Having taken to later holidays and finding the hot air outlet from the van next to useless, we are looking for a good low-wattage heater. Any recommendations?

Moderator Edit:

Sorry Geoff but this is a topic that's been done many times and is likely to cause untold problems with posters arguing quite heatedly about the rights and wrongs of heating awnings.

For this reason, your thread will be closely monitored and locked if that happens.

I would look at radiant halogen type heaters rather than a fan heater or oil filled radiator type.

A radiant heater is usually on a pivot and heats up you rather than the surrounding air. We got ours from our local dealer and has three heat settings up to 1200 W and in our experience far better than a 2 Kw fan heater and very effective. Ours has a safety feature that switches it off if it is tilts and falls over. I suppose a bit bulkier so bear that in mind.

It also has a lovely red glow!

prices range from about £20, just googled this one here

I have not used an awning for  years. Prior to that I used one for 7 years. The only time that it was heated in anyway was during our 15 night December chill out/Christmas evasion every year. I limited my heating use in the awning to Christmas Day and Boxing Day when, after lunch, I would treat myself to a large cigar and a Large drink. The fan heater would go on, 2KW, aimed directly to warm me up - not the awning. At most 4 kw used in our 15 night stay.
