JVB,- Do you agree that quick decisive actions could have saved many thousands of lives.
Can you explain to me why, when we are in our current "Lockdown" and asking the nation to "Stay at home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives" are we still allowing Garden centres, Places of Worship and even NT gardens ( not many people walk to one) to remain open?
Edit. JVB, --- if Boris had been in charge of the New Zealand government, do you really think his bumbling and indecision would have also resulted in them limiting their number of deaths to 25?

No, not in the removed post but there has been reference in many posts about a statement saying that UK gov had claimed to have done well. I I hoped you or anybody could say in relation to what aspect.
In elation to stopping the spread I don't think that UK has done well at all.
1 -
Perhaps but you replied to me and I haven't mentioned anything about UK v everyone else in a long time. My post was to LLM asking about his what would you do question to M

You have mentioned this land border thing a few times? What would you have wanted ? Close the borders?

Not quite correct if you're referring to my post. I didn't say the the "UK gov had claimed to have done well" (though I do believe they "think" they have ). I said "we have been told" meaning by a number of posters on here who appear to me to be slavishly endorsing the government's handling of the situation. (And they are, of course, perfectly entitled to that view, though, obviously it's not one that I share.)

Yes +1.
At the very least they will called to task at the ballot box?

Not a direct answer but my view is (and was) that when we were aware of the virus emanating from China we should have closed our borders to China, and progressively other countries as they acquired the virus other than for goods and freight.
Present English restrictions seem far more relaxed than here in Wales were travel has been reduced more and no none essential purchases in supermarkets and garden centres closed.

With the advantage of 20/20 hindsight I expect that I could find things that could have been done sooner and better, or not done at all. I can also imagine that other actions or inactions may have improved things or even made them worse. However, I'm not prepared to criticize because I, in common with the vast majority of the population, don't have access to all the information and knowledge available to the decision makers at any one time nor full knowledge of the sequence of events or of all the hurdles that have needed to be overcome to achieve anything.
1 -
But you still haven't answered what you personally would have done differently? Which is what you keep asking others?
2 -
Well you could make that arguement for just about every action that any government takes, so you seem to be suggesting that because we "don't have access to all the information" the government should be immune to any questioning or criticism.
But actually a lot of the information provided to the government by SAGE surely has been made public so it seems, to me, entirely legitimate to criticise actions they have or have not taken based on that advice.
Just my opinion, though.

I think that we are all allowed to criticise the actions of our elected officials. After all we do every election even though we don't have access to all the information and knowledge available to the decision makers at any one time nor full knowledge of the sequence of events or of all the hurdles that have needed to be overcome.
And to do so without knowing how to fix or makes things better.
Again my opinion.

Quite right, and if anyone should be criticised it should be all those that have knowingly and blatantly broken the rules and guidelines.
I wonder what the numbers would look like if everyone had complied?

But you can learn from the past Husky and that way avoid making similar mistakes in the future. That is why, in a democracy, it is a good thing that one is allowed to question/criticise the actions that have been taken.
It is a poor reflection on things that questioning/criticising should be confused with "moaning".

Well said and the way to change, or influence, the future is to follow the rules.👍🏻
