No I think you are right, everywhere we've stayed this year, about eight different sites now, there are many larger motorhomes with stickers/equipment etc indicating their normal destinations would be abroad. However we see all sorts of outfits on our travels and it's to be expected this year. smile

What does the gender of the MH-er matter?

It is called observation why should it not be of interest to others if not to you?

Why is it strange to have a car driven separately? We did it a few times when we had the coachbuilt van and were travelling locally to an area with particularly narrow roads.

Because it is not that common.

Anyway, whatever their reasons, it is entirely their business and most folk wouldn't even think it worth a mention.

    Some would however.

Gender - it could be considered a sexist observation as it has no bearing on the activity.

Car driven separately - probably more common than you think.

Their business - only curtain twitchers would be interested enough to gossip about it.

No need to thank me for the explanations. You are very welcome.

We used tow a car on a trailer with our car when OH did motor racing, people tow all sorts things. Some LVs tow trailers. Buying an LV that can tow provides a lot of flexibility, some even tow caravans...can't really see why a vehicle towing something else  raises questions. smile

You consider noticing a persons sex to be sexist? We have a male neighbour on one side and a female on the other. Not sexist but a simple observation.

I suppose that you will be saying more common than I see next. I see it but not frequently. More common at weekends.

One does not need to twitch curtains to notice trends and take some interest.

Those are not explanations but simply your beliefs of those around you.

Here endeth my half of this exchange

It doesn't Brue merely observations but it seems more common at weekends with couples who have different work patterns

im sure our MHing is not 'representative' at all....however our Continental trips cover winter in Spain, returning in late March/early April, and again later towards September in southern France.

other times in Spain and France can be too hot, so our touring at this time of the year would be UK based with or without current restrictions.

ill wager many regular 'over there' travellers will similarly spread their travels to fit seasonal temperatures...

this tour we've had everything from 50+ mph winds and horizontal rain to the lovely current spell of weather....no need (for us) to have it hotter than this elsewhere.

when i booked the trip a few months back, it was done in the expectation that everywhere would be rammed...the conversations at booking time suggested this, but cancellations have meant sites not being quite as full as we thought.

i even got on a 'club gem' last week (switched from another nearby site via a cancellation) which wasnt available at booking time...

we also noticed a couple of lone female owners of MH near to us. i just thought 'good on them'....one van was a large Rapido A-class.

i cant say ive noticed too many seperate vehicles, one Smart being towed by a PVC, thats about it.

id say the 4 CLs weve done so far have shown a mix of, roughly, 2 caravans, a PVC or 2 and a a coachbuit....so a pretty even spread of vehicle types.

I am not sure why gender has been brought up. JVB’s reference was to OH, unless I missed something. Surely in this day and age that could relate to either gender and cannot therefore be considered a sexist observation.

It doesn't matter to me Brue either. I was happy to comment on others observations.

My neighbour has a very nice camper van, a Jag, a large 4 by 4, an MX5 and three motorbikes. His choice but unusual amongst many single males or females locally.

what a boring CL we are on....no one towing. as a feature, we have half a boat turned on its end and stood vertically to provide a seat for two thats shaded from the sun.

no lone females either, nor spare cars, but lots of lovely, sunmy open space yet set in a large, flat, grassy copse.

it has been noticible that, on the few club sotes weve used, there seems to be more diversity on choice of vehicles, added tow cars or other seperate vehicles than on the CLs but this might just be coincidence..

We tow with our Jeep. We could tow with our MH. We often take both the MH and the Jeep. We used to take the Jeep and a canoe. We can’t get the canoe onto the MH, but we could and indeed might buy an inflatable canoe.
We usually travel as a couple in the MH, (not to have someone to talk to, primarily because we are married to each other) Occasionally I stay in the MH alone. Occasionally OH stays in the MH alone. On rare occasions you might spot OH and my Mum in MH. Or OH and my Sister. The dog however is always to be found in the MH. But never driving, he likes a chauffeur.

We shared a campsite in France with an Liverpool Irish traveller extended family group. Not impoverished people, they had his and hers matching Mercedes, and as well as their living accommodation one of them was towing a 3 metre covered box trailer fitted out with domestic sized washing machine, tumble drier, fridge, freezer, cooker and dishwasher. Club members might like to copy.

BB, you don't happen to be on a CL near Jodrell Bank, do you, as there's one near there with such a seat.? If so you might have just missed WN!!

Very reasonable prices even at non members prices according to those we spoke and assisted who had hired motor caravans when we were last there

Back again at FM next month hopefully have they filled the two vacancies there ,do you knowsurprised,
