Club prices

I do understand your point about families at peak times but it's been demonstrated before that CAMC don't raise prices as much as some commercial organisations. The knock on effect is that club prices don't drop as far as those commercial sites in low season which again brings criticism of the club. Looks to me like they can't win. 🤷♂️

The club does help with this more than other providers, firstly children pay children's prices till they are 18 while others have16 or even 14 as the limit. Also many sites have kids for a pound.

I accept that a token effort is made regarding prices during School Holidays, but it is only a token effort as far as I am concerned. Price a holiday for a family of 4 at Hillhead Club Site in August..............mind boggling. I can't help feeling the future of the club and young families will be a failing !. That is my feelings sadly.

If it is a choice of a £2000 holiday in the guaranteed sun or a cheap holiday in low cloud and drizzle then for me, the answer is a no brainer.
We are only here once and the years are slipping away very quickly, make the most of it whilst you can.

None of this comes cheap. Personally I don't think our hobby has been cheap for years. On the other hand last year I only spent about £200 on site fees and 2021 risks being another year where we may not be able to spend as much time away as we imagine?
Indeed, I find all this banter re site prices and a few pounds here or there rather pointless. Several of us who post on here have recently bought new MH’s. The costs of having it sat there doing nothing, make the thousand or so pounds between stopping at the cheapest / dearest sites in a typical year, not worth worrying about. For us anyway.😀

Are you saying club prices are cheap, Mikey?

The cost as has been said so many times ,of most things in the UK "seem" higher according to some than we would like
I can give another example where cost in the UK are causing some to question ? it ,In the last year Eurostar now majority owned by EU companies, have because of falling passenger numbers now only have one train per day to each of its destinations ,and no Gov help and is on a knife edge as to if it can keep going at all (eurotunnel not so effected) and the main reason? because UK track access charges are far higher than in other countries it operates in
As can be noted it is not just One area of the UK that has much higher costs that has to be passed on to the end user

I agree with you to a certain extent but do the same exercise using say a commercial site in Dorset, e.g. Fresh Water Beach, yes they provide much more by means of entertainment, e.g. indoor and outdoor swimming pools, but some entertainment you have to pay for e.g. bowling alley.
This site July thru August, and it is a big site, will be ram packed full with young families, not the place for the faint hearted at peak, got the tee shirt with 3 gkids, never again.
Some families only get maybe 4 weeks hols per year, for 2/3 weeks they throw care to the wind, splash out on the credit card and just have a great time.
Be even more hectic this year once everybody is released from prison

Agreed and i normally do, and if in the UK i normally use commercial sites that are normally more expensive than club sites, simply because i like to have for e.g. a pool, and like you whilst i can afford it i will do it, after all you cant take it with you

If I recall correctly there was a time there were only two seasons, high and low. Now its all over the place. Any wonder members are clamouring for a price list.
I don't think the Club gild the lilly on site prices but I have more than a suspicion that they could do better on cost control to help reduce site prices. Off peak, there are now some very good commercial sites out there at better prices.
The average site price per night I paid last year was £17.60, very much akin to what AD said. That was for 46 nights away, half of what I normal do! It was similar in 2019 as well, £17.82 for 91 nights in the UK. The majority of those nights were not on Club sites.

well hardly tokens in my view, a family with two kids 14-16 could save quite a bit compared to other providers where they'll be adults at 14?
Also £1 a night is pretty good value, a week's holiday for £7 (done without a calculator) as opposed £21/28 is a good saving.
I still have to use school holidays and I've seen no downturn in families using club sites during them. In fact it is mostly families, or grandparents looking after families.
Also if you look at Hillhead and Seacroft (two of the most expensive sites) you'll see Seacroft is practically fully booked (only single nights available) and Hillhead is quite well booked up with full nights and only five pitches or less on the others. If you look at SP they are fully also practically fully booked too.
Also is it mind boggling for a family holiday? a family of four on a site with bar/restaurant, games room and heated swimming pool during the peak six weeks summer holiday comes in at a total of £396.90 per week. For a family holiday I would say that was good.

No, I wasn't saying that at all but in my case it is always about value for money.
I don't think Club sites give value for money, it is not a case of if I can afford it, it is do I want to pay it.
I would pay (and have done), many thousands of pounds more for a holiday if I thought it was good value and I knew the memories would last for ever. For example the memory of standing inside the Capitol dome is priceless. We have lots of nice memories of holidaying in this country when the children were small but all our recent great memories are from holidays abroad.

Yup, Lancashire is like that but if you try South or East you’ll find it much drier-happy to help👍🏻

But even as far back as 1999 there were six price bands PD, so when did the club have just two? Must have been before that?.
Either way the prices are what they are, it is no use saying there were once less prices bands and much cheaper and they are now above inflation?
As you said, if one finds them too expensive find something cheaper.

Whether I'm happy or contended is besides the point, I'm merely giving you the facts on prices and occupancy and my own experiences being on club sites during school holidays.
1 -
So the crux is that you consider club sites to be dear for what they are. Any particular reason for that view?
0 -
So you're saying in an artful way for you that nice memories come from British holidays where as great memories come from going aboard?
Personally I have great memories from the UK and abroad. For me it is being with family on holiday rather than location.

FYI last time I went to Spain the return trip from home to the Costa Dorada cost £800 via the Tunnel. Site cost was £13.15p.n for a fully serviced pitch with satellite TV. If the trip was 90 days that works out at about £22.15p.n. I only did 42 days so the cost worked out to about £33p.n

Why would I ever want to holiday in Lancashire?.
The problem with this country is you can never depend on the weather.
Now we are retired and go away for any length of time in this country, we can ride out the bad weather in the hope it will then turn good rather than just "not bad". When we were working and restricted to 2 weeks in July/August, we rarely had "great weather" and probably had bad weather more often than it was "great". On average it was just that "average". It was only when we flew for the first time and took the children to Disney World in Florida that we really experienced a fabulous family holiday, hot weather, new shared experiences, memories that we still talk about today. I would always advise young families not to buy a caravan but just to get abroad for a proper 2 week family holiday in the sun - our holidays with Eurocamp in a tent were simply fantastic.

But that is exactly why we chose a caravan. We could either have one big two week fantastic holiday abroad or as many holidays as we wanted over here. The cost including buying the caravan averaged over a few years was the same. Now of course we can do both.
So my advice is perhaps ask them what is more important, location or time together on holiday.

You won't like to here this advice - go abroad and stay on a campsite in May/June ( when it isn't too hot) and then you can make your own mind up if you still think CAMC sites are good value.
Even putting prices aside, what does a typical CAMC site provide you with - simply somewhere to park your van, nothing more, nothing less.

Whatever works for you.
Oh the two price bands was?

That included fuel Steve, Tunnel was £200 return fuel £600. Insurance comes free from my bank and breakdown is inclusive of my van insurance so the cost of the trip was purely extras above what I nornally pay to travel and keep the van on the road
