Alde 3020 Problems

We have just had an issue with our Alde 3020 fitted in a 2016 Bailey Cadiz, which used a 6kg bottle of gas in two days. We’re using the shower for the first time due to Covid-19 restrictions & thought it may be due to this. A further two bottles & four days later, we called out a caravan maintenance guy. He advised no leaks & suggested a new burner which is now on order, but he did say we could still use the boiler on 230v. The heating & water were fine all day and I dropped the thermostat to 19 for the night. However the next morning the van was very cold (10c) & I noticed that the little plug symbol had disappeared from the Home Screen (pic 1, J). I always prioritise 230v & on the guys advice have tapped the green flame icon (to blue) (pic 2) so the boiler would will not call on gas at anytime. There is power coming to the boiler & everything else on 230v is working, just no heating or hot water. I have left the keys with the engineer to check this out & returned home (it’s been like winter in Wales!). Has anyone else experienced this? I’ll note any advice as it feels expensive.

If you were just on gas for heat and hot water day and night? with ambient outside temperature of 5-10C sounds about right gas consumption to me. Especially if you're +19C at night.

The 240v issue could be a fuse or breaker. I would get gas leak check but hold off on new burner until proven.

One Easter we were in a blizzard and sub zero, used about a 6 kgbottle in 24hrs.

Max consumption of 3020 is 405g/hr so your consumption is entirely feasible!

We had the same fault and after looking thro You tube found a video that explained what the fault was.

On the PCB (mother board) a compoent had failed and following the video after buying a pair of small (approx 1") and connecting a clip to bypass the component, it worked fine and had it repaired when back home.

The only suggestion Alde will make is to buy a new board.

Using lots of gas in a caravan heating system in the present ambient temperatures, if running at 19 C and over for 24 hours, is what to expect.

If additionally on an EHU, with the 3020 you only get a 3kW contribution. Clearly your temperature ask, is requiring a lot more.

It is exceedingly worrying some caravan maintenance man diagnosed it as needing a new burner.

If the burner used excessive gas the outcome would be the Alde boiling off the fluid, filling the van with "steam" [more correctly water vapour], and making a lot of noise and spitting in the process.

I would contact someone with more competence in the Alde system before jumping to any conclusions, none better and more willing to help than Alde UK themselves.

We went away for Easter in previous years and was freezing.  We had just stopped our van and it had the same Alde heating as yours.  We needed to use both elec and gas.  We have a large Safefil gas bottle and I reckon for a long weekend we used 3/4 of the bottle!  However, the van was beautifully warm!  So I would say the usage is normal and fits with what I have used since.

I find in really cold weather the Alde works well using both gas and electric.  I had a,ready had a Safefil bottle for a few years but it has really come into its own now as I don’t worry about using the gas, especially as my wife likes it to be warm fairly instantly.

if you have an LPG garage somewhere close it might be something to think about.  I’ve just bought another small one for my BBQ which I will double as a spare for the van on exceptionally cold periods

cant help re the other problem but often doing a hard reset (never had to do myself) apparently sorts a lot of issues.  I have found the Alde heating good but the controls really finicky at times
