Flying the flag

Here we go  then   another whinge coming up  .  . May not be an official flag flying from the wardens camp post  but given the passing of  Prince Philip  would not a union flag at half mast be a tad more appropriate than the  smiley face one   . Good grief standards and protocol have slipped to a nadir .

Not sure I understand your post, are you commenting on the warden or another member on site? The flag pole on the site we are currently on is flying the Union flag at half mast.

It’s all about choice, some are not Royalty minded. A lot of loved folk pass on over time I don’t think everyone of them should be honoured-individual choice for individuals. A smiley face is inclusive of everyone including Children.

A smiley face flag even at half mast  at this time is disrepctfull by any one ,as why a "smiley face?" ,but then  by comments  it seems quite acceptable for some these days

The Union flag is flying on our local church and public buildings as on our local club site

The OP says "May not be an official flag flying from the wardens camp post..." so I assume this is a flag flown from a caravan/MH. There could be any number of reasons for this including thoughtlessness. I wonder if the OP has discussed it with the flag flyer? 🤔

The OP stated....flag flying from the wardens camp post....so it doesn't sound like a caravan or motorhome owners flag.

    Morning

We all had the brief after the sad news last week that any site with a flag pole is requested to fly an appropriate flag at half mast until after the funeral. Note, that was a request not an instruction.

What about the words "May not be..."? They completely change the sense of the phrase from your interpretation.

It is not the flag but its position that denotes the mark of respect, it could be 'Mickey Mouse' flying in the wind.

Not sure many would see it that way if they had MM at half mast on Buckingham Palace. I know he made the odd ill considered comment but I think that would be a step too far.

The "May not be" refers to the flag not the flag pole.

I am not Royalty minded, but due to the link with the club I think it is respectful and acceptable that a site office flag be flown at 1/2 mast.

I do not however believe any member should be allowed to fly any flag on site. ie they should be banned.

This might seem a bit radical, but where do you draw the line?

My view is that the Flag of most countries particularly ours(& the USA) has been hijacked by ‘patriots’ which is interchangeable with ‘right wing’ fascists. So-“a bit less flag waving” certainly would be a good thing👍🏻

A request? in such circumstances would take it to be(an instruction) when there was respect for such a person, by the whole of of all nations of the UKsurprised

It's ambiguous and in the eye of the reader. The OP needs to clarify.

Even if it is the warden flying the flag, RR could have words with him and say he finds it disrespectful.

I can find a whole lot more than insensitive or sensitive flag waving to moan about with this country at the moment. I hope everything goes well on Saturday for the Queen and her family.

I agree with your last statement but I cant see any ambiguity in the OPs statement "May not be an official flag flying from the wardens camp post"

As long as they are aware of which way up to fly  the union flag ,would not want to give them another problemwink

As I said, it's in the eye of the reader and I am not the only person to find it ambiguous.

WTG has summed it up perfectly.

Worse things are happening at the present time than the club flying it's flags at half mast.

PS If anyone interested why flags at flown at half mast at such times just ask.

I wouldn’t classify the National Flag being flown at half mast as a mark of respect, flag waving. National and other flags are certainly misused by some groups but that’s an entirely different matter.

SL-I didn’t classify it I merely mentioned it👍🏻. Plus it can’t be a different matter as the linking of it prompted my post. you disagree with me, no worries😊. To some tradition plays a big part in their lives, I get that but I’m not one of them I prefer to evolve my attitude as our world changes. Sticking to the way it’s always been is never a good thing unless doing so adds to the general good. I noticed during the insurrection in the USA there was a lot of flags being used to identify the rioters-just a point.

Its the flag pole that is on the assistant wardens compound       there is no  flag pole on.the site  headquarters  . Might be their own personal flagpole    but nevertheless     the acid smiley face and rainbow wind flare   flying this week  and on the day of Prince Philips  funeral  is either i one of blissful ignorance or we fly only want we want we too   .. Anyway    its bad form allround   like i said on my original post      this marks a new low in the caravan club .
