
Not much of a holiday…staying cooped up in an air conditioned box. Now that would be a dogs life!

It’s very simple, the inconsiderate owners choose to bring an animal into an unsuitable and potentially dangerous environment. In order to mitigate that problem, others are subject to unnecessary inconvenience. Not exclusively about dogs, could be a parrot or whatever,

well asking if the world stopped turning is an unlikely event and one which you may not have any relevant personal experience or information or could even envisage to make an informed answer.
Asking you if suppose during last week's very hot weather a family without dogs had decided to stay on site at Hillhead and, with no shade nearby, stay in the MH and take advantage of their AC - would that have provoked the same reaction?
is certainty something that is within what you can envisage and could make a answer to?
2 -
I see, something less hypothetical like…… what if the a/c breaks down while the owner is out on a jolly somewhere and the animal dies of heat exhaustion?

Bill, I'm really struggling to follw your reasoning here - agreed with all the points about not leaving animals.
My question, not difficult to answer surely, is would you object equally if the owners were using AC purely for their own comfort? The noise, presumably would be exactly the same.
3 -
Yes, I would. No need for a/c in the UK (or generators for that matter) on sites as far as I’m concerned. If a/c noise is intrusive (not all is) I’d move pitch or site if necessary. My experience of both scenarios is that the type of people who use them in the first place tend not to be considerate to the needs of others and making a friendly point about it usually achieves nothing. It’s just easier to remove oneself from the situation. I’ve stayed on sites with daytime temperatures of 42c without the need for a/c. Adequate ventilation, shade and a fan or two is all that is required. A small fan will move a lot of air in a small space.

That wasn't the question asked though was it? M was asking if people were involved would you have posted the same?
