The photo was not taken by me and I’ll not bury my head in the preverbal.

Hi, Are you saying that the photo was taken on a site?

Whatever the answer, and I know threads drift, I am struggling to see the point you are making??

Then read my explanation, you may wish not to agree but that’s okay. I just appreciate the connection between all aspects of the conundrum that is standards, expectations and cost. Oh, and a happy membership and that includes all of ‘us’. I’m pleased if the photo prompts thoughtful response as this is good and can assist understanding. Warts and all! And that phot is the worsts of those warts.

No need to be rude David, I don't do that to you? In any case I'm very happy thanks. Can't remember the last time I was sad as too much to do.

Btw I can't help it if the facts, as given by you, contradict and do not support your own written statementsmile

I have, and can’t see what it is you are trying to say hence the question.

Can you tell us where the picture, you seem so pleased with, was taken?
If not on a site I see no relevance however, even if it was I am surprised that anyone would think it worthy of posting, or for that matter even have it in their possession.

Please tell me what part of my written post you don’t understand! The image only serves to make the point that in the world of work the balance between staff moral, overheads and costs can have a direct influence on standards. Im sure wherever that photo was taken it was not meant to look like this so what went wrong? Was it just the users abuse?
I’m proud that our club has the highest standards of cleanliness as testament to the reviews and long may that continue, I can’t ever believe that staff would ever allow the like to happen but it is well worth remembering, what the worst could be and understand the whole picture that makes for site practices and our enjoyment.

Yes, Tinny an image I want rid, but sadly I have seen the likes but never on our sites! But that’s down to many factors being recognised and being carefully managed for all to continue enjoying!

That is the very reason I don’t tour ‘overthere’ MSF I use Hotels👍🏻. A timely reminder.

PS-I’m happy to pay more for better. Happier all round😊

But doesn’t justify a certain lack of judgement in posting it here!

"Please tell me what part of my written post you don’t understand!"

Micky, I am sure that to you it makes sense, but sadly not to me.

What I do get is that you seem unwilling to confirm that the photo that you have seen fit to use to illustrate whatever is your point, was taken on a campsite.

Yes, David, and likewise if the pre 8:00pm arrival or after stipulated arrival time is not of benefit then.........!
Many a business has gone down the pan or had serious issues due to oversight as to consequences. Dreadful though the worst case scenario is painted in this graphic image thankfully I have never seen it happening in the here and now. But you never know, it pays to keep a happy workforce and happy customers. Both equally important parts of a complex employment equation that many fail to recognise at their peril.

    Hi David,

To be honest I really don't know if mickey is for or against the OP and, as he says he did not take the picture-and I really do not understand why anyone would-its surprising that he chose to use it.

As you say one would simply move on if confronted with such but , outside of the poorly serviced French Autoroute Aires, have been lucky, it seems, not to have encountered anything similar.

So are you saying that site staff, understandably disgruntled with having to change their work patterns to accommodate one or two members, would be so upset that they would loose all interest and the end result would be as per your post?

That would be a heck of a leap, but as we are told that the club pay little attention to CT, and this is just one thread, maybe we will be OK for a while yet.

We can read on CT a myriad of reasons for not using Caravan Club sites (both directly operated and certificated independent) and going to commercial and municipal sites instead.  I use Caravan Club, and Camping Club, sites out of preference.

That preference is that I know in advance that they will be maintained and operated to a high standard. I pay the price of sites perhaps not being in exactly the spot I might choose, and a higher nightly cost.

First post so be gentle ... in fact I don't even have something to tow yet as its on order.

However surely for the amount of people that turn up later in the day or want to arrive after 8pm would it be possible to have a smaller area where you could park say 5 vehicles that can just be parked overnight and then in the morning when the site is open move them to a dedicated spot ? It could be operated on a first come first served basis

Strict rules would be you can sleep in your van/motohome but no setting up. Like th op I finish work at 5.30 so by the time i'm home it would restrict how far I could travel if I needed to arrive by 8pm.

Probably more about attracting tomorrow’s workforce. From what I see the present ‘lot’ are dedicated members who give of their time freely in pursuit of enjoyment and satisfaction knowing that the vast majority are reasonable and are not overly or unjustifiably demanding. Lots to be said for a happy and valued workforce. Rather than a leap of faith let’s have reasoned and carefully considered change if needed/desired, change which addresses all aspects it impacts upon.

To all of you caravaners who expect to arrive as and when you please. May I suggest you start your own club.

No need, it is already part and parcel of the Club if you rally. It is very rare to encounter restictions on late arrivals.

I think some of those Club Members (like the OP) who normally head off overseas are currently on a huge learning curve having to stay in UK.
Most are just happily and competently getting on with it.....others want to change things to what fits them, until they can once more cross the water, without a backward glance or a care about Sites over here. 😉

This whole thread seems like a mountain being made out of a molehill. In the almost 35 years (ignore my avatar), that I've been caravanning I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've seen the late night arrivals area being used by a caravan or motorhome. This suggests that, either, there are very few who arrive after 8.00pm or that the warden allows them to enter the site. Similarly, on CLs, I can only recall one instance of an outfit arriving after 8.00pm and that was due to a breakdown. If the 8.00pm arrival deadline was made later I'd like to bet there would still be very few who arrived 'late' by choice.

When I was still at work and we went away for a weekend we never went  more than about 50 miles from home, about 1½ hours drive. This gave us lots of scope, particularly with CLs. It was just nice to get away from the usual four walls and, back in the early days before mobiles, the phone!

When some very good friends of ours first worked for the cc they were before WTD booking  several members in at 2200 in the summer months,,,the same members had been able to arrive at about 1800when daylight was shorter ,the reasons given on most occasions "stopped for a meal to save having to cook when we arrived after setting up ",Or the light evenings means not having to rush to get ready before leaving home, or with the lighter evenings we do not need to leave work untill normal time and dash to get on the road

I'd summarise the posts as following:

    Facts:

    1. There is a desire for improved late night access expressed by contributors
    2. Non caravan club sites already provide this (so it is possible)
    3. Some CL sites provide this
    4. Examples exist where this is provided by APNR and presumably staffing

Members object for the following main reasons:

    1. Concern about additional costs
    2. life/work balance for wardens
    3. Noise impact of later arrival

    In my view

    1. the additional cost is unlikely to be high even with suitable recompense. Example additional staff/overtime.
    2. Burden may be reduced via technology/staffing. Compromise is needed between needs of members and staffing.
    3. This is a matter of compromise. Some members want silence at 8, some want access. Is 8 the best time?

I'm curious what if anything will be done.

Ample suggestions to booking club sites after 8 pm:

    1. book with another club

    2. don't book it's your problem

    3. "show deference, I only ever travelled 50 miles at the weekend"

     Thanks.

In three posts, you haven't moved on from the same comment.  I have said I made a mistake on the site definitions, but my points still stands and I'm pretty sure people understood where the restrictions applied.  I'm happy to say when I'm wrong and making a mistake doesn't invalidate the thrust of the argument.

All I can say is that is absolute garbage itself. There has been a minority of contributors who have expressed a wish for this. The vast majority of contributors cannot see any justification for it.

So, if just 1 person said "Brilliant Idea" you'd claim it as fact would you?

Those expressing such a wish and are regular contributors to this forum are people who by and large do not use Club sites very often and most of them wouldn't turn up after 8 pm either.
