Careful, this post is declined into attacks on people's choice of music.  Everyone is entitled to their own choice BUT there is no need to 'share' it with others who may not be so appreciative.

Amazing how this post has wondered from a question about pitching to music!

"Amazing how this post has wondered from a question about pitching to music!"

And whether it's more "manly" to dine inside or out! wink

It's the way threads tend to go on here, C, and at least it's all been good humoured! smile

Getting back on thread, perhaps that's the purpose of the massive awning - to accommodate the orchestra. wink

We have a large van, but like to eat outside when possible.

We have a "canopy with sides " type awning, so eat out in it  when the weather allows, otherwise we eat inside.

if really nice, and we have not put up the Canopy, we would put out the table and eat totally outside.

It all depends on the weather and how long we are staying at the site.  We do not bother with the awning for 3 nights or less.ŵ

"What I am always amazed to see is campervan owners ( typically) who sit outside wearing overcoats, bob caps etc for hours on end when any sensible person would sit inside their vehicle."

As for others I give the bobble hat a miss but as the saying goes "no such thing as bad weather , just the wrong clothing"

Key point, as many say, is we are all different and "sitting out" will be down to our preferences and tolerances.

For us when possible table and chairs are outside, if for a multitude of reasons, that's not best on any day we move into the awning.

Moving into the van is rare, we are talking Spring/Summer here, unless the temperature really drops.

Sitting outside, sun warm but not yet hot, croissants, jam a nice mango & passion fruit smoothie and freshly brewed coffee to hand is our idea of what being away in the van is about.

However, any good plan is adaptable so, having looked at the forecast for next week, on our first outing, I think there is a chance we will have all the above elements apart from the sun!

CY you are an obvious fan of Chinese Whisper's a 3.6m Awning has grown into a massive one and a person playing their personal music in a fashion that is and would not offend others has become an Orchestra.

No headphones for me now.  I spent too many decades wearing headphones trying to hear faint signals through the noise - but I can still hear the toaster pop up!

Only as a visitor on Resolution.

When I asked how many Polaris were on board, having seen the tubes with the red X on the graphic, I was told 'we can't tell you that' tongue-out

Helped to build it, and crawled round many a missile tube, but never go a chance to go to sea on board, unfortunately.

Just to close this out, we went away in June and again in July, visiting a total of 3 sites, of which one was a club site.  All were different in their pitching demands but equally all were accommodating of our inexperience and clearly explained what they wanted from us.  I was also a little bit chuffed that I reversed the van onto the club site pitch and got it with the rear offside corner mere millimetres from the peg. cool

I've had caravans for 50+ years. On their own they are so quick to pack up and go, it takes much longer with an awning, however - an awning has a massive advantage for the longer than one night stays.

I began my life with awnings with a full large awning, almost essential with kids, but they were hard work to put up and take down. On our own now, just two plus a dog, I continued with a full awning, until I looked at something smaller. We now use a 260 x 260 porch awning, which has enough space to dine out, leave muddy boots and wet clothes to dry. I wouldn't want to be without some sort of awning for these reasons.
