This topic has probably been discussed before but i will ask again. What is the best way to sterilise and descale my Combi 4 e boiler and water system. Some say Milton some say Purelean some say be careful as some product's can damage the steel lining in the boiler. Do you heat the boiler while you do it or leave it it cold. Also if i take the filter out of the ultrflow will it affect the way the water system work's as some say replace the filter with a piece of waste pipe cut the same length as the filter, but i am not sure what this is for.

any info greatly appreciated.

We have a different boiler, but use Puriclean for sterilising and white wine vinegar for descaling.

We do not have a filter in our van, and IMO it is an unnecessary extra cost as they have to be replaced frequently..

The cleaning process is not good  for the filter, hence the suggestion to replace it with a pipe when cleaning, then you can put in a new filter if you wish

Thank's for that but i still don't understand what the piece of pipe doe's. Why do you need it. Do you use puriclean and vinegar together or do two separate washes. It's all very complicated.

you don't need a piece of pipe in place of filter. when i had a lunar with filter on the inlet i just removed the filter and all worked just as well. don't bother with white vinigar, just mix about 10 teaspoon fulls of puraclean in a full aqua roll and turn the pump on till it flows out all the taps, hot and cold then leave for a couple of hours and flush the whole system several times to get rid of the cleaner. job done. there will be a Y connector before the heater from the water inlet so you will get hot and cold water if not you will never get cold water as all water will go through the hot tank first. follow the pipe under your seat and see where it goes.

Never having had a filter, I have no idea how they fit in the system, but did read somewhere that some are "in-line", so presume that if that is the case, and you remove it, you would need to fill the gap with something.

I would also think that if you want to do away with the filter, just remove it, empty the contents out, and replace the empty shell.

We do not mix the Puriclean and the vinegar.  The Puriclean is used before every trip, don't forget the Aquaroll too, while the vinegar is  only needed occasionally.to descale the boiler.  Like ET (I think) we have an Alde boiler.

Thanks everyone, yes i have a Y piece one is blue pipe to cold taps the other the red pipe goes to the heater that's why i could not figure out how to do them separately. As for the filter on my last van i split the filter from the cap and just used the cap it was just that someone said with the Ultraflow they removed the filter and put in  piece of drain pipe in it's place i wondered why.

Had a reply today from Truma who advise to use 2 Ltrs of white wine vinegar to 10/12 ltrs of water leave to soak for 24 hrs then flush. I did ask about using pureclean but they said they could not comment on other products. They also said it is fine to use the Ultraflow water system with no filter if that's what i prefer.

If Truma cannot comment on others products, do they do there own white wine vinigar as you would have to by others products, seems a stupid statement to me.

The vinegar will descale, but I would say the Puriclean will be better at sterilising the water system.
