    Having read all the replies on here, John I’m sure you will now realise that to a great many of us it does make sense, particularly to those of us that do tow a toad!👍

    The most expensive of a three week trip JK but I don't mind paying if it is somewhere I want to be. Didn't fancy the Motorhome show this year, went in as a day visitor today to get what I wanted. Disappointing show though, not anywhere near the exhibitors as in previous years. I didn't even see Aqua Kem on sale!

    Hope you are on East Side PD, much nicer than all hardstanding West side. If you are into cycling, some nice routes there. 😁

    On the west side TTDA, not too bothered where I went for the short time I am here. Went for a pitch were I knew sat TV reception was available. Nearly all the motorhomes seem to be over here, not a caravan in sight.Entrance to the show camping might have been limited this year? Only pre bookings allowed.  No camping on the day available, some may have turned up at FM last minute?

    Actually, I like the west side best. Decent HS yet still a fair bit of grass🙂

    we are on the East side, prefer grass in these sort of conditions...this is a convenient halfway stop as we head back into Oxfordshire from northern Norfolk.

    the site is nice and weve alread racked up zillions of steps around the park and even along the river/railway into Peterborough.

    weve done loads of cycling so far over the past 20 odd days (and will be doing a bit more this coming week with pur pals) so a bit of rest for a couple of days...anyway, its only 20 mins into town on the bikes so that was a bit quick..

    Problem with the the East side , is at weekends and school holidays the road layout invites cycle races for children,,which although they try is almost impossible for the site staff to deal with ,when the parents will also be involvedundecided

    To me it depends on speed. We stopped at Durham Grange for a night during half term. The kids were cycling round for hours at a generally sensible speed and weren’t affecting anyone. If they had been racing round at circa 20 mph, it would have been a different matter. As that just wouldn’t have been safe for them and others.

    We don’t do weekends at FM. Leave it to the families. It was lovely when we were there back in April. A lot of MHs when we were there, more vans came in as we were leaving on the Friday.
    I was one of those belting round the Site roads on a bike😁 Decided to explore both Sites after arriving home from a longer ride. I did the West Side first, up and down every nook and cranny, little did I know Warden’s CCTV had picked me up as an “invading person”. A puffed out Warden (on foot) finally caught up with me as I was negotiating getting back into East Side. We had a chuckle when I had convinced him I was a Member, and merely exploring. They were on the ball though👍 Nice mid week Site early in season.

    There was little open in the town when we were there BB. It’s the first town we went into, on bikes, since last year. We decided to go and have a look around outside of Cathedral, sadly not open to visitors. Lots of Covid enforcement officers around, but we saw no one doing anything they shouldn’t have been doing. That rowing lake on cycle route is impressive, hadn’t seen that before. We had to use a different route into town as they were working on one of the cycle paths. As you say you soon rack the steps up walking round Park.

    Has anyone hired a small car when on site, is this practicable and can the wardens recommend near by options?  This could be an option when staying somewhere for a week or so, but not sure re cost as have not done this yet.

    Yes, we did it once. A little oldish car on IoW. Cost was about £100 for 3 days but it was several years ago. There was no need to bother the wardens as we arranged it all from home having researched local hire companies on the internet. Obviously it’s practicable but you may need the hire company to deliver or allow a second driver for collection and return.

    Don't forget there is an arrangement between the club and Enterprise which allows you a discount and this is probably what a warden would suggest.

    We are going to the IOW soon and we plan to use the Enterprise hire scheme through the Club as I understand they either pick you up from the site or deliver to site and the same at the end of the hire period. Cost wise it very much depends on the size of car. Probably allow around £35 a day depending on size. 

    Ironically the IOW has a pretty good bus service but unfortunately not many of the sites I have looked at or stayed at are that close to bus stops. Southlands is a walk down a road with no pavements and where we have also stayed, Waverley Park is fine going down to bus but quite a hike uphill from East Cowes, especially if you have shopping. Hence the reason we are thinking about hiring a car this time. If its a success we might think about it for other places.
