I have just read the recent reviews for the site and noted that the dog field is being converted to new pitches.  I wonder if the site has become busier due to the publicity that was given to the area when Mr Cummings visited it!  I have not stayed at this particular site but have stayed at the CC site, close by, a few years ago in late October as the CMHC site had closed for the year and I was on my way to Durham and wanted to break my journey.  The area and town are very nice places to visit (and Durham is lovely), but I admit that I had never actually heard of it before, until I saw it in the site directory as I am not that au fait with the North East. One of the great advantages of owning a caravan or motorhome is visiting places which you may not normally visit.

North East is lovely. Cummings’ in laws own Chillingham Castle, further up from Barnard Castle.

We spent a week in next door Weardale last year, cycling and walking and have spent some time stopping en route in various places in the vicinity of Teesdale. Always enjoyable. Lovely countryside, former industrialised places, some pretty small towns, plenty of history going back centuries, even the industrial history is interesting to us. So plenty to occupy oneself with.

Not entirely sure if there is a central theme to the OP. Dog Walk on site, Durham, BC?

Anyway a decent area to have a break (unless you are a dog in urgent need on the club site😱😂)

We've never stayed at BC but driven through it often, sometimes stopping and yes it is lovely as all the north East. so much history, not only the '1066' kind but industrial and just the living normal folk kind.

Try the roman wall! or see the new quayside.

It's amazing how things change in a few decades. All these are from the same viewpoint. I only took the first when I found the others. The third one is just so fascinating.

Barnard Castle is a pleasant little town and is worth a few days at the CMC site. Reasonably easy walk into the town, although up hill when you get to the Castle. One thing not to miss is the Bowes Museum, a short walk from the town centre but you could probably park a motorhome in the car park.

We found the volunteers at Raby Castle to be the most informative of any group at any historic house that we’ve visited in recent years so that’s worth a visit if in the area and open.

Not sure if Mr Cummings has made BC site any more popular, probably  “staycations” a more likely cause,  but the loss of dog walk on the club site made it less attractive to us. We were booked on the site mid May for a week until I noticed the announcement on the dog walk closure, which is an important consideration for us (or more importantly our Labrador!) We subsequently went to the CCC site just up the road, but it appeared that although the work on the new pitches hadn’t started, the dog field didn’t appear to be in use.

The area is one of our favourites as the local towns have a friendly charm. As well as BC, Middleton in Teesdale is worth a visit, as is the Bowlees visitor centre a bit further on, and of course High Force waterfall.

Raby is a lovely visit. we went to a huge Classic Car weekend with our MH a few years ago, had a good look around the Castle and gardens as well. It’s like Alnwick, full of centuries of history. Bowes Museum good as well. Another gem for anyone interested in history is Staindrop Church, Beaufort tombs in there.

North East is definitely in our top three places to live and visit, it’s got everything we love. And a lot less of what we don’t particularly enjoy😂
