If anything i was offering advise and from someone who lived full time for eleven years and with no house to fall back on so i know the pit falls from experience.

They have just published to the world that they are living away from their country of residence for more then the prescribed days,

    So

    Motor insurance and MOT invalid

    Health insurance invalid if any

    NHS card invalid

EHIC invalid although that one wont matter shortly

There are a few more minor issues like banking without residence were the bank can close your account

It is a great life choice but don't go shouting from the roof tops just keep it to yourself because people in suits don't like it.

They've also said they are not always together, maybe one of them returns home, who knows, this is journalistic licence and doesn't need to be taken too seriously. They have been sensible keeping a UK property.

I too pondered these points when I read the article on the BBC site prior to this thread starting.

I'm really pleased for them and hopefully these items were considered  and addressed before they set off? I know I wouldn't have embarked on something like this without putting things in place. But each to their own.

Life is for living and nothing brings that home like the current pandemic 😀

I'm interested to know why you have written some of those things.

Insurance.  I assume you mean their vehicle (camper) insurance.  Mine cover us for 12 months abroad if that is what we choose.  We just have to have a UK address.

MOT.  An MOT is normally for 12 months and is valid wherever you are.

UK (NHS) health cover is more tricky but it is relatively easy to get around the rules.  Many full timers do.

Not sure what you mean about NHS card invalid?

    EHIC (RIP) laughing.

Banking is fine as long as you maintain a UK address.

I say good luck to them.  I wish I had done much the same at their age.

As I have said before I think too many are looking at the detail too much. Whatever they do or how they do it is most unlikely to impact on me directly so I make the assumption they have worked these things out for themselves. Even if they have not it doesn't make a difference to me. As with all these stories we probably don't know the half of it. I just wish them well and I am sure they will resume a "normal lifestyle" when they get fed up with it.

1st January 2021 is not far away. I hope all the wannabe full timers understand the intricate details of long stay Schengen area visas better than I do.

Does it not depend on deal or no deal?

It's a good job our ancestors didn't worry about every detail before they went exploring 🙂.

    Afraid not.

Canada has a trade deal with the EU - which the UK would like to copy - but Canadians visiting the EU have a 90 day limit unless they can get a long stay visa.

The UK voted to end free  movement,  and as a result full time motorhoming in Europe will be a thing of the past.

True, if they did more of them would’ve made it back home😂

The deal is not yet done and whilst the Canadian deal was muted as a model I think it unlikely that any deal we make (if any) will be entirely identical.  I'm content to wait and see.  In any event I suspect that the number of Canadians bringing MH's to Europe is relatively few laughing.

No insurance invalidates your MOT and  visa versa

I was trying to point the point out some of the pit falls we faced in the eleven years we full timed and always found it better to keep mum i will now but out of this thread.

I’m puzzled by that Phil. To the best of my knowledge, it's not essential to have insurance to pass an MOT so I cannot see that the absence of insurance would invalidate an MOT.

The reverse, however, is certainly likely to be true.

You are 50% correct.  Not having a valid MOT does invalidate your insurance.  Quite logical really as you have no record of the vehicle being road worthy at least once in a 12 month period.  Of course it only applies to vehicles that are required to have an MOT.  Not having insurance does not invalidate your MOT.  Not having a valid MOT is illegal under Section 47 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and you run the risk of facing a £1,000 fine and a charge of six to eight penalty points on your licence by driving without one.

There are certainly challenges to be overcome when full timing but you clearly overcame them if you did it for 11 years.

Irrelevant, David. One can drive illegally or transport the vehicle on a trailer. Neither will prevent the examiner carrying out the MOT and issuing a pass if warranted. The MOT examiner is not there to police the insurance laws.

That’s definitely correct but is totally irrelevant in terms of the hypothesis of invalidating an MOT. I think you're branching off into a side street here.😧

As in most things there are exceptions.  You must be driving directly to a pre booked MOT test and your cover will remain valid.

I’m one of the likers, the reason being it is a fact in Law. Folk get enough fake news & anyone who gives out facts in Law deserve to be supported. Btw- you don’t need to tug a caravan around Europe to research British Law👍🏻.

Not rude at all David, but in any case do any of us, including yourself know anything about this sort of lifestyle?

We can all like posts without experiences (I think you once wrote that yourself about club sites) and indeed aspire to such a lifestyle without that experience?

    I admire them personally.

I doubt it.  The vast majority of people that full time are well aware of what needs to be done and plan their returns to the UK to get all the necessary things done prior to them expiring.
