My caravan battery does not charge when on hook up but the on board charger unit supplies 12v to the caravan but the battery does not . The van fuse is ok and battery reads 12.5v and terminals are tight
any suggestions please

It would help to know the make, model and age of your van. If you have a normal charger you would expect it to produce around 13.7 volts both to the battery and to the 12 volt system when on EHU. The charger also acts as the van 12 volt system. If you disconnect the hook-up then you will get just the battery voltage of max. 12.7 volts dropping to around 12.3 volts on low state of charge.
Normally the battery is always connected and being charged and if the charger fails you would also have no “12 volts ” via the mains and would simply get a slowly decreasing battery voltage. If you disconnect the battery and still get 12 volts and if the battery is not being charged in the van when connected then it suggests that the connection between charger and battery is faulty, either a loose wire or fuse.
