Speeding Survey

Most of the things that upset/ irritate well behaved Members on Club Sites, including speeding, are easily cured. Unfortunately, the Club simply isn’t into rescinding Memberships as a deterrent. If you don’t allow the badly behaved onsite, or remove them when they are, you get rid of the problem. Tolerating bad behaviour is weak management and poor customer care. Wardens aren’t the issue here, but they need strong support from Area Management and HQ. It’s possibly easier to get a ban from the Club for a couple of forum misdemeanours than speeding persistently on a Club Site.🤷♀️ Twisted priorities☹️

"Tolerating bad behaviour is weak management and poor customer care. Wardens aren’t the issue here, but they need strong support from Area Management and HQ"
and when did you last see an area manager on site ??? and for sure if I was a warden earning perhaps £10 ph, would that be an insentive for me to get into a confrontation with a site resident.
Many of the commercial sites I use dont seem to have as many problems as posted on this forum, or maybe i just use them out of season when the youngsters are in school, but on many the owner is actively involved in the day to day running of the site, so any breaking of the rules is dealt with at the highest level and normally very swiftly.
The time lapse for when Wardens reporting a member to head office for repeated offending and action being taken is probably too long, and anyway it is the wardens word against the member, unless of course you have cctv footage etc.

"Many of the commercial sites I use dont seem to have as many problems as posted on this forum…"
One reason might be that commercial sites don’t generally have forums so issues aren’t brought into the public eye.

I use only commercial sites-the same problems are endemic no difference. They are noisier than C&MC sites, with a wider variety of ages, more friendly too. But generally the same things apply to both. Although when using C&MC sites the few that would talk were negative in their demeanour, the commercial folk where there for the craic👍🏻

I think there's generally more of a generational mix on commercial sites which, perhaps, results in a more relaxed atmosphere. Problems/issues, as you say, apply to both. It’s not just a CAMC thing.

could be true, but my meaning was from my own observations when being on site, and my last used commercial site had very few if any rules posted around the site with the exception of Covid ones re face masks, hand wash etc, yes there were only 17 pitches, but i was surprised how many on site were CAMC members
p.s. perhaps the CAMC members were being good whilst playing away from home

There are forums covering a whole range of campsites and caravan sites - speeding on site is never mentioned.
So are those campsites different ? Are the people who stay on those sites different? Or is it just the old folk who post on here who are different?
I think I know the answer.1 -
I know there are other site and LV related forums, Euro, and I read a thread on one only the other day about speeding on sites. As a general rule, though, you don’t find sites such as the one Rufs favours running a forum.
You think we are different, then, every one of us who posts on here, including you? Surely not! I think folk are the same across the board.

How about two or three speed cameras in potentially dangerous locations instead of Illuminated corporate logo signs ? There are children on Upper Wharfedale site and an incredible number of speeding motorists and motorhomes. I hope it does not take another child’s death to stop this dangerous behaviour. It does of course happen everywhere but and not just CAMC sites.

I assume you mean to use the cameras to provide proof for the club to make sanctions against the offenders, OL.
The idea certainly has merit if the practicalities and visual impact on the surroundings could be sorted out.

The bridlington site this june has a notice in the facility block waning drivers that the wardens will be doing speed checks on site ,I find that if I drive on site in first gear in my 2litre mondeo set at tickover my speed is 5mph with or without a caravan attached and I do get a few looks as Iam going around the site but Im sticking to the set speed limit and even at 5mph the van can sometimes seem to jump up when crossing the dreaded speed bumps

Seen a few Rufs. The AM who dealt with the Exeter Racecourse incursion by Travellers was very very good, really helpful and decisive as I recall. As were the Warden team. The young Police Officer however........
Start with a quite hard nosed policy in terms of toleration, weed out the serial offenders, make life difficult for them, then a clear message is given. Most of the Wardens we have met have been very fair minded, well trained staff. Not sure if the pay grade includes evicting someone from Site though, without recourse to either AM or HQ. I am sure the Club will have a policy in place though.

If as happens, some "members"? refuse to leave or behave as to cause others to feel uncomfortable , it is very expensive to have them evicted , as if it is more than one unit and occupants each one I understand has to be a separate case,
I have seen it in operation. twice and each time it has been in recent years

"The time lapse for when Wardens reporting a member to head office for repeated offending and action being taken is probably too long,"
Repeat offending would only occur on site if the said offender stayed on site for several days. However if the details of complaints were recorded against such members over a period of time then it is HQ that could take action.

We encountered a warden once getting involved in this type of action.
We were near the site office talking to the warden and he saw a vehicle coming towards the barrier at some speed. Excused himself and stopped the driver from leaving. The driver remonstrated with him that there was no-one else around so no-one could get hurt. Not true actually as we saw a couple of children walking nearby and so did the warden who asked him if he (the driver) would be making a complaint if one of his children or grandchildren were injured by a car exceeding the limit on site. Plus the limit was there for a reason such as a child running out suddenly or a dog.
The warden was excellent, didn't lose his temper or raise his voice but certainly got his message across and then pointed out the 2 children who the driver hadn't seen. I won't repeat his description of said driver as he exited the site.

I defy anyone to speed at the Chatsworth Site - pitches shoehorned to make most profit - even the ducks and pheasants can't get above a waddle .......

One of the main complaints is speeding ,but very rarely is it and the offenders reg number ,reported to site staff, and as here at FM a vey big site and I know if noted the offender is given "advise" the chance of being caught and reported is minimal if members are not prepared to do their bit, instead of just moaning amongst them selves

Well done that warden!

Jump in front of the speeder with your arm out shouting STOP, 1) you may die-but your family will be rich. 2) you won’t die & you’ll be rich. 3) the speeder will keep going & never get caught. Mmmmm 33% success rate , you ain’t selling it to me JV🤔🤷🏻♂️☹️

Last week I was at Putts Corner and was sited on Pitch 3, that is one pitch away from the Exit Barrier and i have to say I was amazed at the speed that people in vehicles approached that barrier knowing full well they had to stop and register the exit pass for the barrier to lift. Most of those same people usually got out of their vehicles to register their pass rather than wind the window down and do it.

I haven't read all the posts (over 230 before this) so someone may have made a similar comment. My Octavia diesel in first gear on tickover shows 9 mph. Do I burn the clutch out by slipping it all the time, or simply do that speed unless near someone / something where a slower speed to a few seconds while passing would be more sensible?

I think that tick over speed needs adjusting. How on earth do you cope in a traffic jam?
