Feeling let down!
We had booked a touring pitch and a tent pitch at Cayton Village, Scarborough for May half term. A chance to get away with the family for the first time in ages. Got a call from the site Manager this morning to say that the tent pitches weren't going to be available this year! We are now frantically looking for an alternative club site or buy/rent a huge awning (Size 15)!! Any suggestions?

Strange that tent pitches won’t be available once facilities open up, but best check out other private Sites in area, and see if they are allowing tents in after 14th May, assuming all goes well and facilities can re open. We did see lots of tents with their own toilet tent alongside when out last year.

Heard someone on Radio4 yesterday, sorry can't remember programme, who bought new to them site in Yorkshire near to their Bolton abbey campsite. Huge camping field beautifully mowed as not had tents on. Opening and they've hired posh bathrooms for each pitch. Sorry can't give more details. Might be worth a search, I'm just off out with the dog but might try later.

I think it will be Catgill Farm Bakers.......

Each camping hook up pitch has its own loo and bathroom.

I had a look at their website out of interest, but they don't accept caravans or motorhomes at all. Only small campervans which are less than 4.9m in length, from their website:
Our camping pitches are suitable for tents, trailer tents and small campervans. We do not accept caravans or motorhomes. Campervans must be shorter than 4.9m and have a steel body.

Back in from dog walk, various interruptions and dinner.
That's the one, I wanted to write cat or cow seemed to be in the name., thanks takethedogalong.
I do hope that it might be useful, but didn't know about limited size for 'Van's. Hopefully the OP will check back and let us know how they get on.
Thanks ABM, it was WATO, I knew it had a woman interviewer, The Today programme had 2 lady presenters yesterday and You and Yours was too, taking over the world! 🤣😱🙈🤐

Can i suggest when the sites reopen on Monday you contact the site staff at Bridlington club site and explain what has happened ,with your booked tent pitch at Cayton Village ,they have most tent pitches vacant and some caravan pitches vacant in May, just a suggestion as "it pays to talk"

Would it be too expensive to have one of the new hire static units at Cayton Bay?

Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas. All sites in the area are booked up as it's half term and the first school hols after the easing of lockdown. Our plan is now to keep our caravan pitch booking and buy a new full awning so the family can sleep in that!

Thanks for all the advice! We need an awning size 15 (1005 cm). Busy looking at the moment. We know it's an expensive solution but our grandsons are so looking forward to the holiday it will be worth it. We can always sell it on afterwards!

I don’t know if you can still get them, but at one time you could awnings with bedroom type extensions, so camp beds could be left out in the day, the rest of the awning used for daily living. Somewhere like Towsure or CCC might do something, they had a huge selection of awnings in when we called last year. Not sure where you live, but Sheffield has a big Towsure.

Yes you can still get them, they replace and zip into one of the doors.
Another way round, which we did once, is to get a small pop up tent and have that up inside the awning. You do lose some space but it achieves the same result.

I don't think that you will need to buy an awning just for this trip.
On page 639 of the current handbook in Section 6 referring to awning pitches it states:
"You may also put up a tent for extra sleeping accommodation.......but please keep them within your pitch area".Presumably you already have a tent so as long as it fits within the space (allowing for the requisite space between units) you should be OK. Once the site re-opens it would be worth checking with the warden.
