UK staycation boom predicted

Strange but we had a phone call today. MiL has a Saturday appointment now.
Looks like B.C. have given the appointment making back to surgeries as that's where her call came from.
See what happens when you put stuff on this forum?
So that 's one out of the way and won't interfere in our March cottage appointment. Mrs WN thinks she'll be April at least. Not too sure about my timescale but should be end of February if all goes to plan.

Both my wife and I have appointments for tomorrow with the 2nd doses booked for 11th April.
Getting back to staycations, looking at touring stats, 47 percent used to take the main holidays abroad. If they now opt for a staycation that is almost a doubling of demand.

I think I may have read that some commercial/ private sites will carry forward the deposit to a later date, rather than refund, should there be any need for cancellation on either side due to Covid restrictions. This probably wouldn't bother us too much, but I guess there are some who would want a refund. The reason I mention it, is that it's worth asking the question when you book to avoid any misunderstanding at a later date.

The son of friends has booked Perran Sands in Cornwall in a standard static caravan for his family (2 adults and 2 small boys) in August and is paying over £2K a week. I don't know if this is the norm in Cornwall for August, or whether prices have been hiked for this year. Or because we have our own van and use rallies or CLs we have lost touch with how much it costs these days for a self catering holiday/ But it does seem an awful lot to me.

....Or because it's Haven and they're always sky high in August.
Personally, I’d not stay there if they paid me £2k per week.

Outrageous really, but there won’t be any bargains to be had in Devon & Cornwall this year, nor will there be any space on the beach or in any other facility that might be open this year.

Yes, but that’s the point...this year you won’t.
Anyway, the weather in Lanzarote isn’t as exciting as Cornwall - nothing like an easterly gale (today) to stir things up a bit.

Perran Sands is expensive even by Haven standards, and you can bet your life there will be plenty to add on for unexpected extras. It is, of course, the way they can afford to offer those "cheap as chips" breaks for MHers in low season!
Might have to think about renting out our van for July & August!

The thing is anywhere in Cornwall will be expensive in July/August, was before and possibly more so now.
As said many seem to enjoy their cheap breaks there so if you are not tied to the peak, school holiday, periods, you may be OK.
I have been looking for a site in Dorset in mid May and so far no availability issues.
Haven Littlesea is app £8 night cheaper than the closest club site so not always expensive.1 -
The CMC & CCC club sites at Moreton are both convenient for Weymouth on the mainline train. They border lovely heathland. There are also some good independent sites around Ringstead Bay & Osmington above the cliffs east of Weymouth - very unspoilt,

After the 2020 crowds on the eastern side of Weymouth at Lulworth Cove I think it might all happen again this year if the tourist flood gates open? Our friends caught Covid at Lulworth last year, not quite sure why they went, they live in Surrey and are old enough to know better...

Yes, very likely - Lulworth is a long standing major tourist magnet. It’s nice but way too popular and best avoided in Summer even in normal times. The coastal area immediately to the east of Bowleaze Cove at Weymouth is generally uncrowded because it requires a bit of effort to access and there’s not much in the way of facilities. Osmington Mills and Ringstead are the places to go.

Grant Schapps is reported as suggesting holidays, even in the UK, are not likely to happen this summer.
I am assuming that the motorhome will be staying locked in the compound until October.
In fact, I had almost forgotten I owned one!0 -
We visited Haven Littlesea a few years ago. Not somewhere that floats my boat, but the grandchildren loved it. We took them to Trevornick (near Holywell Bay) last year, and have just booked to go again this year, for a week in July. They’ll be in a ‘Ready Tent’ (£300) and we’ll be on a pitch (£250). Pretty reasonable I thought. Hopefully it’ll go ahead 🤞

I’ve just read a short news article, it was one of these ‘leaked government documents’ so who knows how true or otherwise. Anyway it seems that lockdown could last a lot, lot longer yet; it thought pubs and restaurants could be closed until July apparently alongside many other businesses. I’m sincerely hoping this piece of news doesn’t come to fruition!
