Hadrian’s Wall. There are lots of films and TV programmes that have used The Wall for location shoots. Last time we were at Steel Rigg, we watched filming of a battle scene, lots of shaggy ponies, actors in skins and body paint. Never did get to find out what they were filming🤔

Kilchurn Castle, on Loch Awe, is another stunning location. We watched filming of an advert for a new car launch years ago. A VW something or other....

Bamburgh Castle.....always looks like it is Computer Generated, has to be the most instantly recognisable Castle in England.

You can’t move in Cornwall for falling over filming locations, particularly Poldark, both series. Charlestown Harbour hardly has a break from being used as a set location for something or other. Eden Centre for Die Another Day, James Bond.  Lanhydrock House had an exhibition about filming of Twelfth Night last time we visited.

Dubrovnik is on my bucket list.........GOT.

Malham Cove, the limestone pavement over the top, another extensively used location.

Big House? They don’t come bigger (larger) than Wentworth Woodhouse in South Yorkshire. used in Wives and Daughters, Mr Turner, lots of other films.

North York Moors, you can hardly move up there some Summers for film crews. Harry Potter, Secret Garden, Heartbeat etc.....

Bradley and Barney Walsh Breaking Dad, a good entertaining travel programe. Wouldn't want to do the stunts but love to be able to do the USA tours, especially in a big RV. Dream on! The new series is about travel in Europe.

All the TV walking programmes spark my interest, Winter Walks, Walks Around Britain, Yorkshire Walks, River Walks, Lost Railway Walks, to name a few. smile

Another type of broadcast to inspire a UK visit  is  BBC 4 Life of a Mountain, a Year on Helvellyn  LINK (if you've ever wondered where those low flying planes skimming through Cumbria come from you can join in the camera flight...wink)

Very good lighthearted programme and some wonderful tasks.

I'm sure I would have attempted the climbing wall one but the bungee jump would have been too much.  laughing

I enjoyed all of Michael Portillo's Great Railway Journeys, especially Spain and North America.

I've also loved the Hairy Bikers culinary trips to Europe and Rick Stein's France (I really loved that as regional cooking is a great draw to some places.)

Oh dear, I'm a good armchair traveller! wink

Any Bird Guide whether in Europe or the UK gets my interest. Sometimes the catalyst is History but we'll look for something to include our other Hobbies, like Birdwatching, Walking or Cycling.

Anything with all 4 of them tends to have us check out the local Estate Agents as well.smile

Why would anyone want to have a storyline about the Royal Family? It all seems to be common knowledge and frankly most of it is boring. Didn't realise though that it included Caceres. Can't remember them going there on a Royal visit.

    Won’t say another word then.

I am binge watching Peaky Blinders at the moment. Up to fifth series. Some of it filmed in Yorkshire. Love the horses, they are from a farm near Goole, Atkinsons Action Horses. Specialists in horses for on camera, like The Devils’s Horsemen.

Enjoying A Discovery of Witches as well at the moment. Mostly filmed in South Wales, uses Carew Castle, but a beautiful French Castle as well, and Venice. And Oxford.

Mrs WN has her nose stuck in You Tube videos from across the world as her Bedtime viewing. All of them are something to do with Painting or Drawing. It could be technical or just losing yourself in someone else's genius. I've seen a couple of really spectacular ones where she's shown me the finished article.

She does like to get into the technical details as well so will look into Pigmentation of colours, oiling out etc. The beauty of these videos is that many have been done by the artists/instructors during lockdowns and you get to see how other parts of the world are dealing with it.

There was one from Singapore very early on in the pandemic when he was locked down in his high rise apartment so all of his drawings were of views from his high storey building.

She's been all around the world with these, from New Zealand to Canada to Finland etc. Keeps her out of mischief.

There were some travel gems in the Stories section on here, sad that this record of so many places visited has been lost and jumbled up, the photos no longer match the stories. I've always wanted to go to Chasncath's favourite French coastal site! 🍦🍦 smile

Although it won't happen for us, we have been engrossed watching Youtube videos on the TV. We are subscribed to three canal narrowboat Vbloggers, 'Cruising the Cut' 'Narrowboat Journeys' and 'Foxes Afloat'.

Using HD cameras they/we are travelling the length and breadth of the canal system and along the way have seen many canal side sites, of which we have booked two for later in the year.

'Narrowboat Journeys' Phil actually lives and travels with no permanent mooring, and his video films are lightly edit along with his own composed relaxing music (Kryfold Sky)

'Cruising the Cut' is more heavier edited and 'Foxes afloat' are permanent cruisers and heavily into commentary and laughs, also giving factual references to everything of interest in passing.

One of my sons was into free fall parachuting and bungi jumping until one day his mate's parachute didn't fully open and he landed heavilly injuring his back. He was lucky and got away with it but neither ever jumped again. If it hasn't got wings he stays on tera ferma.

I seem to be spending more time on YouTube at the moment. You soon learn the ones not to watch, especially political ones and those where people use YouTube as a platform to be rude about people!!!  Over the last year have been dipping into Dr John Campbell for information on COVID. Watched a few canal vlogs as mentioned up thread. Andrew Ditton has some very informative vlogs on the Scottish Islands. There are a lot of vlogs out there on our hobby but some are pretty boring in the way they are presented. Two people videoing themselves having a chat about what they have done rather than showing you where they have been is not usually very entertaining. Some of you might be interested in the videos by the Map Men where they explore topics like unfinished road and rail projects.

As for TV I enjoy detective stories and there have been a few interesting ones on recently. Currently watching The Bay. Did start to watch the new Marcella but we both thought it concentrated on the violence rather than the police work, a bit like a modern day Peaky Blinders so gave up on it after the first episode. The last two episodes of the French police drama Spiral are on this Saturday, looking forward to that.

    David

    Map Men very interesting👍

Early in the first lockdown, we watched many of Simon Reeves’ wonderful documentary series. Some were a very hard watch at times, and alongside the different cultures, exotic locations etc.... delved off the tourist trails and showed up the darker sides of some of the World’s countries. I know that I simply couldn’t face some of the reality that happens in such places, and they would never be a destination of choice for me, but others can and do enjoy them. His visit to Northern Ireland and Ireland was a real eyebrow raiser in parts. A place I would like to go if I thought my stomach would survive the ferry crossing. OH has been to Eire, loved it.

Watching this weeks episode the bungee jump 😱😱😱🙈

My legs were shaking and I couldnt bear to watch and I am sitting on the sofa 🤣🤣. I'm with cyberyacht all the way

Generally enjoying armchair travels by foot, currently Julia Bradbury Devon and Cornwall, train journeys, here and worldwide, Susan Calman secret Scotland and campervan travel loads recorded to watch to, walks by a Kent TV company too. Just about anything that makes me forgot I can only explore my back garden when it stops being a big and wherever I can reach under my own steam 😂

We got lured into TV watching last night. Browsing channels, found an old Wycliffe, so we decided to location spot on this. Then next up.....Vera, so we did the same. Lockdown is taking its toll, we are getting our “fix” via murder and mayhem at the moment!😂

We've been watching Simon Reeves for a couple of years or so now, as you say, they aren't the usual "sugary" travel documentaries; no, some of the countries featured wouldn't be my choice either and also I sometimes ask OH to fast forward certain things, but on the whole we both find his programmes very interesting.  He has had problems in his earlier life, and has worked at turning his life around, and I think he is genuinely concerned for people whose lives consist of just trying to survive day to day.  I know sometimes I've watched with tears in my eyes.

Currently there is a series on where he looks back on his travels, which we've been watching.
