...but we're always reminded what great value the membership fee is and how quickly we will get it back after just a few nights ...though my 'driver' is a dicount of ferry fares...

as others, i have made use of CC sites during an 'unusual' touring year, where we needed to book early to get a tour put together and the situation was one which might have changed quickly, in either direction.

despite all the leg pulling about 'grumbles' the booking conditions, and the ability to change them quickly is one of the club's better features.

by the same token, its sometimes viewed as one of its worst when some folk are frustrated as suddently all those fully booked sites miraculously have vacancies just before arrival.

...and, as customers, we are perfectly entitled to make use of a product but retain views on how that product (or service) might be improved.

if customers dont feed these things back to suppliers they will just carry on delivering the same old.....surprised(as JVB would say)

Not sure. Five "contents removed" on the trot means we must have been involved in serial transgressions. Can't remember what I posted now.

Perhaps all LV's should be built with hab doors at the back then it wouldn't matter.

Not so good on a couple of CC pitches I recall from our caravanning days. Our cassette door was on the back of the Cadiz and I could hardly get in and open it, as we had to go so far back to get the tow bar off the road. Although I suppose you could go nose in and step out into the road.🤔

What seems to be lacking with some is sociability, and tolerance

So, in the spirit of door on the wrong side pitching…

anything I've done here not pass muster?

Actually when I read this I didn't think there were any but when dropping my caravan later the dealer had a number of Swift Basecamps on sale and they have a rear door.

A few MHs have rear doors too. NuVenture do one and AutoCruise did in years gone by.

The Basecamps with a rear fitting awning are quite long so I'm not sure how they fit on pitches🤷🏻‍♂️

I remember a compact coach built from Elddis - an Autoquest I think - with a rear door, which I believe was a fairly popular "budget" van. Mind you I am thinking about the late 1980s early 1990s (I think!).

There was one at Durham Grange when we were there at the beginning of June. It just fitted, tow bar just off the road, awning guy ropes onto the grass at the back. The pitch was a fairly normal HS standard awning pitch.

The alternative would be to turn the caravan sideways across the pitch…..😱

Very true, but of course they were micro vans. I was thinking of a more conventional coach built. Most micros had rear doors. The Autohomes Bambi was another classic micro and Elddis did a similar one - called the Nipper. Both with rear doors and very similar.

The Elddis I was thinking of was the Autoquest 270 (I googled it!!). It  always stuck in mind as a very rare coach built with rear door. I always rejected the notion myself; I was never sure it was making best use of the available space and who wants to emerge from their van in the morning at the back of their pitch - often into a hedge!

That's how the one we saw at the Wirral was pitched, on grass wink

There was a Basecamp with a rear awning on the Commercial site we were on in Wales last month and although the pitches were not over long the van and awning fitted on just fine. I would guess that in total that the combination was not much longer than a large twin axle van.

Edit, just had a look, the Basecamp is just over 5 m long and the awning is about 2 m so combined no longer than a decent sized caravan so should fit on a club's pitch without much if any overhang at the back.

Doesn't the Swift Sport have a rear opening door?

Edit - The answer is NO. My error. Mixing it up with Basecamp.

A couple of years ago we had a look at the Knaus rear door sport caravan. Much the same as the Swift. I'm too old for that. Need a bit of comfort nowadays.😁

Then wild camp! I’ve just heard some folk complaining that their caravans were looking directly into each other’s front windows from across the road. They thought pitches should be staggered to avoid this! Where will it all end, in different fields? What has happened to that happy camping ethos we knew from old?
