Club prices

Corners wrote "As I've said before complaining about prices on here achieves nothing. The club will only listen when people stop going to club sites."
I agree. I notice, based on comments, a fair number do vote with their wheels. I am very selective in my use of club sites because of this very issue. I've never been one for buying "the brand" whether car, clothing or campsite. CAMC are probably relying on ever increasing membership to successfully operate their business model.

I posted my thoughts on the original post, Club Prices and my interest in the way the prices are made up in a comparison to others. A lot of sites are not convenient to local places without transport so only the individual, like yourself, can make that type of comparison.
The reply from Cornersteady who said, "Not if you want them" makes a logical explanation for some members.

Dave, The problem we have with hot weather in this country is that it doesn't build up slowly but comes in a flash and unfortunately it goes away just as quickly. Hot weather abroad always seems much easier to deal with.
We were in Tuscany in May 2019 and it was bitterly cold, it is just the way the climate is these days, nothing is dependable.
Still prefer good weather to bad weather for a holiday!

It will not be many years before temps in the south of the continent of the EU will be too hot for us northern europe folk and the "unusual "in the past birds from warmer climes and insects are are already making ,mostly southern England at this time ,their year round homes because of higher temps

On the other hand last year I only spent about £200 on site fees
That was your choice though David. I'm sure many spent much more than that on site fees over the year. We spent £1941 on site fees last year, and only used 2 CC sites, and it worked out at just over £14 per night, so caravanning can be a relatively inexpensive hobby.

We were away twice and third booking was cancelled due to the increasing issue with COVID. It just didn't feel right to us when we were away as we couldn't lead a normal life whilst away. No coffee shops, no pubs or journeys on public transport so there seemed little point in pushing the envelope as they say. I am sure there were people like you that went away at every opportunity but I am pretty sure that there were a lot like me who came to the conclusion that COVID had robbed us of a lot of the enjoyment. I don't go camping to sit in some remote location, I want to be doing things and I want bases near to things of interest. I never spent as much money as you spent last year on sites, even the year we spent 121 nights in the van. Now I appreciate last year even you were constrained and probably you would have spent much more in a "normal" year. We don't desire to be away longer than we usually do so therefore our costs are much less than yours even if we decide to use Club or commercial sites and I wonder how many people are in the same position. If site costs were becoming a burden, which logically would suggest other elements of taking part in the hobby like servicing and insurance I think we would seriously think about giving up as there are lots of other things we can do.

I wonder if the 'Covid effect' had more of an influence on those who use public transport more frequently? Last summer it had little effect our decision to get away in the caravan - we never use public transport. If a Motorhome user is more likely to get out an about by using public transport, I can understand the reluctance. I can't think we ever went anywhere where we felt at risk, but then, we are happy to keep away from crowded places.
On of the things I remember from last year was going out for tea! We took the cadac in the back of the car and cooked our 'evening meal' at the National Trust Godrevy (in Cornwall), overlooking St Ives Bay. There were some folk about, but the crowds had gone and it was quite possible to socially distance. I am 'really fortunate', in so far as Carol doesn't drink. I could have a glass or two of wine, and Carol was happy to drive back..... 👍👍
When we get the chance, we could possibly do a similar thing in different locations.... Mind you, I'll have to be careful.... she might think I'm taking advantage of her driving skills... 🤣🤣🤣
Let's hope and pray that the situation -re Covid gets a little better soon to enable us all to get out and about in our Motorhomes and Caravans a little more safely.

On the subject of the comparison between the cost of a Premier Inn and site costs..... Personally, my preference would be to stay in my caravan rather than a Premier Inn. One issue is 'the dog', the other issue is that, with the caravan we have all our own equipment. In 'Covid times' this gives me much more confidence....

There’s the rub DT👍🏻, I like to be out all year round too moving & enjoying the areas I’m in, a lot of my time is spent in woods & forests-not much sun there🙂. I can’t sit & watch the world go by whilst toasting in sizzling heat🥵

You must visit all the wrong places, spent 1 month in Devon on 1 site for the whole of September 2020, beautiful, Easter 2019 in Spain was horrendous, rain wind, cold , admit it is hissing down outside just now but for me variety is the spice of life , will probably go and sit in caravan for my morning coffe later, it is a svcd pitch and apart from a little bit of lecce it is free

I recall, on a CL just outside Stratford upon Avon a few years back, that I was draping a wet towel over the front of the fridge it was that hot and we just lay in the shade outside the van. The one guarantee with UK weather is that you can't guarantee it.

Our touring last year after lockdown was:
All of July - Sussex and Kent - Very good weather
Last week Aug/ first week Sept - South Devon - changeable some good/ some pretty poor.
If I was still working, I would have booked my time off many months before and would have been rather miffed if our 2nd break had been our main Summer holiday.

What’s the weather got to do with Club Site prices?

Isn't there a proposal to charge £5 extra when there is more than 5 hours of sunshine or the temperature goes above 23 deg. C.

everything i would have thought.....e.g if you are planning a visit to the Lake District and the weather forecast is for rain for the duration of your planned visit and the club are going to charge you £30 for the privilage of going and sitting in the rain, for me that would be a def no no no...far better to find a nice commercial site closer to home that has been forecast for sunny weather

You would think so, way some folks are fussing. Club is what it is, Sites, prices, facilities etc..... Those who don’t like certain aspects, such as prices, compromise. We have always toured on the cheap, it’s just one kind of a number of different holidays we take in a year. If we can get a cheaper nightly average fee, we use the savings for something else, or enjoy lots more nights out.
DSB, Travelodge take dogs, for future reference. Ours have stayed all over with us. Premier Inn don't though. You can get some fabulous Pub stopovers with dogs. Many charge a very small fee, but you usually get a doggy goody bag included. I think we usually pay something like an extra £5 a night. Some places even provide doggy duvets.

But the Club allow you to cancel with no penalty, and those of us with smart phones usually have a fairly accurate weather app that gives a glance at what to expect? 🤷♀️ It’s how we tour......pick an area, look at weather....nope, too wet, look at another area, ah, dry and warm, let’s go there......
One place I have been to only a few times, Lake District. Went with school, week of rain. Went on a college course, week of rain. Went for a long weekend with friends, two days of drizzle, one of sunshine. The clues in the name. Plus we did weather patterns in UK at O Level Geography, so I learned at 15 that anything over Pennines is dodgy😂

and that is exactly what i advocated e.g. why pay £30 to sit in the rain, although some might, nothing to do with "cancel with no penalty" I have done my long range forecast on my smart phone, tablet, and laptop, and decided not to book
