Yes I can understand that, as we were taught

Judgement comes from experience, experience comes from bad judgements.

Our experience in Start Bay last year was unpleasant, the edge of the nature reserve had been used as a toilet facility. I can't blame the non compliant overnighting motorhomers for this as they probably had their own facilities but alongside them were vans and cars. Obviously attracted by the principle of "if they can do it so can we."

I don't consider it an age issue, I would say the majority were middle aged and older.

This is only one example of many we've seen.

    The flocking instinct is strong.

Possibly like us they hope that they will have access to extra camping sites through the membership.  I joined C&CC for their sites and CS's and MCC for their CL's and rally programme.  We also belong to a number of other organisations that enable us to have more camping choice in the UK.  Some of those joined recently will be dumped when the annual renewal comes up assuming OS travel is back.

I have seen similar in Spain at the edge of a Nature Reserve but this time it was definitely down to motorhome owners. It is incidents like that above as why there is a need for designated stopping places for motorhomes in the UK and tougher action against transgressors who ever they may be. This is happening in Spain  and Scotland and it should happen in the rest of the UK.

Peedee, we were staying on the C&CC site, ten minutes walk from the area I mentioned. The site wasn't full, there were cheap non EHU pitches available, not main season so not full price. Not far away, a CAMC and another C&CC site and CLs.. Is it price that is putting people off, having to be a member for a lower pitch price? I don't know, but I think some are swerving any sort of payment except a car park fee.

It’s slow PD, but I think it will happen. But what needs to go alongside it is some method of discouraging the bad minority, without painting all tourers as not wanted.
We love to pull up on a remoter beach side, spend the day on the beach, use our MH as a cafe, onboard loo, have a meal, watch the sun go down. But then we tootle off to a nearby little Site for around a tenner a night, having hurt no one or the environment, and actually give something back to a local kind enough to provide somewhere safe and nice to park up. Same in forests and moorlands as well. It’s perfectly doable, be it as a Club Member or not.

I don’t think it’s an age thing either, we have seen all ages abusing areas, and all ages touring responsibly. It’s more difficult if you don’t have a smaller outfit, or require facilities to hook up to, but nearly forty years of touring UK has dispelled any myths and suppositions about it being difficult.

Its a while since I was at Start Bay but I don't recall there being any public toilets along its length. Even for day trippers in cars that could prove difficult if I am correct.

As posted you do seem to be in a very odd world without the real experiance of the University of Life ,that teaches how real life is ,

Try it if  you want to see beyond your strange outlook on what real life is like cool

PS please also explain where i have had a go at in your words MOHO what ever that is ?,it is normally the owners who are the problems with their purchasessurprised

There are toilets at Slapton Sands adjacent to the main car park and more at the Strete Gate end and also at the Torcross end by the Tank.

It only seems that those from overseas only those from the Nerherlands tend to belong to either of the two clubs ,many tend to be able to find places to stay in this country without joining cool

The middle section of the  road was washed away in recent times and the toilets have not been replaced. There is the public car park at Torcross away from the beach and at the naturist end  (Strete.) Vans etc tend to head for the middle section, without facilities unfortunately. This section contains the American Exercise Tiger D Day memorial.

I think a few portaloos would have improved the present situation but nothing has been done. No overnight camping is allowed but this is  ignored.

My final word, I don't think local authorities should have to pick up the tab for campers who don't choose to use sites or ignore requests not to park overnight. But I've no idea how you can educate people to respect their surroundings other than that we should all share these things responsibly.

I hope you are right in that the market will be flooded by those who have not really gone into LV ownership, but it was/is the new thing to try,.

we are away from next monday for about three weeks on several sites in East Anglia on "catch ups"  ,it is also to test if we can cope with OH on a Buggy and we can transport it .

If not it may well bring forward a PVC purchase ,unless we wait for your predictionsurprised

But as I may have mentioned before ,this club have spent large amounts of money to assist those who are new to M/Cs to use service points specific for their usesurprised

and the largest it seems users of club sites with M/Cs do as caravanerswink

Very few it seems do not need other club site facilitiesundecided

Thanks TW, yes I spotted them on Google maps, they were definitely not there when I was last there which was over 10 years ago and I seem to remember the tank was in the middle of the sands not at the end but why on earth they would want to move it, goodness knows. Vandalism? A more secure location? Perhaps my memory is just playing tricks?

So why are people dumping waste elsewhere?

I tell you what JV, I’ve asked you two(2) questions up to now & you’ve answered neither of them. If you answer mine I’ll answer yours-I can’t be fairer than that👍🏻

PS-it’s bad form to ask a question in answer to a question. I’m surprised the university of life didn’t teach you that, a tad more think-think & less wink-wink is called for🤷🏻‍♂️☹️

A difficult one compounded by the fact local councils often don't get the income from public parking but have to police it and maintain the associated toilet facilities.

I don’t recall the tank ever being anywhere other than where it is now, PD. I can’t envisage it ever being in the middle of the sands as the sea frequently sweeps over the beach and has decimated the road beyond on several occasions.

I could swear the toilets have existed by the main car park for longer than 10 years but.......

"no access to facilities block" interesting one CY, how are you going to police this particular item, make all facilities blocks key access, if you dont I can see folk wandering down from whatever is provided outside the main barrier to the facilities block, wardens not on duty 24x7 ?

Provision of a "dump and fill" service for a few quid would be nice too

if this is outside the main barrier who will police this also, what would stop a MH pulling in doing whatever and driving off ? I think somewhere on this post a warden had a MH simply drive on site and fill up and thought that was ok , saw one today parked outside the public loo's outside tap hose attached and even had the cheek to put a cable tie around the on/off, it was one of those push type designed for people to simply wash off the sand or fill up a dog bowl, had probably dumped his cassette down the toilet which i guess is preferable to throwing it in the sea. undecided

A positive suggestion CY and I respect your idea - but the motorhomers I know don't want to be tied to a Club dictating arrival and departure times in that way - and it's a pound to a penny that the Club would introduce advance booking, insist on 3 metre spacing, and turn away non members. That's not freedom.  I have a friend with a VW Camper who is going fishing this weekend - he says he will just find a spot by the lake. He will probably fish until dark and have a lie-in next morning without a warden timing him out on the dot of 10 a.m

It was 2006 when I was last there and looking at the photos I took then the tank has not moved and there is a toilet block in the car park by the tank at the Torcross end. My memory was playing tricks with respect to the tank but there is no sign of a toilet block at the car park in the middle of the sands.

I do remember the access road past Blackpool Sands being narrow for an "A" road which put me off further visits.
