Motorhome Money Pit

😂 Definitely. We had an afternoon to kill a couple of years ago, decide to have a look around, new and used stock. We weren’t impressed. It wasn’t too bad as an independent dealership, but it’s definitely changed. Caveat Emptor......we overheard some first time buyers getting the silver tongued treatment🤨

Let's put it in context.
I had the SRS unit on our 2015 MH fail which led me to do some research. There are a large number of units out there with a production fault but the people responsible will not accept liability and do a recall.
Many are repairable and are fixed at the owners expense. Mine needed to be replace and cost a lot more but was replaced with a supposedly fault free unit. It has been okay since.
The unit itself is not only on MH's but also on many vans and cars.

It's the LVs that are expensive. The majority of the base vehicles are cheap.

Again you are confusing the cost of the finished product with the cost of the base vehicle. I stand by my contention that the biggest part of the cost of an LV is the conversion. Therefore, the total price paid will not reflect the quality or reliability of the base vehicle where the majority of your issues lie. The same base vehicle can be used for MHs of all prices and reliability will not alter according to the eventual LV price.

Actually, if it’s British made, you have done well to get a couple of fault free years out of it. Many don’t make it through the first tour away without something going wrong, something dropping off, etc..... It’s always been good practice to try and buy not too far from home, particularly for new outfits that are tied to warranties. Last time we looked around new British MHs, we were astonished at how flimsy and poorly put together some of the fixtures and fittings were, possibly to save on weight no doubt.

After ten years from manufacture and build /installation ,my " Concord" has had the Inverter replaced .The original one factory fitted kept playing up so as me not being able to raise the front screen blind .etc.I chose to purchase a new " Mastervolt Ultra" and upgrade at the same time. .The new one is 12v-3000w.ordered from the suppliers,£2.700+ but an allowed discount of 20% helped !! !! .Fitted yesterday by " Magic Motorhome Man" from the South Coast. .Brilliant service and fitting. .Mileage plus hours at work .VERY FAIR competent mechanic. Highly recommended...

Fitting an inverter is my next upgrade. As he's very local to me, I'll give him a bell.

I agree about the base. Perhaps in another lifetime we will be able to choose a reliable base to go with the LV we have chosen.
Trouble was we fell in love with our LV not realising the the base would be a complete letdown. Ah well you live and learn.
