Glorious twelfth!
We are all so looking forward to getting our vans out again. I wonder as a one off, if the Club would consider a 10am arrival time on 12 April to avoid queues at the site office?

That's a great idea it is not as we will have to wait for pitch to be vacated

You'll just get queues at 10.00 am rather than 12 noon.

I don't think that would be the case, almost everybody could manage to arrive at 12.00 - 12.30 and join the queue but I would guess less than half of that number would want to arrive by 10.00.
I'm sure if you had a survey asking members "what time would you aim to arrive if there was no restrictions" I would suggest the most popular slot would be 11.00 - 11.30 or possibly 11.30 -12.00. Almost certainly, arrivals from 10.00 would result in little or no queues.

Even with either 12 noon or 1.00 pm arrival times, some still arrive anything from 9.30 am. We've seen them.

I do find arrival times for me and my outfit to be a bit tedious to pin down.
If i travel 40 miles, locally, I can be fairly accurate however doing, say, 100 miles introduces so many unknowns into the equation that I wouldn't have a clue as to the length of my travelling time.
Sat Nav gives an indication but again it changes as I drive along so it is unrealistic to rely on the initial ETA given by it.
For the club to allocate arrival times, particularly when I travel over a long distance, would probably cause me to end up on the naughty step on each arrival occasion.
Please think again!

Yes, that's right and we still don't know if all this will go ahead and whether facilities will be open. I can't imagine site managers being able to cope with a stampede. It was sensible to allocate arrival times on the first day of opening, it probably helped with local traffic flow too.

With the lack of word back from HO about even opening up it well not be The Glorious Twelfth!!

The information given seems fairly clear. They are planning to open up sites in England on the 12th April. Unless of course the government change their guidance. The only unknown is the facilities. However, the information I have read seems to preclude opening showers, although toilets might be OK.

Officially you mean. I bet a few of those pesky forigners sneak in.
Seriously, I can only assume staff at Welsh CAMC sites will access home address from bookings and refuse entry but will H.O. do anything before they get to site, like cancelling any bookings? I do know some locals who are booked into LMP for the 29th.

well kids should be back at school after the Easter break, most others should be working, only leaves retirees, so why the rush, oh! i forgot, people will want to join in the CAMC camp olympics to see who can get round the site first and bag the best pitch

I'm surprised so many of you are waiting with anticipation of going away? We were due to be on site from before the 12 April until 18 April but I've cancelled the whole break. There are too many unknowns, particularly now we have the Brazil variant and one of them that has it can't be traced.
In addition, who is to say that sites will open on the 12th and, if they do, how long will it be before they have to close again? I've every sympathy with the holiday, retail and hospitality sectors but nowhere should open until it's safe to do so.
The Government are already gong against SAGE advice in opening up schools fully on 8 March and they expect a surge in infections to take the R rate above 1. Our earliest break in the van is now Spring Bank Holiday weekend and we have resigned ourselves to the fact that even this break may be cancelled. My wife works in the NHS and, fortunately, has now had both doses of the vaccine but I haven't even had one yet although expecting a letter very soon as I'm in the 60-65 age group. However, I'd be unlikely to get my second dose until May anyway.
Too many people think the dates given are set in stone and, whilst businesses need to prepare, I want to be safe and not sorry.

Yes there are differing school holidays from even neighbouring areas.
Some have the week before and after the Easter weekend, Some the two weeks after Easter.

There are those that queue, there are those who don’t. 😂 We are firmly in the “got better things to do” category.
Pleasantly surprised to find CL we have booked in July, couple of hours from home, is arrivals from 10am😁 Handy if weuse caravan, but we won’t be, so no need to rush to pitch up.

All sites gates will be locked until the morning of the 12th and not before if it all goes as planned.
We will be in Cornwall in September again providing all plans are allowed and will be arriving on site about 4pm due to ferry getting in at 2pm.

I just don’t understand why they are looking to keep the facilities closed. I have just seen the rules for our local golf club and whilst they reopen on 29.3, on 12.4 they are allowed to open the changing facilities. I can’t see any difference to site shower blocks!!
Some of these restrictions seem petty and don’t make sense

I don't think it petty in the least. Staying on a campsite and using your own facilities I would say is a perfectly safe option. As soon as you open facilities you are introducing an element of possible danger of people being in close proximity to each other, especially in what is a relatively confined space. By the 12th April things may have improved enough to allow facility blocks to be open but that is 6 weeks away and a lot can happen during that time.

David, the point I am making is the inconsistency of it all. Most golf club changing facilities have toilets, showers, sinks and in addition changing areas. Camp site shower blocks have exactly the same except for an open changing area. If there is such a risk from Covid then the golf club facilities shouldn’t be scheduled for reopening.
“an element of possible danger”. Frankly it is more dangerous going to the local supermarket...

I looked up one of our local golf clubs and although closed at the moment the HS Covid Risk assessments suggest that the shared facilities were closed previously even though the course was open. There's nothing there yet to say they are opening up facilities, they can't until there is confirmation from the gov on the policy for shared facilites.
There are lengthy risk assessments for public and private companies to go through.
They are a particular risk to anyone who is more vulnerable.
CAMC may well be able to open facilities, we don't know yet.
Personally I won't be using them.

Thankfully the Government are being more cautious about coming out of lockdown this time. As I understand it they have said that self catering and campsites can open but only with self contained facilities which to me suggests that toilet blocks will remain closed until they say otherwise. As I have said campsites in themselves are perfectly safe to operate with the facilities closed but there is some doubt in the mind of those that make the decisions whether opening toilet blocks put people at risk. It could, of course, be that they have not drilled down into the detail enough to provide a definitive answer as of yet and that is why the Club is seeking clarification? We certainly won't be going away until a couple of weeks after our second vaccination which means are first stay is likely to be towards the mid/end of May. Whether we like it or not we have to be guided by what the Government allows which hopefully remains based on data rather than dates.

Glad you think they're petty but I'm sure most of the population don't! The problem with not opening the facilities is that it precludes members without facilities, for example if you're in a small VW motorhome or similiar.
Some people are just not taking this matter seriously!

Last year we used a number of site that had the facilities closed off. This did not stop tenters and those with camper van turning up with toilet tents and porter potties and any number of ingenious shower arrangements.
Idiots that ignore the laws, rules, and guidance will only slow our progress to fully open and back to what was normal. Just go with the gentle flow.

Not about taking it seriously or not, no one is forcing anyone to go out, use a shared toilet, shower or anything else. However given by next month most over 50’s will be at least part vaccinated the risks of illness and hospitalisation are much less - as the data is already proving. When we were in Cornwall last July 4th the private site ran at 50% capacity and had an excellent Covid security cleaning regime in place. It all depends on whether you want life in your days or days in your life. Those who want to stay barricaded in are welcome to do so and those of us who are willing to take advantage of the easing of restrictions are also free to do so.
