I intended it as a compliment to the gentleman for his wisdom and discernment, but I am sorry you fail to see that as relevant.

    Yeah, right - "whatever"!  laughing

For many years we used to stay at Silverbow Park just outside Perranporth, rather than Treamble Valley - how wise and discerning were we?  👍

In the distant past the caravan club was quite military orientated as many of the club senior officers and site wardens were all ex military personnel

😂You surprise me JV. Flags etc......

Not sure if it’s still the same, but I think there were a few ex firefighters around in last few years. Both Church Stretton and Bromyard Downs Wardens were ex fire service I recall.

for the umpteenth time, SF has just 9 'rental caravans' (i counted them yesterday) and 2 lodges...everything else is for touring.

its nothing like a Haven site (btw, i havent used one for years now...) its a touring site...fairly large but then so is Hillhead or Incleboro Fields.

my point is that the Club model is de facto for Club sites and cant produce the ready levels of customer service some commercial sites acheive.

i needed to speak to a staff member at White House Beach....no one answering the phone, so i went to the office and got the 'closed til xxxx' notice on the door.

the issue was important to me, so i trudged around the site and eventually found someone (doing a warden thing) at the other end of the site...

in fairness, they dealt with the issue straight away, but my point is that on a typical commercial site reception is staffed throughout the day.

perhaps the club doesnt see this type of customer facing role as important as some other organisations do.

i need to see someone in reception here this morning...i know there will be someone, if not two people, that i can speak to.

this thread is club v commercial and the above is one clear difference ive found....Club runs its minimum staff model, where tasks are performed by the same folk sequentially and customers have to fit in around this.....shower cleaning, grass cutting, reception opening etc, whereas a typical commercial carries out all these tasks simultaneously without interruption to customers.

But as I have said for the umpteenth time staffing levels at large commercial. Multi type accommodation (have you checked Swiss farm residential side)will have dedicated staff to carry out the jobs

The clubs "Experience Freedom" offshoot also has dedicated staff

I use both club and private. Both have advantages.  The club is easy to cancel and quality of basic facilities good.  Private tend to have good facilities and other offerings such as a bar and restaurant. Time of year and offers affect price

    Go with what suits you

Trouble is pensions rarely keep up with price increases.

That is where some on here  are still in the past   a long retirement and todays prices are worlds apartundecided

I know my  old job is still going ,and the salary paid now compared to when I retired in 1994,  site fees would seem extremely reasonable even Hillhead at peak timessurprised

Being tech savvy & computer literate carry a premium. In the early 90’s tech as we know it was in its infancy👍🏻

Yup, that’ll be it, a satellite depot. Your old position will be shared by 2 others as well as having their own responsibilities👍🏻. It’s good you jumped before being pushed-smart move👍🏻

The discussion was re JV & his time, not school kids in the 21st century. This was from the birth of the internet & computing in the 20th century(1990’s)👍🏻

What have all the latest replies to do with the OP I wonder, and it certainly isn't discussion drift?
