Good evening, I towed for 3 years with a 2 wheel drive XC60 towing a challenger 530. No problem at all stable and plenty of power. Enjoy.

Hi, Have towed my Unicorn Madrid and have had no issues with my xc60 2.4 manual. Plenty of power and in comfort. I have only had to be towed off a pitch twice in all the time I've had it.

     Hi Martyn

After reading your comment on the 2wd XC60 I would be interested to find out which engine it is and manual or auto.

If auto is it 6 or 8 speed.

    I tow a Coachman at 1700kg

    Regards

    Richard

By coincidence both myself and my brother bought used Volvo’s from main dealers last year. Both have electrical problems, rubbish dealers, lying salesmen etc etc. Will be glad to get rid of mine.

Interesting comments by flatcoat ,what were the electrical issues.

My Freelander 2 is very good but its 7 years old now.

I like the Disco Sport but they have so many issues DPF Oil dilution, .

I think an F Pace might be the answer !!!

The oil dilution problem with the JLR Diesel engine has been sorted but bear in mind it is the same engine irrespective of whether a Jaguar or L/R badge. Both cars needed new batteries, my brothers has various paint defects, mine has ongoing issue of warning messages with problems with alarm, hybrid system, not starting, aircon compressor needed replacing.

Not to my knowledge, the 2L diesel engine still retains the same architecture and all LR did was bring out updated software to mask the problem. When they brought out N289 in 2019 it updated the dilution algorithm from 6% to 10%, so allowing more diesel dilution into the mix, but cloaking it from the customer thus removing the "Engine Service Required" message appearing early.

Although the heading is for comments on a Volvo the OP does say that he is looking at a couple of other cars.  I have had 2 Tiguans, the first 4 wheel drive and the current one 2 wheel drive.  I have towed thousands of miles with them.  They have been fault free and towed my 1326 kg caravan over the Alps to southern Italy, to Spain, to Portugal with no difficulty whatsoever.  They have both been diesel DSG (auto) cars and give  30 + mpg when towing.  If you opt for a Tiguan get the new model (2018 on I think) it is a considerable improvement on the older one.

I think there are still problems with the Disco and its due to

DPF located to low down and not reaching desired temperature.

The D240 is better due to twin turbo and rerouted exhaust system.

The  F Pace DPF is located nearer to the engine and gets hotter, I have seen this on official JLR internal memos to staff.

If you would like a copy I could  email it to you

I currently have an XC60 4wd and have owned a Tiguan some time ago both tow very well, the difference between the two is suspension the XC60 is a good compromise between solo and towing. I always found the Tiguan to be harsh solo but very good towing.
