The only item I have ever been envious off was seen fitted in place of a jockey wheel in Spain:

    it was a mangle!  cool

quite common in Spain to see a very large condensing unit in the front locker of a caravan, one of those things you would normally hang on a wall to run your house air conditioning, Spaniards install them to run aircon in the caravan, hate to think what the nose down weight must be.undecided

We always take our breadmaker with us these days, must be at least 10 years since we gave up supermarket sliced bread!

We do occasionally buy baguettes and other speciality breads/rolls, but otherwise we only have home made.  Our machine is not heavy.

Earlier reference was made to provision of motorhome/caravan parking.  Tebay services do this. Today about 30% was occupied by solo cars. The same seems to apply to other services around the motorway network. Whether NT will place this development more effectively remains to be seen.

When it comes to size, it isn't just confined to motorhomes. There are some pretty big caravan rigs around. Perhaps it's too easy to be taken in by the gloss and glitz of a show, forgetting the practicalities whether motorhome or caravan. The consequence is just probably more noticeable in motorhome choice. Mine at 6.4 x 2.1 is quite modest in size and just fits on the drive. Even with a more spacious drive, I'd be unlikely to go bigger.

I am curious as to why anyone driving a solo car would park it in the motorhome/caravan parking area, unless all of the other car spaces were taken up.

When we were last there, all the car spaces looked filled and they were using the overspill area. So further to walk and it was raining. But it happens other places. It’s a mystery.😀.

At Norton Canes I have seen dog owners park in the caravan/motorhome spots because they are nearer to an area of grass where they exercise their dogs. Not saying they should but just putting forward one possibility.

    Back to the OPs question.

With our last MH we went down the road of having my small car converted so we could tow it behind on an A frame.

In the begining we were happy to do this having come from a caravan background. After a couple of years however we got fed up with it and they are not liked abroad.

We also towed our scooter on a trailer for a couple of years as that was easier when going to Spain.

The last few years of that MH we used it on its own with just our ebikes for getting around.

Having another form of transport while in the UK is always welcome especially now with Covid, I'm not a public transport fan at the best of times.

There are lots of reasons why folk want to tow a car those with big MHs find it handy in the UK.

A very noticeable and curious think we have noticed since being on this site, as expected being near to bus services, there has been one M/C with a car on a trailer, two maybe three cars being towed on an A frame, but numerous coming on with a car being driven separately by the OH, ,strange  ?

The only campers that have moved are two small PVCs that have single it seems woman owners

There could be many reasons. Perhaps they are going to be using it to visit elderly relatives. We will be doing similar in October, when we visit an aunt of mine. Generally we are happy to walk from site or use public transport. However, this would be impossible and there is no way we could get the MH near to where she lives.

JVB, tell me...are you the caravanner that takes a Wimbledon style Umpire's Chair with you so that you can see all the site activity and judge who is in a relationship or not?! laughingwink

So is that the mid-day score or are we on court till late?

No need,  with OH unable and also not willing to want to go off site and the caravan being it seems the only place where she feels she will not fall as there are ample things to hold on to, she and I have apartt from shopping , only had one other not very successful trip to Margate where she had childhood holidays. We are as near the disabled facilties as possible ,which happens to be on the entrance exit road, and with the lovely weather we are having there is no need for an umpires seat to watch the world go bysurprised

Ps it is also the pedestrian route to the site office and facilities so a very Good place to have as many do a chance to talk to otherscool

What does the gender of the MH-er matter?

Why is it strange to have a car driven separately? We did it a few times when we had the coachbuilt van and were travelling locally to an area with particularly narrow roads.

Anyway, whatever their reasons, it is entirely their business and most folk wouldn't even think it worth a mention.

We've often travelled with two cars for the very reason we can do separate things when we need to.

I love my family but the need to visit places like shopping centres, craft fairs, clothes shops... during holidays is just beyond me. As I tell them many times 'you do know we have these places at home?'

It seems unusual when most would do one or the other when owning a motor caravan. But then there nowt so strange as what some folk think is a. easy solution to not having a c/van combination so that there is someone to converse with on a journey

As it has been noted by not just us on this sitewink

PS  should not consider Hale as a short journey where one has come from  as they were stuck in traffic on Sunday for an hour on A30?and another two on the M5surprised

And from here are continuing their tour into Norfolkwink

but as you say but as usual exaggerated Some  may not think it unusualcool

Nothing is strange if it suits someone's purpose. It is only strange to those who cannot accept people have freedom of choice.

I assume you mean Hayle? Travel over the weekend after half term is bound to be fraught and roadworks have been publicised. It is the travellers who need to plan better.

Are you suggesting I have exaggerated? If so, you need to elaborate and make yourself clear instead of writing half sentences.

I like detective work. It’s only a theory, borne out by no real evidence, but I think a lot of big MHs are currently holidaying here, rather than elsewhere, and given the size of the MHs, and the fact that many tow a small car when they do go elsewhere, they are on Club Sites because CLs are more difficult to get on or pitch up on grass, but Club Sites are not always close to town, so they take the car!

It all makes sense, continental travellers adapting perfectly to having to stay here. No mystery at all. Just adaptation and choice. Even the single ones.....😂

It quite possible that is what is happening as most seem to be on the "unweildy" size for comfortable UK  usecool

It is just unusual to see so manysurprised

Where we are pitched nearly all the level white peg  hard stands have Larger Motor caravans and their transport for of site journies seem to be family size cars or SUVs

Well, SherlockDogalong has deduced that we are still enduring a global pandemic, some restrictions/reservations are prevelent, therefore there are a whole lot more rarely seen at this time of year MH outfits on UK roads and Sites at the moment🤔 Normally by now they have charged for the ferries and Chunnel and are usually touring around the Continent by early June......

But I could be wrong of course.....😁

I don’t disagree with that😁 It’s not restricted to MHs either, a lot of spangly new vans will flood the market as well once flights resume.

Mind, a good few will be back at the dealers having warranty work done as well methinks....

We saw lots of first timers out last year, spoke to a few as well. At least they were having fun, adapting and getting on with things, can’t fault that👍

One of our neighbours, who'd never been a caravanner before bought a big TA van and all the trimmings last year. In December he sold it and lost almost £10000. But, as he said, "we'd have normally spent that much on a family fortnight abroad in August"! surprised

But as you know there are them that admit when they are not quite right and there are them who are always right? but without the knowledge that some may be privy to and it is probably sour grapescool

I went the local caravan dealer yesterday and they did not have any new caravans for sale as they were still waiting for both Bailey and Coachman to deliver with no set dates from either manufacturer

The supply chain of many items seems to be slowing up. So many components now sourced from Asia and that I can see is going to be a potential challenge if not a problem. Read an article recently about Amazon and its dependence on Chinese products.  Where will it all end and will that end look like?
