UK staycation boom predicted

I know we have been round this block before, our LA did just that, ok only i think 6 or 8 pay and display, are they used, only as a last resort, now the LA have spent the winter months concreting in 2ft posts on all grass verges etc to stop MH's using them as campsites, all carparks have been fitted with height barriers where possible and we now have a team of enforcers doing the rounds checking for illegals, and who pays for all of this, the local community , and i fear as MH's become more and more popular and are sold/leased to people who have never done camping of any sort ever, the situation will only get worse

If the 6 to 8 pay and display slots are still available and can be used overnight then the LA have done the right thing. Presumably the income from the slots contributes to the increased costs Without these the LA wil have spent money for no reward..

Surely the problem is that people who don't want to use a campsite, a quick check shows that none of them are what I call and easy walk to the beach especially if you have any disabilities. Because the car park is closed overnight (I fully take on Peedee's thoughts about it being privately owned) the only choice is to park along the road. They are perfectly entitled to do this unless a prohibition is in place. It seems to me is that whilst areas of the country are happy to accept the tourist pound it is done begrudgingly which prevents common sense looking for alternative solutions is thin on the ground? To me that large car park could have a small section for motorhomes, both day and night, controlled by a separate barrier system. Lots of campsites in France have this system. £10 for 24 hours would soon mount up.

Don’t be shocked JV it happens every year👍🏻

I so long for the days where all those who go overseas, however they do it, and where those driven by desperation to try camping of any kind will be able to head off this island again. Leaving those who love it here a bit more peace and tranquillity...............t’aint going to happen this year though, it will be sharpen elbows, mask up and in we go......😂

When you consider how many P&R sites have height barriers, it is an indication of the prevailing mindset that have a tendency to force motorhomes into "Flying Dutchman" mode rather than perceiving the need and pondering how to meet it.

The Cliff top car park at Cromer has height barriers which are open during the time the car park is open ,
Because of those who have no respect for others they are closed out side those hours ,that being the main reason more height barriers are being installed at carpark entrances and as Ruffs posted bollards on grass verges ,
Most of our open spaces in this area now have ditches to discourage use by such people

It’s predicted that sea levels in the South of England will rise in 2022.
Its nothing to do with global warming but the sheer weight of all the caravans, MHs and trailers that will be parked up at the ports causing a tilt in their desperate rush to find somewhere peaceful!

Apparently there is a geological theory, all the folk from the West coast amassing on the East coast leading to-‘Sentient Heave Initiable Tilt’. First expounded by Professor Freud Ian Sleepe. Strange but true🤷🏻♂️👍🏻

Think I experienced ‘Sentient Heave’ in the Bay of Biscay.

I've always been of the mindset that it's my choice to drive a larger than average vehicle and I don't expect others to make provision for my personal choices. If height barriers are in place it's for a reason so I go elsewhere. Strange, I know, but I see it as my problem and not one other people need to solve for me. 🤷♂️

You could be one of the very few ,L/V owners who seem to understand what is involved with ownership ,rather than what seems the majority, it is others responsibility to cater for my choice?,and cannot see that in the real world things are not that easy or simple

Thankyou, it’s good to know I’m not the only amateur geologist on CT. it gives folk an insight into my nickname👍🏻

JV, a nickname shortens the name as in-Rocky to Rocks, see how it works?👍🏻. Happy to help😊

Wow, JV, you agree with me. Should I be worried?😀
My view of life as a whole is that it's what I make it and whatever my decisions are, I live with the consequences. I never expect others to bend to accommodate my needs but I work around any obstacles in my way. Therefore, in the case of my MH, I live with any constraints it imposes without expecting special treatment.

But the perceived need by who? Is it the needs of MHs or the needs of local residents who will fund theses needs.
If I were a local resident why would I want public money spent on supplying MHs with a free/cheap place to stay?

What is the difference between a height barrier and one that raises to allow entry? Both do the same job of restricing entry. Car parks that charge could equally be fitted with ANPR barriers that automatically lift to allow entry but wont let you out until you have paid at the machine with a card. There are Aires in France which employ such barriers and operate quiet sucessfully.

But these are car parks for day use and not aires for overnight camping use?
If one chooses a MH for touring then don't expect special treatment just because one wants a cheap stay funded by local funds?
3 -
I'd expect you to agree with me more often in that case👍

I've no doubt they do operate successfully in places where the car park operator is willing to accept certain vehicles, PD, but if he's not willing, that's all there is to it. It's their choice.

As Advised by our county police team who seem to be the point of contact for ANPR country wide (not sure UK wide)until all ANPR cameras are checked for accuracy , which is possible in the near future (road pricing?) they cannot be used in court as evidence in any disputes, which could rule out being installed in some places
I have been advised of three places (not LA fitted) local to us that they have had to be removed as inacurate registrations have resulted in expensive disputes with vehicle owners
