Roof Mounted Sat TV Auto Dish
Looking to purchase an automatic roof mounted satellite tv dish. I do not intend to ever do this again, but seek advice on an automatic auto skew 85cm dish. I would prefer a local supplier and fitting service. Any help in regard to make and local suppliers would be appreciated.

I can recommend the smaller Snipe unit. We have had good reception well down into the Dordogne so comparable with the slightly larger dish size you seek., it's quick to set up and well built.
If you want advice on a local supplier and fitting service it would be a good idea to let members know where you are located.

I think Motorhomer from Fife is a bit of a clue?
OP should perhaps buy a copy of MMM as lots of suppliers advertise in that specialist motorhome magazine.

Hi, I cant give advice on purchase choice but would just say bthat I have two friends, one a MHr and one a caravanner both of who bought roof mounted auto dishes.
Both have said they would never do so again due to the fact that, as its on the roof, you have no flexibility in positioning the dish.
With the change to the footprint of satellite cover some years ago positioning is even more critical when abroad than before so, for me, there would have to be a far greater need than I have to consider spending the money such a device will cost.
I did look at things like v qube but then decided to stick with my 60cm dish, bought in Spain, which got a picture at Lake Garda when our friends brand new roof mounted auto dish just turned around, and around and around!.

We had a roof mounted dish on our last motorhome. It was very easy to use but very expensive, I think we paid about £1800. You can of course pay much more and if you went for an Oyster with auto skew I doubt you would get much change out of £2500? Worth thinking about a TV with a built in satellite receiver as this cuts down of gubbins in the van. Avtex and Cello both offer this option. From time to time they tweak the positioning of the channels which usually requires a software upgrade so I would certainly check that whatever brand you buy these are readily available when required. We now have a new motorhome and we have not bothered to go down the satellite route as we have an aerial which in the UK meets our requirements.

I don't think I would go that far but you do certainly need to think carefully whether the investment will be good value to you. If UK TV programmes abroad are important to you it might well be worthwhile providing you are with in range of the Astra satellite for UK programmes. Mobile network data could work as an alternative for you assuming there is a good enough signal and the networks don't start restricting use now we have left the EU. I have not been on many sites where the site WiFi would be a good alternative. It is true that on some campsites it is difficult to get a signal because of tree cover but I think campsite receptions abroad are getting quite used to people wanting to use satellite TV and can often help.
