Locked out
I wonder if anyone can explain why some motorhomes, possibly caravans too, can auto lock when the keys are still in the van. Just had an instance where this happened, keys in bathroom at back of habitation end of unit on adjacent pitch. Luckily for this family a small window was ajar which could be opened allowing their daughter to be ‘posted’ through for a happy and costless conclusion. I have heard of this before but I’m unsure of the events/circumstances which may lead up to this happening.

I'm not impressed with the door lock on my caravan and as such have a spare key in a plastic tub taped somewhere on the underside. Better safe than sorry.

I think, Micky, it's something like the MH central locking thinks it’s been unlocked in error as no door has been opened so locks itself again. Opening a cab door should prevent it. We always make sure one of us has a key about our person plus we go as EM does just in case.

Perhaps that is why ours doesn’t relock, even if a door isn’t opened. I find it a bit annoying, as you have to be very careful as you put the key in your pocket that you don’t inadvertently press it, otherwise you could go out and the cab doors would be open. However, I suppose it does have the advantage that what is described above can’t happen.🤔

Thanks folk, it appears that Loki had worked his mischief. 🤪 Seems to be that if the keys are not ‘recognised’ as being in the cab area of the base vehicle it will lock down taking the hab door with it. Opening the cab doors on first entering seems to rectify this. Having that secreted hab key somewhere on the vehicle exterior as suggested up thread by a fellow poster is helpful reassurance and a solution should it happens me thinks !👍😁

All it needs is a basic driver's door key to let you in to get the fob job.👍🏻
