Arrival Times
Staying on a particular North Cornwall site that's well known it's shennagins in pitch selection. Not Criticizing the wardens allowing early arrivals on site but do take exception at watching them then walking all over peoples pitches and even knocking on our window to ask if we are leaving whilst we are still eating breakfast, unbelievable! Yes they were greated with a loud B OFF.

Are the wardens telling the early arrivals which pitches are due to be vacated that morning? If so, that's really not on. You could be there until 1200.
That sort of behaviour is what puts me off returning to that site irrespective of the glorious sunsets. 😒

The unedifying scrum at Trewethett Farm is best avoided by opting for an eco pitch. Better views of the glorious sunset too

Good luck with that! 🥴 Took us awhile to get out last weekend due to service point gridlock created by those leaving - add in loads of conflicting early arrivals and it’ll end in tears.

Bear in mind that JVB's "here" is not the site we're talking about🙄

I would call that bloody rude and make a point of staying until exactly 1200 or kick out time, as that is what you paid for.
Crossing occupied pitches is against club rules, some people just need educating.
its ok to let vans in early to prevent road blocks on narrow lanes ,but, lets face it if they are in the club, they should know the arrival times. early arrivals should be told to park up and wait in their vans until told otherwise or directed to an already empty pitch, hastling occupiers is a big NO NO.... but don't blame the wardens ...really?

I don’t think anyone is blaming the wardens.

I can't see things getting easier this year on some of the very popular sites. If CAMC made all arrivals at 1pm rather than some at 12pm it might help, we had to double check on our recent two site visit. First site 12 pm, second 1pm. Exceptions at Coniston and Edinburgh show that earlier arrivals can work too. I suppose much depends on staffing levels.

In some ways 1.00pm arrival could actually make things worse as it allows more people to enter the arrival buffer. I suspect the problem is people leaving the site and getting tangled up with arrivals even if they are getting off the site at midday. Might be better to insist people leave the site by 11.30am to avoid that but I suspect that wouldn't be popular either. Our frame of mind is that on the day of departure we leave as soon as we have had breakfast and put everything away. The only time we delay leaving is when we are moving to another site and ironically don't want to get there too early!!!

All deps by 1200. no arrivals until 1300 give all site staff no matter what the staffing levels are,,an undisturbed?lunch break
With the add cleaning because of covid at the service points and toilet blocks, it also takes longer in the mornings especially to fit what is needed to be done already so a 1hour undisturbed lunch is needed

Most of the busy sites put a departure time up on a board, this seems to work and leaves a space for arrivals. The worst situations are on sites where people pack up minutes before arrivals appear but this seems to be getting a bit better with both clubs.

Evening
I worked at the sunset site on 2 occasions, in 2010 and 2019. The last time arrivals walked the site to select a pitch and place a length of pipe over the pitch marker, returning to reception to declare the number and collect the barrier card. It worked well and was a fair system to prevent any scrum to blag those favoured front row spots. Probably different now, I've no idea.

The one and only time we went it was a case of walk around, choose your pitch and leave something, or someone, on it. People were running around with picnic chairs ready to bag a pitch.
That mayhem's not for us so we've not returned.

We stayed at the site a number of years ago. Will never go again as we were woken each morning by the movement of existing campers to the 'front row' pitches. We decided to leave a day early and were told to get a 'move on' by the wardens, even though we had paid for the next night and were leaving a full day Inc before 12!!!!

That’s an easy mistake to make. When we were tenting we often left in the late afternoon the day before our leaving date. If it meant that our rather large tent could be taken down dry. One time the owner had a go at us about leaving late and then walked off. However, came back to apologise a little later, when they realised their error.

I don't think that it is acceptable at all for a warden to ask/tell you to get a move on, unless of course you are moving after the site's departure time or if there is a specific reason to ask you to leave. If people were arriving early then it is them who should have been told to wait, not the people who are leaving before the allotted leaving time, so keeping within the Club's rules and in your case, a day before your leaving time!

We left Ferry Meadows at 11.55am last week, queue over the road to get into West Side booking in. Plenty of pitches left mind, so no issues.

The Club can make the site entry time later and later but that will only add to the bunching. On the other hand the Club site at Treamble Valley used to spread the load of arrivals by bringing in outfits from the waiting area as soon as pitches became available at breakfast time.

At FM the add barrier was put inas an extra deferent against the not infrequent attempted invasions ,and now when busy a queue is quite possible as your vehicle registration needs to be checked against the bookings ,when before it was possible to enter the site up to reception ,which has room for 8_10LVs
Ps quite a few have left this morning?

It does happen abroad David but most of the time it's because the site closes for lunch, frequent occurrence in all of the major countries we visit. One learns to either arrive early when there is no problem or arrive after the lunch, which can often extend to 3 hours and occasionally more, although they will stay open later than here.
We have mistimed it one a few occasions and often had lunch and walked to the nearest bar or bakery for a drink or dessert.

Happens in Italy too, there are set arrival and departure times on the major sites.
