Why is after 8 pm considered a 'late arrival'

Hi 303303, after being relatively happy members of this club for over 20 years (broken membership), we have not seen any change at all to the working hours of the diligent & splendid Wardens.

For many years, myself & my husband have wondered why a shift system as never been implemented .....

There are those of us who have & do indeed work shifts, (me being a former NHS Paramedic & my Hubby still working shifts) -  24/7 covered  as many places of work do, eg days, noons, nights, 12 hours, alternating, rotating, various start & finish times, not  Monday - Fri with weekends being irrelevant ... but all within the Working Time Directive.

Perhaps a major overhaul is needed with Wardens managing the site from say 6am - 10pm (possibly nights, where admin & cleaning duties could occur?)....New ideas & fresh working practices....

In our experience, disturbance in all forms from other members happens at all hours of the day & night anyway, eg car doors slamming after evenings out, engines running, dogs barking, noisy chatter, loud TVs/music, wastemasters trundling along, etc, etc, etc.

Just because someone arrives on site early afternoon doesn’t mean they’ll set up straight away - oftentimes, it could be late evening before all is complete.....

    Great post, thanks .....

Townsend Caravan Park has just been mentioned on Facebook. I thought I would check their arrivals policy:

Quote: Late arrivals after 9.00pm summertime may be asked to park in a holding area overnight.

It's really great that there are so many different sites with differing times for arrival and departure. It means people can choose what is right for them, rather than the club change to be like everyone else?

However, unless you are aware of caravan club certified sites that have a > 8 pm opening times on a Friday it is not clear to me how you can help, so I don't see the point in divulging my location.

303303, what has the opening times on a Friday of CL's got to do with your OP? All CL's that I have used, and there are many of those, are open from 12:00 noon or 13:00, even earlier occasionally, and are open for arrivals through out the day until late evening by arrangement.

Interesting concept. I work on a single couple site, are you suggesting that I work for 12 hours a day and my wife works the other? That’s 84 hours a week each over the 7 days a week we work, well above the 48 hour working time directive. Don’t think you’d get many takers for that rota!

Absolutely.  After all it is nothing but pure heresy to even think that the "club" perfection could be improved or be more accommodating towards its customers 😂😂😂.

It's before the watershed, so I don't mind explaining to you.

In simple terms, the original post comments on a lack of flexible opening times, particularly the 8 pm evening cut-off being restrictive.  I rhetorically question whether 8 pm is late.

The subsequent post comments that providing details of my location to members will not likely help them suggest sites for me (a kind offer), because after 8 pm caravan club restricts access by policy.

You state  'late evening by arrangement'  underlined for no particular reason.  Great show me a link to a caravan club certified site that allows late evening access by arrangement, ideally with a definition of late being after 8 pm.

Hi 303, So, as others have pointed out, you want the club to be flexible but do not seem prepared to be so yourself.

Good luck in your search but, without any give on your part, you may be in for frequent disappointments.

    Hi 303,

    Just had a look at the Salcombe site you mention. You can, using the ANPR, enter up to 1030 pm once on site but when first arriving;

Latest check-in is 8:15pm. If you arrive after 8:15pm and before 9:30pm at the absolute discretion of the Duty Warden, you may be refused access to your allocated pitch. You may be directed to park (Caravans & Motorhomes) in the Visitor parking area and you will be taken to your pitch after 9:00am the following morning.

What sort of flexibility do you require from a member who want to visit sites later but can't because of the late night policy (some sort of yoga position)?

From what I can see some people don't want the question to be asked, I feel like I've walked in on a convention for wardens.  Well I am asking and I'd like to know what can be done.

No days off either, Kev, and no shift payment enhancement because that would reflect in increased site fees and you know how people complain about them!

Sometimes I wonder if I’m living in a parallel universe😱

There isn't any link to CL's concerning their closing times. All one has to do is enquire with the owner up to what time they allow members to arrive. Their opening times are published on the club's websites site/app or/& the sites own web sites. Can't see what you are getting so stressed about.

How many times have I suggested you contact the club and put your points to them? I've lost count but what is clear is that you don’t really want an official answer when it’s sooo much more fun to wind folk up on here. You must think we're really stupid if you think we don’t see through your droning on🤣🤣🤣.

There is, it is in the blue hyperlink in my post - click on the word policy or if cautious on the internet ,search for caravan club rules and read the pdf with policy 1.a.

We now need a cross reference for the Salacombe site to the discussion(s) on "allocated pitches", but it is after 8pm and I'm already over the hours for my shift, so you lot can go off to the Late Night Drivells Area now.

Did I say that it was in any way DLM? I don't think so. One person's perfection and all that...

But who is to measure and define perfection? Isn't that up to the individual? I prefer to leave to him/her. hence my post saying it is a good thing that there are different sites and differing times to suit everyone. I don't imply the club is the best or the worst. Everyone should decide for themselves what they want.

    But that is not CLs!

I thought you'd been a member long enough to know the difference. Methinks you need to do some research😆

Club rules only apply to Club  sites, not CLs.   They set their own rules.

Discretion is very open to interpretation, when you telephone any site I would think I would not expect it to be "I finish work at 5pm then get caravan ready and then travel 150ml for a couple of nights

As a single couple site are you suggesting that you already work a 7 day week?

Indeed and the CLs I have been to have had flexible opening hours.  The caravan club certified sites, less so as per policy.

I'm just looking back in and you've really confused me now - CLs have flexible hours, caravan club certified sites less so ..... er ... aren't  "caravan club certified sites" CLs?  undecided

Yes we do 21 days on and then get 6 days off where a relief warden takes over. It works well for us.

Who would want a shift payment enhancement when as quoted by 303 we earn £20 per hour 🤣🤣🤣
