C&CC closing sites

Interestingly on C&CC sites staff go off duty in the evenings and anyone needing out of hours help has to phone a central number. The staff are considered off duty and unavailable, although how that works in a dire emergency is questionable. Even with this type of paired down staffing there are still gaps in recruitment.
I don't know what sort of wages are on offer but in most industries you have to pay for the best if you want to run a good business. In the end site fees come into the equation too.

JK, I have often wondered why head office don’t do something about it as the proof is there on the page. I concluded that forum access hasn't been withdrawn because there is actually no substance in the words posted.🤷🏻♂️

The fact that the Treble "C" has closed sites surely has to be seen, as being a responsible employer. Firstly, for not expecting a site to be managed without the correct level of staffing. Secondly, it probably means the smaller sites closing and staff moving to support the larger sites where the staff shortages are greatest.

agreed Mark. a post from Slindon site, following chat with warden there says that 10 smaller sites are closing to move the staff to bigger sites where shortages are more acute.

People have asked me in the past 'What's the difference between the 2 clubs.
We've been happy to use either club's sites to get a pitch where & when we wanted, we tend to use both clubs excellent 5 van networks, because we don't rely on facilities blocks.
It's extremely sad to hear that some C&CC may be temporarily closed part of this season , hopefully next year will be completely different for us all.
I've always said not much really.... until this year. 🤔
If we have to drop a club off our expenditure outlays in the future coming years..... here's a clue which it could possibly be.

The standards of washing facilities in the UK aren’t as stellar as many fondly imagine.

Madness man! Madness!
Next You will be expecting receptions manned full time 8am to 10pm 7 days a week by multi lingual staff, and the site maintenance man in his Kawasaki Mule to turn up if there is a technical problem on site!
What next! Freshly baked bread and croissants each morning at reception or the site shop? That’s the path to anarchy!

Harry, you do seem to be getting het up about things. You've said you don't use CAMC sites and the thread is about C&CC sites closing so I'm wondering what your issue is. 🤷♂️

I’d rate the ‘exceptional facilities’ on the two big UK ‘club’ sites about or par with a typical EU family run site. Go to one of the big European chain or resort sites and it’s a whole different ball game. The ‘hobby job’ shops on U.K. club sites is distinctly odd in the 21st century.

Nope, not get up at all, I just find the curious employment model the club sites use rather outdated, all seems a bit indentured servitude hobby job rather than that of a professional industry.

It would have been much clearer if you’d made that point earlier instead of injecting all that excitement into your posts.
However, nobody is in indentured servitude. Wardens take the job because it suits them and their pay and conditions are protected by law. No doubt the hobby job, as you call it, aspect dates back to thoughts of how things were in years gone by. I suspect the site staff wouldn't be too happy to be thought of as anything less than professional but I realise you will be rather out of touch with the way staff and sites operate these days because, as you said, you don’t use the sites.

Do many wardens of Club sites go on to own or rent sites, and run them as their own business?
I met several people who ran CS and CLs and grew that small business into bigger sites of their own, but I never came across a warden from a Club site with either Club who did that.If there are any former wardens out there who went on to run sites of their own please tell us about the business model and the way you staffed and managed the new site.

In reply to previous posts. The uk does offer big sites with the all singing dancing set ups so I'm surprised that anyone who likes that type of holiday uses club sites and expects the same, they won't find it. The recruitment adverts explain who this may suit plus the flexibility and team work needed. It looks like this year the effects of unpredictable Covid closures etc. has dented people's confidence in taking up this type of work.

From the many wardens I've talked to down the years they have had full time, often professional other jobs, and caravanned (or Mhed) while having that job then took early retirement in their fifties (often with sometimes a sizable package) and decided to take on being a warden.

Covid is never going away, neither is the impact of Brexit - add in the rising cost of air travel, and the era of cheap mass market overseas holidays is drawing to a close.
the U.K. holiday industry can adapt or die. Too much of the industry is not geared to the return of couples and families with better expectations, and is far too parochial and amateur. ‘It was good enough for me as a child in 1970’ doesn’t cut it. The camping industry intoto needs to seriously raise its game.
At a minimum, I expect good toilet facilities, a shop and bar/eatery on site.
CL’s? I’ve always found the idea of roughing it in a field with little more than just a stand pipe and being charged for the ‘privilege’ a very curious concept indeed.

Are you really that out of touch, Harry, or is this all a big wind up?

In my years of using club sites, there are many highly skilled men women from all walks of life, 890 who have because it seems modern work practices. they have taken early retirement, and looked at employment with both clubs,, as they have the misconceptions of the job, not so much now as they do work experience on sites ,which may also.be part of the low recruitment uptake,,,
In past years it was normally june/july that quite a few of the new intake ,realised the job was not as they thought when looking at it from the outside and resigned,
Another problem that both clubs seem to have is when on the bigger sites six/eight people.,from different backgrounds and employment positions are put together, with the expectation that every one will get on

good toilet facilities, a shop and bar/eatery on site.
Well, I, and possibly quite a few others, DO NOT.
I have excellent toilet facilities without having to dress and go outside. I am organised enough not to need a shop on the site. A beauty of my holiday is being away from bars (and probably eatery as well, whatever that is).
If I wanted such surrounding, I would apply to Billy Butin and his compatriots for accomodation.

"CL’s? I’ve always found the idea of roughing it in a field with little more than just a stand pipe and being charged for the ‘privilege’ a very curious concept indeed."
Purely out of interest, when did you last actually use a CL which was as you describe, Harry?

Steady on !!!!!!!!!!!!Cant remember when i last used a club site, and i mean for real, not like some on here who make this claim but have been seen to be hiding in the depths of Devon, but i do use insurance facilities for van, RP for overthere, if we ever get there again, and have had some good discounts on things such as Satnav, clothing/boots etc from the likes of Mountain Warehouse, so not a complete waste of £54 and i do like to support those who use club sites

and i think this is a very key factor, for sure some UK site are struggling to remain open as a result of covid, however, climate change is with us in a big way, e.g. devastation in Western EU, and temperatures are rising, who wants to be in a caravan when it is 40c, unless of course you have some very good A/C.
Mine has been open for most of day, just got a beer from fridge and it is showing 38 degs, Malaga was 38 degs with night time temps no lower than 30c. We only go overthere March thru June normally to get some early sun/warmth and visit daughter, to be in Spain July/August can be down right unpleasant.
Yes this is a small island and in some areas very crowded, but as temperatures rise parts of the country not explored by many will open up, lived north of Aberdeen for 12-14 years on some beaches on that east coast all you ever saw that resembled human were the seals, today Aberdeen is showing 25 degs, i bet the beaches which are fantastic are still only hosting seals, there are some fantastic golf courses, Donald Trump owns one just outside Aberdeen
our beach today was sort of crowded but nothing to compare to Devon/Cornwall, 2 familes i spoke with had travelled just 10 miles and they had been on the beach since 0930 hrs this morning and were loving it.
