I received the March issue of the club's magazine today. A quick read through brought up a number of issues. Apart from IMO error in plugging the Northern 500 there is a big plug on page 9 for CLs where it states that (I quote) "There are 2260 Certificate Locations across the UK (as of January this year)" If that was the case there have been 60 CLs lost already this year a s the total today stands at 2200, which I don't believe that there has been looking at the updates, given by Maddie and in the magazine. On page 15 there a short article titled "Look out for Club Week" which has already passed on 22-26 Feb, not much use on March 3rd!! In the CL Update section there's an update on 758 at Tenterden which mentions a Toft Country House Hotel & Golf Club CL, but that does not appear in the club's website  CL section. Doesn't anyone at HO check the facts before publishing the articles?

Well you read it more thoroughly than me!  Although I did notice the plug for the Northern 500 which I thought was a bit irresponsible.  They dont seem to be pushing the many other areas of the country where club site bookings are not full yet.  Good - I might be able to go to those places.

I have to say it only takes me one cup of tea to get through the magazine.  I flip through in the vain hope there may be something of interest.

    No!

Just wonder  how soon those that get the magazine on the digital version get it before the printed version? If they do.

Surely the point about the NC500 is that people are going to visit anyway so why not have some proper information about it. I see it was written by Andrew Ditton who has a great deal of personal experience of living and touring in Scotland. He was careful to point out places to stay and places not to go with a car and caravan or a large motorhome. BTW Andrew Ditton has some excellent YouTube videos on the Outer Hebrides on his channel for anyone thinking of visiting.

Nelliethehooker as I'm no longer a member I don't get the magazine, but I did find examples similar to this myself when we were and that was long before Covid could be put forward in any way shape or form 😉.

On the basis of CL numbers and out of date information, again I'd seen similar, I have reported your post and asked if we could have a proper reply from the correct source.. I expect Rowena will, as she usually does, acknowledge and pass on but we rarely here further. I won't be holding my breath 🤐

As for the NC500 let's hope DavidKlyne is right for the reasons for inclusion and that it's not lack of independent research and exploring! I think there are many folk who tour far away from the madding crowds! Maybe the researcher(s) does but doesn't want them spoilt so writes in honeypot places 😉😉

A friend of ours has his magazine last week and I read it on digital version the same day but not a lot to read really and prefer my R.H.S. magazine a lot more useful information.

Andrew would have been commissioned to write the article by the Club. As I mentioned he has a well known video channel on YouTube where he explores many of the lesser known areas of Scotland and I am sure he would be equally happy to write about those places for the Club magazine if asked? The promotion of the NC500 has been very successful, perhaps too successful but just because others have enjoyed it in the past  is no reason to suggest others shouldn't do so in the future. It's really up to those that are encouraging tourist to use the route to provide enough facilities which I think they are starting to do. I imagine Club members are at the more sensible end of those that visit the NC500 and will seek to plan properly, as was the point of the article. What the Club can't control are those that might use the route inappropriately because of lack of knowledge or a devil may care attitude.

Thank you for your post which I will forward to relevant colleagues for a response.

With regards to Club Week, various videos went live between those dates for Club Week but you can still currently access the virtual campsite and all the videos by visiting: camc.events This will be available for the next few days for anyone who missed watching it live, plus all the videos are hosted on your YouTube channel too. We previously hosted our virtual Club Week on Facebook but we got some responses on Club Together that people didn't have Facebook so we wanted to make it accessible for all.  laughing

The photo of Glen Docherty on page 26 is where we stopped in 2019 for a break and to enjoy the view ahead. A huge German coach joined us (only in a small parking area) and we were inundated with people taking photos of our van as we sat inside having a coffee! (Perhaps they thought the Mercedes conversion was rather quaint...laughing)

Things really have changed up there. It's still a lovely place to visit but the "moving on faction" encouraged by calling it a tour route has altered the general atmosphere. If the increased tourist demands for "facilities" increase it will be changed forever. Enjoy it while you can.

We stayed at Poolewe, it's a lovely spot with a good community. We enjoyed the market in the village hall where the locals and visitors can gather to purchase all sorts of things and enjoy home made cakes and tea. I wonder how many miss these things as they collect their stamped cards in each stopping off place?

That said the article gives lots of enjoyable ideas for a trip to the far north and it might be just a bit quieter before we open up to world wide tourism once more.

The CMC mag has improved immensely in recent times. Now that it comes in a paper envelope there is no need to open the wrapper before recycling it

As I had booked our trip for NC500 back in November '20, I found it most interesting & was able to add a couple of things to my itinerary at places that were included in Andrews report that we will be visiting.....

So, that's a thanks from me.....

Thanks B2 for reporting my post, and thanks Ro for passing my points to the relevant departments. I wait to hear their explanations, but won't be holding my breath.
