‘So, here we go again. I’m on your tv telling you things are going to be s**t for a while. And yes that’s what I’m doing. I’m stopping you from going out, from seeing your friends and loved ones. You think that makes me a bad person. But you know what; this job isn’t easy. All I’m doing it trying to please you lot and stop you all dying at the same time. I give you rules, you break them. I ease things a bit, you take the piss. You are all a bunch of ungrateful selfish human beings and I’m now at the point where I’m only inflicting more rules because you idiots are putting ridiculous pressure on the NHS, by ignoring the things I have asked you nicely to do. You all think you are a scientist, doctors, experts. You aren’t. Neither am I. But I am taking advice from the best in this country and doing my best to please you all. True, good post👍🏻, but. . .The scientists & professional healthcare advisers saw this coming weeks ago-he ignored their advice to go big & go hard. The reason lockdown #1 worked so well is because it was all encompassing, this one is wishy-washy & way too late😢

Oe thing that I did not understand in yesterdays BBC news was the headline Covid: 'Loads of people without masks' in supermarkets.
This is not something that I have seen anywhere since masks were mandated. Any others found the same as the headline?

But then the vast majority of people are sensible and abide by the sprit of the rules, a stupid minority want to push things to the limit to see what they can get away with.
I for one dont need a number laid down in law to understand the meaning of stay local. The furthest i've gone from home since this latest national lockdown is about 4 miles.

The supermarkets have until recently viewed it as optional ET. I asked a security guard at Asda if he stopped the maskless-no was his reply, he mentioned it to them but was told not to accost anyone as they don’t want problems in the foyer🤷🏻♂️, it makes sense I think.

The same mileage for me and just for shopping. Yesterday was different as I drove 40 miles each way (into England) to care for my grandsons for, probably, half an hour and then drove a 5 mile circular trip from the local infirmary via a chip shop to a local flash to at and watch the ducks and geese.
Common sense obviously varies as we have seen so many times. Far better that there is a reasoned definition. During a previous lockdown in Wales 5 mile radius was stated. Discretion was also given for those living in the sticks to do shopping.

I have only seen the odd person not waring a mask since the rule was introduced.
In the last hour i have been to Boots for the Flu vaccine and there was a woman at the pharmacy counter without a mask but she was waring a lanyard with a notice saying she was medically exempt and hearing her breathing i can understand why. I just stayed about 4m away for both our protection.

I see that Matt Hancock has said that we can make the present levels the peak of the epidemic. Not for hospitalisations we cannot. The seeds are already sown for an increase in hospital beds needed over the next 2 weeks as those infected and requiring hospitalisation lag about 13 days after diagnosis if they require treatment

☹️😡 Just reading background information about the private company that is providing the free meals to children in poverty, after Marcus Rashford’s campaign. It doesn’t make good reading. It does beg the question of just how low this country can get in terms of misuse of public funds, mismanagement of contracting, ensuring standards are met. Very very sad.
I looked at a couple of photos of what was in two different parcels. One, with some basic cooking skills would have made a child five days worth of tasty, variety and filling but healthy meals. The other photo, just beggared belief honestly. Hard to think of a single meal beyond a jacket potato with a square of processed cheese. Disgraceful really.

You were in our neck of the woods then ET. Car park at the Flash can get busy. We park behind the hotel (near Morrison’s) and walk on the path under the by-pass - comes out by the side of the golf course. It’s much quieter there so maybe useful to you on your next visit.

Hope everyone is managing with shopping OK during this latest lockdown. We've done our very first Asda home delivery - ever, in order to avoid the shops. It all seemed to go well, so I've booked another slot for next week and one for the week after. I wonder if Covid will change some of our habits permanently?

Probably in the short term. We have had home deliveries from Waitrose since the end of March last year and I imagine we will continue for some time yet. For us going shopping every week was quite a social thing as we would see friends, ex colleagues and even neighbours as we did our shopping so we have missed that. It was also a chance to have a coffee and cake before starting our shopping so I imagine we will eventually go back to that at some point. However I think we will probably continue with the odd delivery here and there as we have got so used to it.

DSB, you have done well to get a delivery slot!
Our daughter is usually an Aldi shopper, she went to click and collect at Asda for a while, but then back to shopping at Aldi in person as there were quite a few Asda products they did not like.
However, since December, she is back with Asda as her Aldi was getting too busy, but apparently she cannot, and never could, get a delivery slot, only click and collect..
Quite possibly she is not organised enough, but being 8 months pregnant, having an almost 3 year old to look after, organising some house renovations, and holding down a full time job meantime, it is not so easy to be organised!

Yes disgraceful, but the private company provided exactly what is laid out in the Department for Education guidelines when it comes to providing these meals, well at least that was the paper Sir K. was banding about at PMQ's
There was a photograph in the news showing what a charity could provide for the same money and it was far superior, however, all these charities have contracts with all the major supermarkets to take all the stuff that is close to sell by date or best before date etc that they would throw in the bin, and this is tons of stuff.
Thankfully at PMQ's Boris was very upset at what had been provided and thanked Marus R, for bringing this to his attention, you cant really blame Boris he hoped his minister for education was overseeing this, which he probably was, but dear Gavin is well behind the curve and probably brought up with a siliver spoon in his mouth and does not know what goes into making 7 meals. He should be walking the plank

Thanks Ann. I have walked that section along the canal before and it has been quiet. We chose the area by the golf course as it seemed a better place to see the ducks, geese, etc whilst we had our fish and chips (just a fishcake for me). There was a lot of cars in the car park we used but very few people in evidence.

Don't know if you watched the reporter afterwards Rufs, but he said Starmer was quoting selectively from the DoE guidelines he was brandishing and the guide included more items.
Seems Starmer forgot to mention that to score a cheap point.
Despite that the amount of food in the photograph was still disgraceful for 5 nutritious lunches.
