Toilet blocks in Wales
Is there any idea as to when toilet blocks will be open in Wales? Other indoor activities, namely gyms will be open from Monday. I can't believe the toilets are not open there. In any case I can use the toilet in a Supermarket and not supply any details as to who I am. Surely a touring park is considerably safer. And we've the lowest COVID rate in the UK.
The best defence against Covid is soap and water, so we're told. How many caravans leave their hot water on all the time to allow frequent hand washing?

I think you need to address your questions to the Welsh Assembly.
As for hot water on all the time, yes, I do. It's controlled by the thermostat so it's not burning fuel continuously. I'm a believer in letting the thermostat do its job rather than heating from cold. The need for frequent hand washing in your own van is there whether you use your own facilities or those on site. Can you leave the facility block without touching a door?

We always leave ours on also. We also keep it heating until we set off, it means we have hot water for washing hands and cups / plates, if we stop on route.
However, I agree it is strange if the authorities are not allowing at least toilets to open, given what else will be allowed from Monday.

The main issue is that we've got a sub 6m motorhome. There's a limit to what can be fitted in. Also we're keen cyclists and we will have 10 sets of cycle kit that will need washing. Laundry's are shut too.
I've reshuffled my bookings so we don't get to Wales until after 17 May. Hopefully everything will be open by then otherwise we will not be using Welsh sites for the foreseeable future.

Several of us have vans of that size and we manage. You're not unique.

This is what devolution is about. "'The Senedd" makes some of its own decisions. I am sure the needs of an individual camper does not count. You have to take it as it is. If facilities are open post May 17 then come. In the meantime find an area that meets your requirements .Simples.

If you are worried about having to do laundry then have a look at the Collapsible washing Machine made by Clarsen and currently being sold by Coopersof Stortford. Folded it measures 38x38x25cms, 120W.
ps We tend to leave our hot water on all the time during the day as well.

We have a 5.5 metre motorhome that we share with a big dog. We too are keen cyclists, and have just returned from five days of cycling around. Somehow, despite never venturing anywhere near a facilities block we coped. Suggest don’t go commando under your padded shorts, then they will do a couple of days😂 It’s all about compromise👍Lycra dries easily overnight, honest.

I don't understand why people are so reluctant to use the facilities in their own vans. I'm sure if they could many would choose to buy a bed in a box to tow and forget the rest ( provided there was a wall mounted TV and a satellite dish of course).
I have an aversion to sharing public toilets at the best of times due to seeing how many don't bother to wash their hands after using the loo.

I wonder how many buy big vans with massive end bathrooms but only use the bathroom for No 1's during the night.

what van do you have? others with similar may have some storage tips.
balancing all ones different requirements in a small van is always going to be a tricky one...
if you want a nice lounge, its tricky to carry bikes and gear, except perhaps outside the van, which isnt always desirable.
of course, you can change the focus and get a great panel van with large rear internal storage and a full fixed bed, but the compromise would be at the other end with a smaller lounge.
touring predominantly in the sunshine might swing it for good storage and small lounge as most lounging, eating would be outside....
in Wales?....perhaps not.
if you are struggling with storing cycling clothes, i guess a waning machine wont be easily doable?😉

AD, don't waste your money. I tried one of these machines when we bought the MH, they are rubbish. Only small loads, the clothes get all tangled up, it takes you ages to untangle them and the spin is rubbish I can wring the clothes out better.
When my twin needs replacing I will get another one, I know they are bulky but it does a great job of washing and spinning.
To be honest I use the spin more than the wash as I'm still happy to do hand washing of small items, quick spin and out on the line.

Well the OP will be happy as the toilet blocks including showers will be open from next Monday (17th.) in Wales.
All of those smelly people who haven't had a shower and refuse to use their own facilities can form an orderly queue on Monday morning.

I wonder how big a market there would be for vans built without bathrooms. It would make them more nickable by certain segments of society though.
