Club prices

No reason at all. We do both. When over there we tend to favour the smaller sites, often municipals, with the occasional larger thrown in. Plus of course now Aires. The preference for the municipal type sites is perhaps a hang over from our tenting days.
When touring here, our preference is for CAMC sites. They provide everything we need, at a reasonable price (for over here) plus of course have industry leading T&C’s.

The inflation rate between 1999 and 2020 was 50.8%. Whichever way you slice it, club prices have risen very substantially above that figure over that period. Had they been somewhat closer to the inflation rate, there would doubtless have been less of the perennial threads complaining about club prices.

It's not about what the club offers compared to foreign sites🙄.
So, once again, why do you consider the club prices to be dear? On the whole they seem fairly comparable with other UK offerings.

The fact that the prices are "fairly comparable" to other providers is irrelevant if they are simply matching each other. It doesn't make any of them "good value"
If all CLs suddenly increased their prices to match each other at £25 per night,, would it make them "good value?"

The point I was making is those who have been abroad have first hand experience of what a site can offer without detracting from the ambience. You and others believe that a pool, bar and proper games court would totally destroy the relaxed nature of a site but they really don't.

So I conclude that, as they are roughly comparable, they are therefore not too dear because you cannot pinpoint facets of the pricing as being overly expensive.
We all accept club prices for what they are and either pay up or not but I suspect you have the overseas model fixed firmly in your mind and cannot judge UK site pricing objectively.

You believe that a pool, bar and proper games court enhance a site. For me they do not and particularly so if I am parked near to them.
Each to their own. If they provide you with an enhanced experience then 'fill yer boots'. Surprisingly many have a different view. Go figure!.

Thanks for the insight.

Postcard-weather is here wish you were beautiful.
Heads up-you(we) are no longer a club EU member so our charges are going to be increased, if the news from the travel industry is to be believed, increases from multiple areas-bookings, flights, holiday prices, connections, local taxes et al🤷🏻♂️. I do the Hotel thing so mine will really jump🙄

Maybe there would be less complaints on CT, but what would happen in the 'real world'? The one to do with being on club sites and to the club in general? All that lost income? less new sites, less refurbishments?
We are told by serving wardens that complaints to the club head office about prices are very few indeed. Sites are quite well used, often many are full, and I would say there appear to be more complaints on here about not getting pitches than prices, showing people are willing to pay them. In any event some say prices are too expensive some say they can't get pitches? It just doesn't seem to 'add up' does it?
But as a banker CY can you explain why any business would wish to keep their prices in line with inflation? The only one in my naïve thoughts is to keep prices competitive so that more people buy their products? But it would seem the club has done both, put their prices up (in your view too much) and yet people are still willing to book a pitch.
As I've said before complaining about prices on here achieves nothing. The club will only listen when people stop going to club sites.

Why can't it be both? - what is wrong with a number of short trips here and a long one abroad
well one reason maybe because you give out this advice:
I would always advise young families not to buy a caravan but just to get abroad for a proper 2 week family holiday in the sun - our holidays with Eurocamp in a tent were simply fantastic.
I think you should send yourself a post card Mikey!

Sunday departures thread anyone?

I always have to chuckle to myself when this sort of thread crops up. It takes me back to a holiday in Spain we went on a few years back - a tour of Catalonia and Barcelona. A fabulous holiday, but one couple seemed to spend the whole time asking others where they came from, who they booked with and how much they paid - and then complaining if they discovered they'd paid a bit more. I don't think they can have enjoyed the experience one little bit (particularly when we got to Roses and they realised we had a sea view room - because I'd got in touch with the hotel in advance and asked if we could have one - if looks could have killed! )
Surely the point is that, when you book any sort of holiday you know the price in advance and choose for yourself whether it's acceptable or not. Having made that choice just get on and enjoy the experience, little point wondering whether others are having a better/cheaper time!

Getting back on topic, Club Prices.
I have just been looking at the two club sites at Killin. Maragowan (full facility) and Clachan (basic no facility) 3/4 mile up the road
Maragowan was £29.50 and Clachan was £16 per night. That works out at £13.50 for a shower, toilet and washing up. That is a lot of money for those extras especially over 7 nights.
Back into Northumberland: River Breamish £28.90 and Nunnykirk £18.00 which is £10.90 for toilet/shower and wash room
So how does the club differentiate on prices. The first example is £13.50 less and the second example is £10.90 less. Why is there a difference of £2.60 between the two.
I will stop there before i get confused

Not if you want them, if you do that is the price you pay (for me you couldn't pay me £13.50 to go to the non facility site - but I'm sure others will take the offer).
There could be all sorts of factors involved, HS? better playground? bigger site, rent? staff costs? heating costs? recent site work…
But the bottom line is that those are the prices.

Some of use might prefer not to have to walk another mile to get to the shops? Even when we had a car and caravan we tended to select sites for their convenience rather than cost. We even used our own facilities when we stayed at Maragowan in 2019!!!
