We are hoping to make up for lost time too, hopefully. Owners giving all sorts of reasons for wanting to visit, I think some had to leave in a hurry at the last lock down, hoping they would return sooner. Some had left clothes, some hadn't put salt bowls out and were worried about damp and a couple of them had left food in their fridge and cupboards. The reply was still no.

When I saw that I swore! There will be far to many vehicles on roads unable to cope with them. To start with nothing will be open. Its to be hoped that they don't come up here from 12th April as that is not the opening date here. We don't know what date sites will open, but it does not look like anything will be open before the end of April.

I think a good bit of Scotland is in danger of seeing so much change, it will lose part of the very reason folks want to visit. It has happened to Cornwall down the last 35 years, some improvements to infrastructure and facilities have been good for local people, but it’s brought an influx of visitors that’s just grown year on year. Double edged sword really, where an area for one reason or another has lost its key industries, the reliance upon tourism becomes ever more important. Difficult achieving a good balance.

I remember a few years ago, 2008 or 2009 I think, people were staying in the UK and sites were crowded. We were camping and stayed at a camp site where the owner had simply turned a couple of fields over to camping. The toilets and showers were disgusting and overcrowded. If he had employed extra cleaners it would have helped.
This year we will be in our caravan so the state of toilets and showers will not concern us.

You sure it wasn't Foot and Mouth year John, times flies etc.? 20 years ago . I remember wanting to go abroad that year and in fact did. No food allowed, disinfected when disembarking but an enjoyable year for touring but nightmare for farmers.

Anyway, back to holidays this year. Had no problem booking a lovely new CL in Cotswolds for late July, just our kind of place. That has knocked two thirds off the price of our stay near Moreton, so that will go towards another week away somewhere else later in year. So far, so good, we seem to be having no issues finding somewhere nice to stay.😁

yes there appear to be lots of pitches with either the club and other providers if you can be flexible

I shall be cancelling our Club Site booking at Moreton. It’s a site we haven’t used, and I booked it a few months ago thinking it might get very busy, but at over £30 per night, it’s not for us if we can organise a nice alternative. CL is actually closer to one of the places we want to visit, and it has some great reviews, so will suit us. Might even get the chance of a stables tour as well, see some of the equine stars. Some nice cycling as well by the looks of it, we intend making most of bikes this year.

I've just checked 4 club sites for June. All but one have plenty of availability so I suspect there may be a fair bit of unnecessary panicking going on.

We have been able to book 18 sites so far, up to the early August, and not had to find an alternative to our first choice on each occasion, so there are plenty of pitches available to book at the moment.
Tda, I would certainly be interested in what you think of the CL in the Cotswolds, once you've visited it.

Will do Nellie. It has no hook ups, but that’s fine for us in Summer. Nice pitching area, with plenty of space, a dog walk from Site, strolling distance into Moreton. I will let you have details. We lost our first night stopover heading to SW a few years ago in this area, so this looks likely to provide a very nice alternative. We are looking to visit Hidcote, Snowshill, bit of cycling, so it looks good.👍

Think you might have to do something more substantial than driving thru a disinfectant bath if planning to visit this year

I had a look at the site, it looks good and a level walk into Moreton. The area is flat, hence the "marsh" bit but it starts to get steep as you head towards Batsford arboretum on the main road west. Lots of lanes near where you are staying will be quieter. You can probably get round the back to Chastleton House, nice area to explore.

Thda, sorry maybe you already know and not meaning to spoil any plans but are you aware dogs aren't allowed in Hidcote or Snowshill. You can walk them on a lead in the extensive grounds at Charlecote, near Stratford. It's nice there too.

We're just keeping fingers crossed that sites in the UK will open up around 12th April. We've had to cancel our first caravan outing at the end of March (because of the Covid restrictions), but I have managed to transfer this planned visit to Burrs to a little later.
Our cottage in the Outer Hebrides for early April has had to be cancelled, but we'll try and get there later on in the year.
We've decided to leave visiting Europe until things get aittle more predictable... perhaps 2022?

received the as an email today from West Dorset Holidays, we have a pitched booked 4th May thru 17th May, so at least we will be able to go and just use our own facilites, will have to find a new wet room for boots and coats, normally use our shower cubicle which is one of those fairly large wrap around ones. But we are on a svcd pitch so water supply will not be a problem in the shower, which, has never been used since the van was new in 2008

Thank you Debsc, we are aware😁 We have done both before, we might leave him in MH in car park if it’s a cool day, but normally we do things one of us at a time, while t’other walks the pooch and gets a meal ready. We like Charlecote grounds as well, done that a few times. He’s getting on now is the pooch, we give him a good walk, then it’s ok, you two head off while I have a sleep!
Brue, will look at Chastleton. I think this is the one they use in Poldark unless I am mistaken? I think we missed it last time down, due to opening days. It was closed day we drove through area.
Five nights at Moreton Club Site was going to cost us £181. The CL will be £60. We aren’t bothered about a hook up for five nights, happy to save £120. That’s another week away somewhere👍
Edit......Not Poldark, it was Wolf Hall😁 On the list for a visit. I had mixed it up with Chavenage.

I hope you manage to see Chastleton TDA, I don't know about filming there. I was lucky enough to make a first visit years ago when I was student, it was in private hands, no electricity, we were late arriving and were shown round by candlelight. I can still remember being shown an ancient bed quilt in the very creepy gloom, deep shadows abounded. I'm amazed no-one tripped up in the bumpy long gallery! It's a lovely building and quite special.

Just watched FM of Wales announcing self contained holiday accommodation will be open in Wales from 28th.March.
Until England and Scotland relaxes their rules this will apply only to residents living in Wales.
Have to start getting things ready. Might get away just after Easter to an adults only site.
