Looe swimming pool
So it's been announced that the swimming pool on the site is closed for the rest of the season because the club haven't been able to find a life guard.
As a gesture of good will the pitch fee has been reduced by £4 per night. I'ts a pity they couldn't have done that at Culloden earlier in the year when the toilet block was out of action

as David says, hard to believe but many other businesses seem to have signs outside looking for staff of one sort or another...

Havent been for many years, took the Gkids, loved it, but back then i seem to recall the wardens were "Pool Attendants" not life guards and had not had the full training to act as life guards, so you were responsible for your kids safety etc, dont recall there being a specific life guard, and i guess they would probably need 2 to give full cover. See somebody still cant get over us leaving the EU

Amazed that they can’t find a couple of college/uni kids in that area. Many of them would see it as a ‘cool’ summer job. However, I expect having the relevant qualification is just part of the story?

might not be such a "cool" job, when i spoke to the wardens about how busy the pool might be during July/August they told me it was manic with i think only 30 people allowed in at one time, queues often snaked round the block as it was a 1 in 1 out situation and very difficult to manage, and i dont expect the club are top payers

I don’t suppose it matters as long as the trainer is accredited and it’s the relevant NPLQ qualification.

They could offer a booking system, I’ve seen that work well this year operated by 2 young girls without drama. Not the perfect pool day perhaps, but better than nothing.

I think Looe did operate sessions, but life guards are in demand all round the popular coastal resorts, especially Cornwall.
A pity this has happened, it's one of the attractions of the site.
There are some beaches nearby, don't know which are best for families. They're a bit safer on that side of Cornwall.

There’s a beach & sea pool at Millendreath, not too far away. Not sure if it’s public or part of a resort tho’.

There are always alternatives. Google is telling me of 15 other campsites in Cornwall with swimming pools which are open.

If the Club can’t find a Lifeguard (all qualified Lifeguards are RLSS/RNLI trained) then it might be because Lifeguards have to attend ongoing training to retain their qualification. Cornwall County Council will probably have on ongoing training programme, given how many Lifeguards it will employ through the Summer, but the Club won’t have this. Working as a Beach Lifeguard or a Pool Life guard are slightly different as well, with different qualifying criteria. So it’s not quite as easy as plucking some willing human (of any age, you do get 60 year old Lifeguards if they are fit enough) and plonking them on a pool side on a minimum wage. Personally, I wouldn’t want responsibility for x number of half supervised children, and misbehaving adults on a minimum wage......we are talking being responsible for lives here.

When I worked in Sunderland a lot of the sixth formers would train as lifeguards in the evenings and do the Bay Watch thing - but on Roker beach which I suppose wasn't quite the same thing. Of course they had to wait till term ended so there might be more available once the schools finish

Let’s face it, the Club doesn’t go out of its way to provide the sort of amenities at its sites which many commercial sites offer. If I wanted a campsite with a swimming pool, preferably indoor and heated in this climate, a Club site would not be my immediate first choice.
