Saint Greta would have more credibility if she stood in front of the Chinese Govt lecturing them on their coal fired power stations they continue to build. And the 30 coal fired power stations the Bangladeshi govt approved last year. I wonder what their response would be? And in the meantime we are supposed to follow the teachings of miss little ray of gloom? Or try telling the British holidaying customers of a bar in Spain they should be at home in the pouring rain on a beach in Cleethorpes or wherever. A Glasgow kiss would be the likely response.

TDA wrote "It’s the sheer number of humans on this planet that will be its downfall one way or another."

That is, indeed, the elephant in the room. In the last fifty years, the population of China has doubled and India's has trebled. Ours has gone up by 35% although I think a lot of that has been immigration. Vasectomies anyone?

Yes whether it's world population or bugs in a Petri dish both have finite resources. The extinction point is determined by nutrition, evolution, species competition, environment, natural disaster or disease. Have the bugs just fired a warning shot?

I'm still planning our next week away 😉

Only in the sense that information the club can provide as a reference could be trusted and eliminate any risk of fake news from elsewhere. It would be good that we all sing from the same hymn sheet as it's a divisive subject.

I guess I would if I could - heating the van, heating water, running the fridge, entertainment and cooking a meal all adds up the amps but would make us think more - assuming a 16A supply is widely available as a minimum.

The club magazine is not to be trusted 100% if that's what you mean. It frequently contains factual errors.

As for singing from the same hymn sheet, why should we? We are individuals with different thoughts and views. We're not going to toe any particular party line simply because the club tells us to. We are free thinkers and make up our own minds.

I agree with you but make up your mind on the correct facts and not on the Donald Trump view, for example. There may be a time coming where we have to defend our LV activities and should have an informed view and well constructed answers.

Change can be good and is necessary but be prepared if you want to get the best out of it and not be dictated to.

There's no chance I'll be dictated to, as I already implied. Neither will I take my info from just one source, whether it be the club or DT. All have their own agendas.

It's common sense to do ones own research to attain a balanced view as any sensible person surely would.

None of us want LVing to become as socially unacceptable as driving a large 4x4 in Chelsea. I could imagine a day when I arrive on site having towed my outfit with an affordable electric car capable of 300 miles when towing, plug in to the site ground source heat pump for my heating and cook on my electric cooker using solar or wind powered electric stored on site with Tesla's batteries. The technology is there now but unaffordable to the majority. We may need to just bite the bullet and invest. The club can make a.stsrt by installing solar for hot water and manufacturers can take a lead in designing in elements. As with vehicle technology it may start with higher end items and filter down. We are a pretty obvious outfit rowing on the road, we don't want to be seen as polluters.

Thanks for all your comments, I'm sure this discussion will continue over the years to come. It's good to get views and understand where we'd like to go with our interests.

it all depends on whose correct facts you wish to follow. There are also plenty of inconvenient truths about alleged man made global warming the Greta religionists ignore too. Sun spot activity and natural warming/cooling cycle being just two. And the last time i looked it wasn't Trump building coal fired power stations...... this will turn out to be the biggest contrick the human race ever pulled on itself and future generations will look back in wonderment how we fell for it, enthusing over EV's/battery power with their alleged green credentials all while stripping the sea bed and creating toxic pollution from the appalling conditions from mining in 3rd world countries for of valuable minerals to manufacture the batteries because coal mining and oil drilling is bad for the planet..... you really can't make this stuff up.

Going back to the OP, the lady in question also has some suspect mathematics.

I seem to recall that she went from London to New York by sailing boat shouting about how green her travelling was.  Sadly she did not realise that 2 crew men had to fly back home and two more flew out to retrieve the yacht.

She could have flown out there at the cost of one flight as apposed to four!

    What a silly girl!

But they didn't shoot themselves in the foot with a climate change dogma that borders on insanity as they are now, the earth has a great propensity to naturally recover from anything we can throw at it.

If you get rid of humans, I have absolutely no doubt that the World might recover. But that’s not going to happen. However, the human race has a propensity (sadly) for squabbling and fighting over land, resources, wealth, power, “my beliefs are better than your beliefs”, and every other peculiarity that sustains humankind, and added up together, it sort of keeps the population in check one way or another. It’s a nice life, if like most of us, you have a good standard of living, but it’s a somewhat miserable existence eked out in some other places where conflict, disease, poverty, discrimination are the norm.

What we are experiencing at the moment is a 21st Century Black Death, clever scientists, fast research has saved most of us, but it’s going to be a longer drawn out process than most will think, and it’s not over by any means yet.

I agree Rocky 2 buckets and am sure you do that It is Greta and XR who are against progress and wish to turn back the clock. How is it progress to price/tax/ban travel to a level such only the wealthy can afford a foreign holiday and a new car? You cannot put the corks of cheap foreign travel and ease of car ownership back in the bottle. When you start restricting and taking away freedoms you lead to unrest and revolt. How is it progressive to have energy costs so high (to pay for the ‘greening’ agenda) more and more people are driven into energy poverty? How is it progress to legislate against traditional heavy industry such poeple will loose their jobs in steel making while China falls about laughing all the way to controlling our economy while they sell us their steel at inflated prices? How short memories are when all the liberal Gairdian facebook mirror looking progressives were not too long ago haranguing the Conservatives for closing the mines. Now look at the reaction from the same media over the planned coal mine in Cumbria!!

I can afford what I like, plus my energy is the cheapest it’s Been for a decade FC🤷🏻‍♂️. I find most of your points way off beam I’m afraid. The World changes we evolve to even greater things.

China Btw are world leaders in greening, the laughter you hear is them enjoying celebrating the fruits of leading the World in EV production & Solar power & panels. It’s coming whether you support it or not, jump aboard the Green train or find yourself walking home👍🏻

Seems to me that Greta and fellow campaigners want technological progress, not to reverse it.
True enough too many corks are out of too many bottles, and there are so many interrelated issues it's probably a task too complex now to unravel them, but she, David Attenburgh, and co, are right in that if we don't make serious change, life for our grandchildren is going to be a lot nastier. Since they'll hopefully have more years to live now than most of us here, I reckon they have some right to want things better.
It was a Green party spokesperson, of all people, who made the point recently on a radio discussion that doing what we can as individuals is well and good, but of little effect without serious structural change at governmental level.
As long as aviation fuel is subsidised to current levels, for example, of course people will take cheap holidays flights. Only when  serious investment goes into new technology... progress... does the price comes down for people to start buying into it enough to make a difference.
But thank goodness there are the Greta Thunbergs, and David Attenburghs, because they are raising awareness, and this discussion here probably wouldn't happen without them.
Oh yes, and since the club is heavily sponsored by diesel car makers, I can't see them really pushing too hard to lead the way in green matters just yet.

No Rocky, the reason they are laughing is because they are still utilising 3000 coal mines to produce all the so called green stuff that the west are clamouring to buy.

I know the Club have recently appointed a Sustainability Advisor, who will be concerned with all things 'green'.  It will be interesting to see what changes come into effect in the future as a result of this appointment.

I know it's only a small point, but at the moment I am on a Caravan & Camping Club Site.  Interestingly and unusually, unlike CAMC sites I have been on recently, here, there is no recycling at all.  That really surprised me.

There is no recycling on this cc site ,as it is all done at the refuse depot, and when on sites that do , it is very noticeable that site users seem not to bother recycling , as even when all the bins are marked many seem to put all their rubbish,in any binundecided
