This made me smile as it shows how things can look different depending on where you are standing.
If I said "how a bout a UK trip looking at churches and castles" it would be a very swift, and firm, no.
If, however, I said "how about a trip to see Carcassonne, Mont St Michel, Verona, and Florence" it would be an entirely different reaction!!

😁History is my passion. I love British Churches, all our history of one sort and another is in there, large and small. You can walk in the footsteps of beggars and Kings, marvel at the ancient methods of construction, find a pirate’s grave (around 3 miles from where you live😉) They are the buildings that have possibly seen more change than any other in our landscape. Similar with castles, although Oliver Cromwell and his buddies have a lot to answer for☹️
Continental churches are still much more colourful, but that’s their history. Just as interesting as ours, but without the Reformation. It’s a whole new World waiting to be explored.😁OH was blown away by Alhambra, I loved Athens and the Acropolis, Mycenae, Delphi. If it’s old, I love it.😁

If you ever make it to Brittany then I would recommend making a special effort, amongst many others, to visit the Trémalo Chapel, near Pont Aven. It is the most magical of places and contains a wooden Cross with a Yellow Jesus on it that inspired the painting by Paul Gauguin.
It's a private chapel but open to the public and we came across it by chance whilst on a circular walk from Pont Aven itself, as we tend to find most places.

I'll be looking to spend some time this autumn making a point of exploring new places to us in the UK. There are bits of Somerset and Wiltshire, rural Dorset and north Devon that we have only just dipped our toes in.
I have the green light to start investigating.

Somerset is enticing us. Has some of the best churches in country. I would like to have a look around the Willow Centre as well. Done Glastonbury a few times, (brilliant for people watching😎), want to revisit Wells. We might veer further East in Wiltshire. We drove back through Avebury a couple of years ago. We really ought to hit Kent and Sussex, but the traffic puts us off.

Well we should all know more this evening. It has already been leaked that part of the plan is to be allowed to travel out of our areas after 31st March but no overnight stays so that looks as though our plan to visit our static van in March or now even April is out. However, we shall see what's what when the man speaks.

We were in Sussex and Kent last August and it was incredibly quiet. If you do go don't miss Emsworth and Bosham in West Sussex. Great areas which are totally different depending on the state of the tide. Lovely little ferry at Bosham Harbour (will take your bikes). The whole area is ideal for cycling on quiet flat country lanes. There is also a "not to be missed" cycle ride from Sandwich to Deal along a private road (open to cyclists). Broadstairs is also a lovely seaside resort.
Simply a great part of the country which is often overlooked.

We've been to both Sussex and Kent on quite a few times.
I agree with Mikey about Bosham and Emsworth and Thorney Island is worth walking around. Whitstable and Faversham are both worth a visit, we love the Oare Marshes by Faversham and Dungeness is definitely a Marmite place. We like it though. Rye and the surrounding area is another place to get to.
One thing though is that generally it is very busy, road wise, and supermarkets etc. all tend to be packed to the rafters no matter what time you go. Whilst I'm not casting aspersions on what Mikey found I have never experienced it as being anything other than hectic, although inland on the Downs is less busy.

I know the press like to speculate and there is a lot of that going on just now but most have a similar headline to the below.
Be interesting to see when we will be able to travel abroad, not before June is my guess, and even then it will be dependant upon which country you plan to visit as to whether you can go or not, but it would take some pressure of Staycations especially in the west country where hotels now have waiting lists

I had a week down there with my Sister. We did it via a NT coach tour, so we got to see a lot of the places we wanted to go, Chartwell, Sissinghurst, Knole, etc. It was relaxing not having to drive, but the coach did crawl at times. Some lovely places to visit though still. would need careful planning. OH isn’t that bothered as he spent a lot of time down there, and in London growing up. Coastal areas, Rye, Deal etc... I would enjoy. It definitely won’t be this year though.
Remembered a very nice little private bolt hole we have used down near Marazion. I used to use indoor pool when we stayed on a CL, and laundry. Could be an alternative to Club Site🤔

If the current crop of leaks about coming out of lockdown are anywhere near accurate, staycations are likely to be brief as it'll be autumn before we really get going. Some day trips out in May if we are lucky.

We have Richmond Hargill House CC booked for the first 2 weeks of April will have to go on and cancel that now. Looks like our trip to Berwick in May and Somerset in July should go ahead though. We need something to look forward to in these gloomy times where it seems it’s all been bad news for so long now
