Writer David Cornwell, who wrote as " John Le Carre "  has died aged 89.

Another Lost to this awful year, but I'm led to believe it wasn't C19 related, but  that might be just another of his red herrings  !

    Never read any of his books, but they spawned some wonderful film and TV adaptations. RIP indeed.

    One of my favourite authors. The skill and knowledge he used in writing his Cold War "Smiley" books was unparalleled. And his later, more political works were both perceptive and entertaining.  I wonder if there are any unfinished works still in the pipeline? He will be sadly missed.

    It's strange I've had several of his books over the years but never got into them whilst enjoying the films. Reading about his very unusual upbringing, it's hard to work out where fiction starts and ends but it must have come out in the books and they certainly were popular.

    Yes certainly an unconventional upbringing. I love his quote

    “truth is what you can get away with” 

    Seems prophetic given the times we live in.
